    I love this scene. Of all the people around him, only Olivia cared enough to check on him & make sure he was okay. I love how he just fell into her arms & started crying. She is the only one who he could be open with & truly let go. He just lost his father & as much as they had their ups & downs, I'm sure it still hurts. This is a true show of Olivia & Fitz love because she knows him. She knows that he just needed someone to be there for him & that's what she did. She was just there.

    This is another reason why I can’t stand when people pity Mellie & Fitz’s relationship. Even if they were somewhat amicable, Mellie should’ve known how this would effect him and been a “good wife” enough to check on him-what he actually needed rather than internalizing his grief.

    This is one of my favorite scenes because it quiets the fans who say "Fitz only wants Olivia for the $*x." This scene is true intimacy between a man and woman; it takes trust to break down to that vulnerable state with someone. If their relationship were only superficial, this scene would have never happened.

  • @bonitaroache73

    @bonitaroache73

    I absolutely agree with you on all the points you made. Certain people have a vested interest in trying to convince the audience that Fitz is only interested in $ex with Olivia but he's proven time and again that Olivia is the love of his life and that he can't be without her love either.

  • @faithwatkins7811

    He can get sex from any woman hell he is the perfect package and he's the most powerful man in the world as president. He's pining over one woman all these years has to be more than just sex. Because he's married they feel like he can't be in love with another woman. When you are in a loveless marriage it's easy to fall in love with someone else. Mellie has made it easy for Olitz to be together but when she sees that her livelihood is threatened or her future that's when she wants to act like a scorned wife who wants her husband to stop cheating on her.

    Don't throw tomatoes at me, but I think part of why people said that was bc they can't imagine a white president genuinely loving a black woman. Black women are more often sexualized by white men. But hardly ever in love or truly intimate. At least that's what the stereotype is. Personally, I think there's truth to it, but not 100% of the time. And this is an example of this. Fictional, but still plausible and believable.

    Looking back on it, this is one of the scenes that fueled Liv's complicity with Defiance. Her intense understanding of his complicated emotions about himself and his father drove her to blur the lines between what would help him politically and what would help him emotionally. She truly was trying to FIX him but in the way someone does when they let their desire for their loved one to succeed and be happy in life over rule their responsibility to be honest with them. Her love is very honorable toward him but the fixer in her got it twisted up. She is so soft and sensual and understanding toward him here. That's the essence of a woman being in love with a man.

    Intimacy is when you can show someone your most vulnerable face and still except them for who they are and this was displayed here. Even tho Fitz says how much he hated his father there was a lose there for him and he wanted his father to except him for who he was and Liv gave him that understanding comfort that he seek. @henrheehigginz6009

