NikTurner from Hawkwind played sax through a Marshall amp with effects pedals and that was the early 70s!
Nice video, as always. I enjoyed the crunch and octave split. Well done.
This made my day. There's GOT to be a market for this! We saxophonists spend so much time on tone exercises - why not enhance this with some new gear? I'd love to see more videos about going with combo amps vs. heads and also comparisons of various heads. Perhaps a collaboration with guitar specialists such as Andertons?

An Andertons collab!? What a dream that would be!

Bruh, check out Cecily Terhune on youtube. Her pedalboard build got me started on doing the same for my bari sax and bass clarinet.
The octaver is heavenly
the guy holding the sax at 0:18 tho
A modern take on the old Varitone Sax from Selmer
This just made my day! Thanks, guys. You are a lot of fun :-))
I liked the Octave Split sound, but wasn't keen on the other effects. James Carter proves you don't need an amp and effects to make that big rock/metal type sound on the saxophone.
thought same thing while listening: wah with pedal to control it with sax. Whoowwow
Selmer built a few VI's in the 60's with pickups in the neck and sold them with an amp and speaker.

They did and they're cool as hell - more of those in the world would rule!
Thanks again for this hilarious vid! I’m currently experimenting with (guitar)effects for my sax. Personally it was quite a struggle to get the right gear. Could you maybe do something on Sax effects in the future? I currently run: Radial Vocoloco (preamp), TC Electronics Plethora X5 (multi effect) and Meris LVX (delay) on my pedal board. Would love to see a video on effect pedals!
I have a bunch of guitar effects pedals and would love to use them in a gig, how would I go by adding them with a clip on sax mic? Love the video!
Just epic!
Or you could plug your mic straight in to the mic input of a Line 6 Helix. Not only do you have all the effects you could wish for in addition to the models of guitar and non-guitar amps and speakers, but it's also specifically designed to be able to be used like that!
So much fun guys. Keep on rocking it!
You guys are bonkers!!! And I mean that in the nicest way. 🤣
How did you compensate for the difference in level from the electric guitar and the sax microphone? Also: interesting vid. I think overdrive actually isn't that interesting with sax, as it already has such a rich harmonic timbre.I think flange, wha, phasers, resonant filter, that kind of thing is the way to go.The octave also sounded nice. Also yes: skip the amp. The effects work perfectly well straight into the desk. Im getting back into playing sax after years of doing guitar and synth stuff and I can't wait to play the sax through a Eurorack Modular Synth.
Can you please repeat this test with a Fender Twin Reverb? You will get a completely different result, with a different conclusion at the end. There is a reason why guitarists prefer amps to PA systems. Also, instead of using a guitar effects unit, try a vocalist's effects unit instead.
Guitar amp never eq flat.. So won't sound as a pa system. Try to work with the eq settings with for a more natural sound
A flanger would have been interesting...!

They missed the most obvious, which is a looper pedal. You play a rhythm line and then solo over it. You can jam with yourself.
0:18 , Lol , that mouthpiece is upside down
Great fun! What Mouthpiece and Reed are you playing?

Whoa. That actually sounds pretty good bro. Bit of practice it could work.
Didn't Michael Brecker already do it?

Is there anything Michael Brecker didn't do?
ffs, haven't you guys ever heard of a noise gate?
@saxworldwide
Жыл бұрын
Why yes we have heard of a noise gate! However, we haven't used one here because we wanted to give you the most accurate representation of how a saxophone sounds through a guitar amp in the room. As that's the theme of the video.
Ничо себе. так есть Саксофон-Ритм!
Alternate titles: 1. How to make a sax sound like shit 2. I have no idea what a looper pedal is for, but I won't test it, because being able to solo over myself would suck 3. Things with no practical use
