Ooh them pickles. 👀👀👀 LOVE me some dill pickles. ❤
Mighty fine looking corn but sounds like it's time for fresh pork
It's good to see Fred G, I mean Michelle, feelin mo betta. Sorry, gal, I couldn't resist :)
Exciting Summer. Never grown corn. A farmer here sells by the side of the road corn by truckfulls. When we see him, we always buy. You two make a great team.
I like some corn and bacon, the pigs, deer and squirels gotta get fat for freezer camp too, lol. good to see Moma out there with ya enjoying harvest. Best way is the way you like to do it.let em cringe, lts still cleaner than store corn, lol. Tis very wise to rely on the shelf more than the freezer.
Purdy corn. Filled out good.
Beautiful ears of corn. Ain’t God good to provide such a bountiful harvest! I planted peaches & cream corn for the first time this year. Excitedly awaiting my harvest!!
Don't ya know, of course the day before you pick that corn them pigs getting to it. Just watching y'all and all that corn made me hungry, had to make some fish an butterbeans 😊. So glad Michelle's feeling better, she's working hard!!
I believe you got Michelle up a little early. She does not look to happy or u make her mad. 😂. Take care. 🙏. Charlie.
Can't beat sweet corn
You're getting some good use out of your covered back porch. I need to build myself one also.
Good Looking Corn Sir, but if I may offer some advice - set you a fan blowing at you, and flys will disappear. Works every time, Y’all have a wonderful Blessed Evening Sir
A lot of work but good eating in the future. Roscoe was ready to do some riding. I'm glad you are enjoying that cleaver knife.

It works good
Garden looks good 💯
Yep, a garden will keep you busy, but it sure is good.
I remember one time… my cousin and I decided we were going to “surprise” my grandmother by picking corn. Well, we were small kids, about 8-10yr old, and we couldn’t reach the corn very good. Corn back then seem to grow 10-12’ tall- at least! Anyhow, we decided being we couldn’t reach the top that we would just knock it down. Needless to say, when we were done- we had laid down about an acre and a half of healthy corn. Talk about a whoopin’! Whew!!

I bet you couldn’t sit for a week
Glad you folks have some good stuff for the winter. You know when I was home the folks canned everything from carrots to poke greens and everything in between. The pantry sat in the corner of the kitchen and helped hold up the roof. You could always tell the time of the year and how low we were on food stuff by the sag in the roof line.
So happy for you all on your gatherings..praying for you and your beautiful wife, glad another prayer was answered...
Hey Justin! Corn fresh from the garden is one of Life's greatest blessings! It's always tasty... either on the cob... or dished up in Winter! With a dab of butter & a touch of salt... it just doesn't get any better! (Well... MAYBE it would go better with some sliced ham!) Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ball Corp up in Muncie is just up the road from me. Enjoy!
Always heard for every silk string there is a kernel of corn 🌽
As a boy, my grandparents had a small farm up on the mountain. They raised hogs, chickens, some livestock, and farmed vegetable crops. Corn was the major crop each year. I can remember the folks gathering everybody together a couple of times each summer to harvest and can the corn. My grandpaw always made sure that the corn was canned the same day that it was harvested. The ladies would have several large pots going to blanch the corn for just a few minutes over the fire. Then they would fill cases of sterilized quart mason jars with the corn kernels. Covering the corn in each jar with super hot boiling water. Then they would add the lids and lid bands to each jar. Listen for that sound of the lid popping as the jars cooled. Some of the corn was creamed and then canned in mason jars. They also made corn chow chow with sweet and hot peppers, a few onions added. Man that was good stuff in some pinto beans! Thanks for taking us along on the Spirit of the Outdoors.

No… I don’t think so… as I remember it, they blanched the corn, put it into scalding hot jars, added boiling water, tapped the air out, sealed the jars and let them cool. Now I could be wrong, it’s been a long time ago.

Justin… in follow up I spoke with a cousin who is a little older than me about the corn harvest days when we were growing up. I asked her if the ladies were pressure canning the jars of corn. She told me they were doing it the old timey way and that did it have a pressure cooker. She confirmed that they cut the corn kernels off the cob, blanched the corn first and few minutes in hot water, added the warm corn to the mason jars, she said they left about an inch at the top of the jar so the corn didn’t touch the lids, they added some boiling water to the jars, shook them to get the air bubbles out, added the boiled lids and rings, tightened the rings down then poured boiling hot water over all the jars and boiled for about 10 minutes. Set the jars out to cool and listen for the lids tp pop. I’m sure this is not the proper FDA Approved method. This was back in the early 1960s, so I’m sure a lot has changed in terms of food safety. I’d do a little research before I tried to can anything today. Thanks again for the information. - Tennessee Smoky

@tennesseesmoky9012 my very first memory is sitting in my grandparents’ basement while the ladies cleaned, blanched, cut, and prepped corn for the freezer. Going off who was there and very specific details I remember, my mom figured it was about 4 months before my second birthday. Isn’t it crazy the things we remember so vividly?!
thats the thing about growin yer own garden it never comes out lookin like store bought ive seen folks in some gardening groups ask if their squash is edible cuz its got bumps on it lol i grew that peaches n cream corn this year n all my ears came out small so they all lil nibblers son thats the sign of a good cook she dont know how long to cook fer just keep an eye on it n stir it i got an all american canner n use mine on a turkey cooker n theyll sure get up to temp quick on there
You were talking about your TP and it got me thinking about when my husband Willie and I first came out here in the property in Ohio. Bought a TeePee from bend, Oregon And we lived in it for a year. The thing about lacing up the holes and putting the flap together up up the front of it. We use piston rods and they worked really well. When you use sticks they have a tendency to break and bend when they get wet. But those piston rods worked really well. We had a liner for it the whole 9 yd. It was based on the design that was used in the movie "Dances with Wolves," starring "Kevin Costner". We had so much fun.

I bet that was an interesting time of life.
We use a electric knife works good
I was told that if you put human hair around your garden the pigs will stay away the other thing was perfume or deodorant
I seen a fellor do a review on a vacum sealer for jars .It was a small handheld , that capped down over the jar .He actually used a clean used seal with a jar . It sealed up with vacuum using a used seal . Not sure what all person can can with it without cooking/ pressure canning. Looked like good option for some things.?
Good video Ya'll. Wondering did Ya'll hand pollinate your ears? I planted peaches n cream and Ambrosia 5 rows ea @ 25 long , . Thanks for the vids.

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors I dint either plants are over 9ft tall lots of ears probably another week , I used urea fertilizer great stuff.
PLEASE ONLY SLIGHTLY TIGHTEN THE JAR LIDS WHEN CANNING. THE PRESSURE HAS TO ESCAPE SO THAT IT IS SAFE TO EAT. YOU ARE TIGHTENING THE LIDS WAY TOO TIGHT. THAT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF PRESSURE CANNING. I JUST WANT YOUR FOOD TO BE SAFE TO EAT.
