Putting your grader into "Highbank" mode tutorial

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome back to the channel everyone. Real quick shout out to all the new subscribers in the last month. In this one I go through the steps that I use to get the blade on a motorgrader into what we call highbank mode. There are definitely other ways to do it or tweak it, but this is what work best for me. I visit lots of operators that don't know how to do this, all it takes it a little bit of practice. Hope this helps some of you out there. If you have ideas for other tutorial videos leave me a comment below and ill do my best to make one. Thanks for watching.

I had no idea there was so much engineering built into these. I reckon this is a more complicated machine than they sometimes appear to those not in the industry. Thank you Nathan.

After learning how to do it a few years ago, I do it all the time now for swapping cutting edges on my blade, it's funny to see some peoples reactions to the blade being swung out that way but then they're probably surprised to see me working 🤣🤣🤣

Hey great video. I’ve been running a grader for about 10 years now and I’m currently running a 14m. One of the videos I have never actually seen before or hear many people talk about is the names of the actual moving parts of the whole grader. That would be a sweet video. Even though here’s a lot of different names people have for the same parts. Thanks from Squamish BC

Something that I’ve wondered and haven’t been able to get a definitive answer with logical reasons are which way to have the tires tilted and how that helps. Good job with this video. Clear explanations with multiple angles definitely helps me understand .

Hey thanks watching and for the kind words, I try to do my best with the tutorial videos I make. You typically want to lean your wheels in the same direction that material is coming off the moldboard. This will help counteract the side draft the machine has when making hard cuts. Hope that clears it up a bit for you.

  • @ShannonFreng

  • @ironman3406

@@ShannonFreng the blade is running at an angle, if you start cutting too heavy it can take weight off the front axle and skate the front axle in the same direction the blade is angled (side draft ) so the front end is always trying to fight that force, leaning the wheels helps.

Hello there!! Thanks so much for the kind thoughts I really appreciate that, it helps me know that I’m not waiting my time. I try and do videos as time permits as I am a full time trainer who is always on the road, the challenge in our yard is demonstrating any kind of earthmoving tasks because they won’t let us excavate on the property. But I have had that request many times so if and when I have the opportunity I will make it. Thanks for watching and I am glad you found this one useful.

My best job ever doing road work for my father-in-law the old gallions took a while to get up in that position we two graders that way you could pull down the back slope then the second grader could windrow it for the loader

Thanks - Very detailed and every operator should be able to follow and execute. I learned how to get blade into banking position by trail and error. Watching the older operator doing it for several years. Off topic - how often would you lube the various parts of the circle and mold board slide ? Thanks again for very informative operating techniques of the Cat graders !

Hello there thanks for watching. I typically go with a weekly service when a grader is doing municipal type work, that includes greasing all grease fittings, spraying dry granites spray on the mole board slide, in between the circle and the drawbar, on the circle gear and circle pinion gear, and on the inside of the circle where the circle turns inside of the drawbar. I prefer the dry graphite for this because dirt and dust won’t stick to it creating and abrasive grease mix.

No that’s just one of many reasons. You can easily change blades this way so you’re not lying in the dirt. But more importantly you can blade steep backslopes, moving the blade out can provide lots of flexibility in how you can blade with the machine depending on the job at hand.
