He didn’t specify the number of losses Russia can take. He simply stated a fact - history shows Russia can take huge losses in manpower and continue fighting. Russia is nowhere close to the estimated 8.7m Military personnel it lost in ww2. Let’s say that with aRussia’s reduced population they can now maybe sustain half that - they are still a long way short of 4.35m, so plenty more cannon fodder to throw in.

But absolutely, Russia is a dictatorship, and they don't care about human lives, but they were an even worse dictatorship during WW2. The reason it was a revolution in Russia in 1917 was due to the losses in WW1; due to this, the Tsar was killed. So history tells us that the Tsar (Putin) will be killed if it doesn't go good in a war. So, I would say he doesn't have endless cannon fodder. :)

Back in the thirties families were huge and there was a virtually inexhaustible supply of young men that a country could draw from to fill their ranks, this was generally true of all nations during the titanic struggles of the early twentieth century. To rely on wasteful tactics in the same manner today is to invite disaster for your country; if it doesn’t manifest itself immediately it certainly will within a generation.

Exactly, today's russia is approximately 90mln which is twice the size of the Ukrainian population. Their own statistics inflate that number to 140mln the same way a small animal is trying to intimidate larger ones. There are 15-20mln of the russian population concentrated in moscow and Peter putin is not willing to tap into. In reality russia is no match for Ukraine.
