I had a triple arthrodesis done on my left foot twice to correct falling arches and severe foot deformity. Then 16 months ago I had an ankle fusion. The bones are fusing ok but i continue to get overwhelming pain and swelling in the left foot and ankle every month since the fusion. Doctor said amputation of the left lower leg is the next step. I'm so glad I found your channel. You have been very helpful. Thank you.

Thank you so much . this has been a really big help for me . left leg is coming off above the knee around mid January. this is exactly the sort of information we need that hospitals dont supply. they mean well but it has to come from the sharp end to be truly accurate. your a good man for doing this .

I to have a BKA (right foot) I've used the liner liner for many years. They are forgiving when trying to get that bolt straight. Getting it close is all I need. If it's off, put a thumb on the bolt and bend the whole end of the siliconeliner. It'll go on.

You make it look easy, I can never figure out how many socks to wear, also I don't have a sponge liner or snap in mechanism. I found this video helpful if you have any other hints that may be helpful can you please post them. Thanks

Thank you so much for sharing this aspect of your life with us. One question i have.....I noticed when you stood up it appeared as though your right leg was longer/taller than the prosthetic side, is that the way it is supposed to be? Doesn't that throw your lower back out of alignment? I have Charcot Foot & Ankle. My arch collapsed, my ankle joint is slowly disintegrating and my fibula will soon dislocate from the ankle because of it. There is talk of amputation and prostetic. I am very concerned as to my success with a prostetic as I am not strong physically, overweight, and female.

Amputee since Nov. 18, 2020. I was fitted for my leg on March 22, 2021. I cannot stand or walk. It seems that I lost all of my strength and I am now feeble. What can I do to gain normal strength in my body to use my leg? Thank you for your video.

I'm a double above the knee amputee since June 2018. PT gave me most of my strength back but don't give up. Sounds like you need to get with your PCP and get some physical therapy.

David Harrison, doctors and hospital people don't like to spend time on"maybe" answers. They wait until you are ready and then tell you what will work for you. It's frustrating to want more info and not be told anything, but there are so many options that MIGHT work, they could talk for hours. And you might be disappointed if the option you latched onto doesn't work. So they wait... And we wonder... As far as the bar that you asked about, are you talking about the pin on the end of the liner? If so, that's the pin that locks the prosthesis onto your leg. And yes, there are different styles that may or may not be work for you. Sort of like different models of cars and trucks with different features. In general, they're all for transportation, but can vary greatly.

+Steven Hurd thank you so much . An excellent straight forward answer. just the type I like . although I have a lot of orthopedic problems Prosthetics are a whole new world for me . my surgeons are very good I am just a control freak i guess . I live in the Uk but travel to the USA very frequently. mainly the southern states and plan to be visiting 2/3 times next year so thsts going to be another chapter for me . thank you so much . you have answered so many questions that I either could not reseach myself or did not want to ask someone who was already on this road .

I am a below the knee amputee and getting my prothstetic leg to feel comfortable is a huge daily challenge. Sometimes it is so sore to walk so I give up and use my wheelchair. My stump throbs at times it's unbearable. Any suggestions? Thanks 😊

Wally, first of all, best of luck to you. Hopefully you've got supportive family and friends that can help you, especially in the beginning. I think that most of us find that initial transition can be a bit overwhelming. Don't get too discouraged. Over time as you recover, you'll gain strength, and figure out how to get things done. Give yourself time to heal, then slowly begin to stretch yourself. Life will be different; but it still can be challenging and enjoyable too! The biggest thing in my mind in the beginning is to think everything through before you try it--the last thing you want to do is fall on your newly amputated leg. Besides hurting like crazy, you can damage your leg and it might take additional time to heal or you may need surgery to repair it. After the operation, the hospital should have therapists and social workers, etc. come by. Along with your doctor, they'll help get you set up. Ask questions and learn all you can. You might feel overwhelmed at first with so much new stuff to learn about. Just breath and take it one day at a time.

Steven Hurd I'm ready for the mental part of waking up without my leg I'm just worried about after the amputation. I know it has to happen so that's why I've been preparing myself mentally for the surgery. I'm more worried about the physical problems I will experience especially since I live alone and will never get a prosthetic.

Mark Boerum, glad the video helped some. Being an amputee is an adventure! Lots of new stuff to learn and figure out. Most people encounter various little setbacks along the way. That's just part of life! A good attitude is a must! If you haven't found the yet, get on-line for more info and support. My favorite Facebook page is "USA Facebook Amputees". It's a closed group with lots of sorry and people willing to answer questions, etc. A good website is www. amputee-coalition.org. There are lots of other good sites as well. Good luck! God bless you!

Due to a mishap in 2014, I am a Bilateral BK amputee. I don't see why this guy makes it seem so difficult. I get up in the morning, put on my liners that have a pin protruding from the bottom, slip into my prosthetic legs, and just go about my day. It's like putting on socks and shoes, no big deal. I use a classy looking cane to help enhance balance, and no problems. I think this guy is just looking for some sympathy. "Poor baby, you're so brave!" HA! HA! HA!
