The sofa is great !! I would suggest moving against the wall and away from the windows. Mount the tv on the wall opposite from the couch. Place the lamp in the corner where the tree was. Also pull the rug all the way out so you walk onto it when walking. Into the room. Maybe if you move the couch the tree can go in front of the window where Anne appeared (this way you see it from the other room and first thing walking in). I wish I lived up there just to come and help you do all the things. You are doing great, stay with it, YOU GOT THIS!!!!

  • @ishefriendly

Congrats on the sofa! You might consider moving the couch against the larger wall and place the ottoman on the side closest to the window - otherwise, your back will be to the windows and the light will cast reflections on the television when you mount it. Just a suggestion. You do you. Rooting you on! The place is really coming together. (You can do it!)

Small tip for the cushions, instead of using Velcro you can use rug grippers to help keep them in place! Cheaper alternative and you can cut it to fit the cushions underneath. :) I can’t wait to see the rest of your apartment together. Just like you accomplished the marathon, imagine how it’s going to feel when your place comes together. The journey to get there isn’t always fun but think back to all of the things you’ve been through in life. You’re capable of so much and it’s all going to work out. 😊 I need to tell myself that as someone else who struggles with anxiety. 🙃 Thanks for posting! 🎉❤

As one single female to another, I know how tough it can sometimes feel to do all your DIY and furniture build solo. I love living alone but, at times, I'd be grappling with some tough heavy duty task or similar and just break down. For real. Tears and everything. Crying is cathartic, we sometimes need a good cry! Especially in these dark winter months! Well done for doing all that yourself Chelsea. You did super good. It looks really cosy and warm now. Lovely little space to hibernate and chill. I'm sitting here on my sofa in the UK this evening, with a little fold up table I have for meals and laptop time. Whilst you have your desk. It might be an idea to also have a little fold up table you can store down the side of the sofa, so you have a bit more choice on where you edit and work? Stay safe and I hope you get a good nights sleep if its been evading you a bit this week. Sending good vibes to you from across the pond :) xx

I can’t imagine not wanting to get too settled in a house. I’ve lived in my house for 18 years now! Having a cozy home is incredibly important to me. I live in a country that has a special word for it, “gezellig”. It can come from how things are decorated, but also good times spent with friends and family. For me cozy is different from my upstairs to my downstairs. My upstairs is light and airy, pastel-ish cozy. And my downstairs feels cozy because my couch is huge and chocolate brown, I’ve enjoyed numerous cozy naps with my cats throughout the years. And I was about to comment that I think your cushion is hiding underneath the ottoman, it looked a bit like it at some point.

Loll ... a good cry and a good nap are sometimes exactly what we need. 🥰 LOVING the lamp and the ‘living room vibes". What if you just take one section off of the Christmas tree (at least for this year)? It will make it smaller and easier to manage. Or if you’re still in your return window, return it and get a small, decorative tabletop potted style tree. Target and other stores have them on sale right now. Anyways, you’re doing great Chels!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽

I just got the same couch (dif color) and I had the same issues putting it together. The company makes it look SO simple. I hurt my hand doing this, also used my feet, and also cried and said “WHY CANT ANYTHING EVER BE SIMPLE?” You are not alone. The couch is amazing (also my first big girl couch), but was so frustrating to put together. It’s also bigger than it seems and takes up more space than my brain had imagined, even though I measured. It will feel good when everything is as you want it. For now, PAT ON THE BACK for all the things! 😊🙃💪🏻😤👍🏻

@@ChelseaCallahan I’ve tried to reply twice now but it keeps disappearing? Anyway, thanks…it’s okay-we survived! I actually used the Albany Park assembly video (I will link it here, but maybe that’s why my comments keep disappearing?). They make it look way too simple, but it’s somewhat helpful. I’m trying to remember the trauma from that day, but I think I had to flip each half of the couch on its back so that I could push the arms down hard enough for the brackets to align? Although, I think that’s also where I hurt my hand, so be careful if you try! I know at some point I literally had to stand on an arm or back piece to get it to slide into the bracket all the way. 😅 Good luck, and I hope you’re enjoying the cozy couch vibes by now or very soon!

You’re doing great with your new place! It’s smart to live in a space for even a little while, to understand how you’ll actually use it (like your coffee station in the kitchen)! Also going room by room is . I totally get attachments to furniture bc they speak to moments in our lives, right? We still talk about “bluey” 7+ yrs after leaving her behind in a move. The new living space is gonna be awesome! If I may suggest, maybe the desk goes into the room without windows? It is super nice to have natural light when working from home, but for video editing maybe lean into the cozy, darker space? Bookshelf, music, video stuff.

I think you should put the tv on the wall by the door on the left, swing the couch around to the wall you had it on but move it into the middle and put your desk by the window. Add a couple of side table next to the couch and it will look really nice.

