I come from a abusive family ! My stepfather did not care for me at all . ! He would hurt me terribly ! As a adult I found it hard to forgive him ! He died and felt nothing! I was still angry! After listening to joyce I finally forgave him and myself for acting unforgiving!

You are not alone. Many of us had jerks as step-fathers and felt nothing when they died. I felt disappointed that mine took his life and didn't die of some horrible disease. But as I type this, I think about how much pain he must have been in to kill himself, and it makes me feel a little compassion for him.

Sister Joyce, you are speaking to me. My oldest son I read the Bible to him the whole time I was pregnant. I continued it when he was born, at night before bed I would continue to read. And, his nursery I painted a mural of Noah's art, it was life-size I even painted the Lil animals two by two. To where he could take them off the wall and put them back. You are preaching to Myself.

I forgive but still struggle with fear that the person I have had to forgive multiple times will once again hurt me because I have been hurt by them so many times. I know I can pray to God and put my trusts in Him, but in the end that person has their free will to choose their own actions and have repeatedly chosen to hurt me. I have spilled out my heart and soul to this person. They know every single secret and thing there is to know. My hurts, my past, trust issues caused by others who have hurt me and caused by them hurting me. They know how they themselves have hurt me and have repeatedly promised to be better, but have repeatedly let me down. How can I trust someone who has hurt me so many times and don't seem to acknowledge the responsibility they have to help restore this if they want me to trust them?

Because God gives us free will how can we trust by faith that a person will change? Also how is it love if they aren't choosing to love you, but instead are being caused to love you?

This is the pinnacle of this test we go through. This how do we forgive the person who habitually hurts us. I don’t know all the answers but here are a few thoughts. Of you feel you must stay there, consider mentally disengaging. Take a breath and say to yourself: I am so grateful I am not you. Even consider taking a some deep breaths and say I am breathing in Jesus and His protection and healing. Secondly look up the topic “dealing with bullies.” Not everyone will have an approach that works for you but I think it’s good to avoid future bullies from developing. Thirdly when it’s a verbal type of abuse/hurt, I have been known to straight out say: I would never say that to you or You would never tolerate anyone saying something like that to you. Please refrain from the temptation to act it out towards them. You just say it calmly. There were even times when I put a small calm smile on my face and said: I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that! And I immediately pray Jesus, please erase that thought from ever coming to mind again. Thirdly, pray to God that He change their heart. Enlist a trusted prayer warrior if you can!

What about if the person you love and break your back to show them how much u care , also starts to use that love as a means to punish you when you don't "behave " as they want you to. But you can't ever see yourself with anyone else. Why can't things just be beautiful and simple. Like they once were. When I met. The light of my life.

This isn’t for you, because you clicked on a female preacher to post this comment..smh. But for anyone who sees this comment, look up Priscilla and Aquila. Also research what those women had been taught concerning the goddess Diana.. Paul thanked many women and acknowledged them as his “co laborers” in spreading the gospel. There are many verses, when taken out of context, that can be used to oppress others. Many people years ago did the same thing with the verses concerning “slaves obey your masters, even when they are harsh with you.”

Firgiving people is not part of our character. Our caracter is adamic , bound to sin . Unless the Holly Spirit takes over and cause us to love and pray for those who hurt us