    Barbara Raye Mellie's first desire for power was as Flotus (E106) her Dolly Madison dream. She thought by being Fitz's Fluffer (like when she used to channel Big Gerry's ideas to Fitz as her own) she'd get to run the world without really having the responsibility for any mistakes - like what Bitsy did for her ADD Potus husband. *It's why when Olivia wasn't in the picture any more, advising Fitz (E213 - E217), she & Cyrus were at war in competing to control Their Garden/Fitz.* However, as we all know Mellie isn't capable that way & once Olivia & Fitz were a team there was no way she was going to get to even try her hand at advising him. That is why (E201) in the televised America's Baby gender reveal Mellie decided to high-jack Fitz's political agenda even when she didn't have access to the data. As you recall that ploy resulted in her being told the truth - that she was ornamental not functional. Mellie would have been totally fine being the power behind the throne if the man in the throne kept telling everyone that the real dynamo is his wife. *BUT* that wasn't her political marriage reality & she also had no skills at crafting her own political legacy - which meant she stayed with the soft issues that bored her & didn't give a public persona as an independently brilliant political power house. Noteworthy though is that while raging at Fitz to give her a war to run or the CIA - whenever she took an issue to showcase her skills she always felt a speech was the way to be a politician (the honeymooning wife who accidentally killed her husband (E403), WWW speech on campaign trail (E316), Kashwari kidnappings (E215). In Mellie's wisdom she conceded to the deal where she gave up her job to be the Mellie version of The Good Wife, she hasn't worked in law or politics for 10 years, before the WH. Additionally she never once ran or worked in a committee to try to pass a bill like Hillary Clinton did as Flotus; & Hillary had a political & law career right up to Bill being the Dem primary winner. In Mellie's fantasies,*Flotus as a power platform fulfilled the fame she wanted, & would give her a hand on the till of world power & fame she craved without having to be accountable. Remember Mellie doesn't do accountability or culpability. She does, however feel FLotus is like being the next in line as the Leader of the Free World* - just see how arrogantly she told Mr. Damascus Bainbridge: "I am the First Lady of the US!" *She totally expected that empty power TITLE to make him quiver & run. But since the truth is that ALL Mellie's independent power moves blow up disastrously, OR she gets others more skilled to do the actual work to net her desired result - Rowan knew who he was dealing with wasn't anywhere close to his daughter (he SO poked fun at her with that line). LOL* Mellie started to float her 'goal' as an independent politician based on thinking that Fitz is nothing to her spectacular brilliance; surrounding herself with sycophants who pad her ego; *AND being in direct competition with Olivia - who does run shit!* Olivia is someone who she tries to best at every turn & well... fails. The first time she aired that little nugget about being Potus, it was because Fitz wouldn't get over Liv, & she threatened to blow him up. She only threatened 'her bright, bright political future' in retaliation because in her opinion, he clearly was a once around the ballroom kind of Potus - as she'd make it so if he tried to divorce her. *And as honesty is NOT in Mellie's make-up, she won't be able to admit that EVERY BIT OF HER CLIMB TO THE WH WAS FACILITATED BY OTHERS ... starting with Big Gerry secret plot to get her married to Fitz, Cy's training for the political wife image, & Olivia saving her azz time after time after time, etc. None of Mellie's brain power has gotten her where she is - it's her looks, breeding & acting skills.* I hope that SR will not write Mellie getting to be Potus because while G. W Bush did it by being puppeted by a strong (but corrupt) VP - I think it would be a horrible message to send in our *RL political climate where a highly qualified, self-generated political resume & accomplished former Flotus is running for Potus.* Mellie only wants to be Potus now because it's the only way keep a fame spotlight on her. Her self worth is gotten from others' worshipping her...& she knows that will not come from the idealistic, optimistic, romantic, honorable man who she doesn't respect anyway - she lost his regard when she showed him who she truly was long before Olivia was in the picture.

You don't know if it's really an irresistable love that transcends morals, or if what u see is just a passion fuled by the forbidden. I hate it when 'love' is the excuse for wrongdoing, for unfaithfulness. It's the ''fate'' card cheater and liars and manipulatives use.

TG has a real history book in his head & his story telling is what he's paid 2 portray. I would love 2 read an unfiltered biography of his life. But I'm not at all confident that it willl ever come 2 fruition. 2 many secrets, 2 many love 1's 2 protect, 2 many embellishments & 2 many non disclosure agmts IMO

    Let's talk. She was going to tell him about their (Hollis', Cyrus', Verna's and Mellie's) determination to rig the election for an un-clean win. She was going to be his partner and not theirs as he wanted them to be, and thought they were (*219 hospital scene*) ... And then he was broken by the news of Big Gerry's death, - by the fact that he would never get to show his dad he was not a failure and he could do something that (his father) Big Gerry thought and predicted he couldn't do on his own, without corruption. *That's how Livvie lost the key to her mind, and with her bleeding heart and a tortured soul tried to fix his pain, band-aid his pain with a cheated win.* *When she was crying on the floor, that was love; that was not control. My babies ... so drunk in love!*

    Realistic Optimist Kristi Bradford Camille Cooper Agreed. She so was going to out the cabal and their nasty plans to Fitz; then because of the news and the tailspin it put him in; she didn't. I'm guessing they discussed all of this in Vermont - because they have re-set their commitment and don't let even Jake trying to shame and out her (317) in Fitz's presence between them planning their life together.

    Kristi Bradford coop4olitz SaneSophisticated Sassy I actually think Rowan will only come between them if Olivia lets that be so - from the last scene in 318 it didn't look like Fitz had changed in his love, dedication and devotion. But we will see. BTW, in leaked pictures from shooting 401 Liv was wearing the same close we saw her wearing to board the plan with the Snake ... so I'm not sure about a new hairstyle and such.
