    Personal opinion, overblown by owners. I'm at 94K, and I drive this truck all over the country. Two thoughts on the subject, one, the MDS lifters naturally have this tick due to oil pressure at idle. Lots of people complain about the Hemi tick, and all the videos are in their driveway. Second, Ram's are cheaper to own, and their owners tend to be cheap. Just today, a guy on Facebook was talking about how he has 36k and thinks he needs to replace the lifters. A few details he mentions, he runs 87 instead of the recommended 89 and doesn't use the correct oil. I see this a bunch. Then again, I suspect some people do have issues. But I think a lot of the hemi tick stuff is overblown by people who don't know how MDS lifters work. Or are abusing the truck and haul it into the dealer and then bitch online. Lots of high milage guys in our group with no issues.

    @@OffroadTreks Im currently at 37,000 miles on my '17 6.4 and it's developed a cold start knock/slap- lasts around 3min. Thought it was snapped manifold bolts but they're all are snug. Always serviced my truck with the recommended PUP 0w40 and wix filters. Recently switched to Redline with the hopes of quieting it down, no luck after 900 miles. Frustrating... Anyways, thanks for the reply. Good to know the Ram has been treating you right.

    92000 miles on my 2016 and i just tore off my right head because of a lifter that was collapsed. I was on the interstate passing a big truck while going up a long hill, revving North of 6 thousand, while pulling a 4,000 lb dump trailer loaded with an 8300 lb excavator when i noticed a loss in power. Pulled over when it was safe to do so and had a friend help me get it pulled back to my shop. I found that the roller didn't fail, as I'd expected to find, but it was just collapsed, causing the misfire. Found 2 push tubes with the ends worn and their mating rocker arm sockets were also galled. So I bought the one lifter, 2 push tubes (all the tubes and rockers on the left side were fine ), the assembly with the intake rockers, and a head gasket from Ram parts. Prolly $300 or less, can't remember exact cost, but tech said that i could reuse the "torque to yield" head bolts, and so viola, it's back running great . I think the lifter was due to the fact that i am TERRIBLE about going over on my oil changes and also I was running regular old 10w40. ByGod i won't be doing that again. From now on I will run 0w40 synthetic and do oil change every 3k.

I've done most of the trails in Moab in our Power Wagon stock. Hell's Revenge, Fins & Things, Top of the World, Elephant Hill, Poison Spider Mesa, and others.

    Do stock truck do the same hard trails as non-stock ones?

  • @OffroadTreks

    @OffroadTreks

    3 жыл бұрын

    Most of them yes. Usually with slower progression and more spotting. We had put trucks on 33's up Moab Rim before, but they were the slowest of the bunch and required the MOST spotting to keep rocker panels safe. So doable, yes. But for a group, we needed to limit some trails to certain tire sizes, just to keep the group moving at a steady pace.

    No, and most agree we probably never will....However, minus the articulink and electronic disconnecting swaybar, you can take a regular 2500/3500 and put an AEV DualSport suspension (Prospector Package) on, and you will have a diesel version that is VERY close to a PW clone...Many have done this.

Forget price, the Power Wagon is an off roader that just happens to also be street legal....But I understand your question.

    It's all about adventure and exploring but doing it with the PowerWagon takes it to another level of confidence and fun because with it's inherent capabilities you can load up the family, hitch up the camper, or just carry the roof top tent, and go explore places inaccessible by most "Griswold" family truckster vehicles. And if you or someone else happens to get in trouble, the winch can usually provide ability for self rescue. Crawling around at Moab is one of the coolest things you may ever do. Spectacular views and otherworldly scenery to check out! 😃
