One correction.Many people wanted to get french nationality. But kevalsingh indian governor at pondy stopped the process. Because he didn't want to see more than 50% of population became french citizens. My arts collège professors regretted it.

Every year more than 2 Lakh Indians surrender their Indian citizenship, to take citizenship in US, UK, Australia, Canada, German etc. However, our Govt gives Overseas Indian card to them, so that they can come to India, stay and work, without Indian Visa. If anyone goes to France fr higher studies , staying more than 2 yrs, born AT Pondichery, they Can apply fr nationality. If anyone stays more than 5 yrs they Can get nationality by naturalisation. If anyone marries french ,get nationalité. Even french marries Indian origin nationality people,they Can get OCI. With OCI card,they get all rights like indian,except voting and buying estates. They Can get aadhar, if they have income in india, they Can get Pan.if Pondichery origin marries anyone from union territory,they Can get nationality

No dual citizenship available in India. Govt. does not permit. OCI given by Modi and not Vajpai. Previously only PIO was available.

Questions were not asked correctly. Interviewer should have done some homework work. When someone claims he/she is french citizen but never been to France, the immediate question should have been ,,what kind of Indian visa do you have. Then follow up question should have been ...why would you settle down in India with a non citizenship visa. Are you not losing voting rights. Then follow up on OCI topic. Then you must ask why would your sons and daughters work in France ? Is it superior to what they would have got here in India? Someone who has worked 52 years in France and likes France....what he is doing in India when his children are abroad?😂 doesn't make any sense. Some senior citizens came up with மன வாசனை 😮 quite a mix up. Why would someone twist their names and lose identity...still.and claim மன் வாசனை . भयंकर குழப்பம் 😢

Because they came as refugees, and the hoary history of that community maked Indian government more suspicious about their permanent staying in India. It's also counterproductive, Sri Lankan Tamils claims a pure and very rooted origin in the Ceylon Island. Many wants to return to their homeland (we forget often that Ceylon had from long ago a living standard far superior to the Indian one), but the current economical crisis refrain them to do so, and many more are leaving the island due to that. Bringing to them an Indian citizenship or Indian origin special treatment is to admit that they are far-ago foreigners to their homeland and justify xenophobic political parties of Sri Lanka. And it's someway disrespecting Indian citizenship itself. We forget often that many Indian Tamils lived for generations in Ceylon (estates people as well as non-estates people), and like in Burma, they had to leave everything suddenly as they were labelled as outsiders and haven't been accorded the Ceylonese citizenship or any facilitating arrangement. Some Sri Lankan Tamil politicians tried to do something in favour of Indian ones, but as well, many (if not a tiny majority) didn't and were silently supportive of these moves. We don't speak much about how many Ceylon's rappatriates have been ignored and didn't receive kind of help.

India doesn't attribute dual citizenship. French government allows it, and many emigrant communities in France hold dual citizenship. But if you know about France and its internal news and issues, this is someway positive to not hold dual citizenship. And for those venturing P'Cherry in search of red passport bride. The female population in the wedding age from that category has declined a lot for decades. Most "Franco-Pondicherians" are settled in France, and the practice of arranged or community mariage (that also can be an issue if you have community criteria, be it in France or at Pondy) among them have drastically reduced. Their women tend to spouse local French citizens or among the Franco-Pondicherian community already there. A lot of badly turned "paper weddings" destructed the possibilities of these "arrangements" beyond an already unpopularity. France government is also more reluctant to these weddings, well-known about these practices. For example, they implemented more restrictive conditions for newcomers who came through a marriage.