Chelsea before you mount the TV I have an a idea for how to lay out your living room. I specialize in functional design incorporating elements of feng shui. I know you know your space better than I do, these are just suggestions all for the benefit you you living in your dream space ✨ For orientation purposes, I’ll map it out as if you’re standing in the doorway of your living room looking at the windows. I would suggest putting your couch on the far left wall, nestled in the corner closest to the kitchen. Next to the couch on the left wall next to the window, place your bookshelf and lamp if it will fit, to create a cozy book nook corner. In between the windows, place your desk. This will help avoid glare from the windows on your screen, give you a burst of vitamin D as you work, and give you a lovely view of Anne Hathaway! ❤ on the right wall, next to the window this is your “money corner” a perfect place to pop your tree, out of the way but still in view from other rooms as you walk around your apartment. On the right wall, mount your TV. It’s slim so you can still walk past it well, watch TV from your desk as you work, and will eliminate glare having it on a wall not across from the windows. Keep the orientation of your rug how it is, but pull it into the room as much as you can. I drew out the layout but alas I cannot include a picture in the comments :/ and this is all an assumption that it will fit in the space as I did not draw it to scale without your measurements (but if you wanted to send them to me I would love to draw it out to scale 👀) In your kitchen, I would put your dishes above the sink, as you won’t access them as often as you would your food items as you’re cooking and it may make them easier to put away with your new dish rack where it is. Or maybe can you turn your dish rack sideways and put it on the right side of the sink? Would it fit there? With your pantry above the coffee pot, you can have a dedicated tea and hot coco shelf AND I would even keep your mugs above the coffee pot. Yes they wouldn’t be with your other dishes but whatever who cares it’s about functionality. Love the use of the spices in the island. I would put things you don’t access as often in the most bottom drawer. I hope this gives you an idea about how to be as cozy and functional as possible. You deserve it after months of chaos and I am so excited for peace to come your way soon!

I cannot even count the amount of furniture pieces I have put together by myself (instructions always have "two people required" which is tough when you are single and fiercely independent) and has absolute meltdowns, crying sessions, or sometimes completely focassia'ed it up. I currently have my WFH desk with the hole for all the cables at the front of the desk. Which does not work. And I just cover it with my keyboard and attempt to forget it. And also cannot "hide" any cables because I put the top on wrong 🤦🏼‍♀️ But I also look around my apartment, at ALL the furniture I have put together, warts and all, and even all the furniture I have since thrown out or recycled, and I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF. You should be too. YOU, alone, are doing this. How INCREDIBLE! You got this - and when you don't, your "virtual family" have got you! x

What makes a place feel like home for me: the colours on the wall, a rug, pretty curtains (!!), and some personal decor that makes me so happy to look at. I think those are the most important, as well as all your stuff having its own place, makes you feel like you’re home instead of on vacation with a restless feeling EDIT: ohhh and plants!! For sure, they make a space feel alive

The couch is brilliant! The beauty of your apartment Chelsea is that you can do whatever you want with it and make decisions as and when you want to. Sometimes you need to live in a space a little bit before you make choices. Sometimes you could even move furniture around according to the season. So in the summer move the couch away from the aircon and put it on the wall as you come in the living room on the right side. It is up to you. Take your time with it all - don’t stress! ❤

Girl!!! Firstly! You’re doing this all on your own. So honestly a huge applause to you. You’re reminding me of when I moved out on my own 😅 I also lived in an old (charming 😉) staired apartment. Just a little advice I thought might help. Feel free to ignore but you should put your couch along the longest wall and centre it and have the ottoman on the window side. I feel like it’d be so much more convenient for you to just walk through the door and jump on the couch that way. Also feel like your couch is a little tall and is blocking the window the way it is now. Also the tv on the wall with the door would mean the walk way from the door to the end of the door is clear and light and air can still flow. Keep the lamp exactly where it is and get a little table for the other side. Also put a decent sized mirror on the opposite side to the window to reflect light. Again feel free to ignore, that’s just what I’d do but I really think it’d give you the ultimate cozies 🧦☕️✨ Also loving your videos, keep them coming ❤❤

Chelsea!! 💘loving your videos!! If you haven't already mounted the TV -- I totally recommend the couch against the wall, not with the windows behind you. it'll have a safer energy (sitting/relaxing with something solid and grounding behind you instead of the outside world) and also make the room appear larger because you'll have a direct path in+out from the doorway to the window💘 can't recommend this enough! PS -- you're doing AMAZINGGG girl!! and I relate sooo hard to all the frustrations and meltdowns when shi+ isn't just simple, even for a small stretch of time would be nice right? lol! Sending hugs!!

Yay!!!! Comfort! Your nest is coming together girl! How about moving the couch to another wall though. Your blocking your air conditioner ,radiator and window. But oh sooo comfy! ENJOY! ❤❤❤

Hi Chelsea, greetings from Canada. In regards to your tree, maybe you can just remove the bottom section and use just the remainder which is not as wide and big. You may have to remove light cord from that section and add it to the remainder of your tree. I have done this to a tree in the past and you end up with a slimmer shorter version. That would save the hassle of selling it. Good luck and be patient with yourself, you will get there in the end.
