Dude this film is crazy good, manages to create a shockingly mature tale, wastes no time and touches all of Puss’s inner and outer conflicts really well, the wolf is honestly terrifying and amazingly portrayed. Phenomenal film.

I've always said that the characters need to take a movie seriously if the audience is to take it seriously, and The Last Wish NAILED this! You can have jokes and humor, and lots of it, but not at the expense of the film. There were lots of genuine laugh-out-loud moments in The Last Wish which naturally flowed from the traits of the well developed characters as they pursued their goals in all earnestness; rather than from some millennial writer forcing in a flippant "it's a stupid cartoon" joke. I'm so tired of Marvel-style subversion in every big film. The Last Wish did it right! Spiderverse did it right! Rango did it right! We need more movies like these!

To learning after the movie that Antonio Banderas survived a heart attack because of quick thinking of his girlfriend at the time in 2017 really added to the reality of his performance. The scene of him having a panic attack and the rapid breathing felt a lot more intense and critical than I would have thought. The whole theme of the movie too was his focus after surviving Antonio said was the things that matter most being with his friends and family. Definitely a surprise favorite for me too.

When he says "I am DEATH...Straight.Up." it clicked in my mind that we were not seeing an actual wolf. we are seeing a physical manifestation of death from PussNboot's own perspective. what would a "fearless hero" sword fighting cat comprehend as "Death" ? Simple, a towering, intimidating, relentlessly hungry kanine hunting him down to take the only life Puss has left, and end his legend forever. The wolf also uses Sickles, which were historically used to yank riders off of their horses in battle. Meaning, Death is literally there to knock the "arrogant little legend" off of his high horse. "ARGH! Why did I have to go and play with my food?!" might just be my favorite villain line ever

It is nice that dreamworks can still deliver worthwhile materiel for its older franchises. The Shrek franchise has hope moving forward. Considering how much that Netflix show “spirit riding free” really deviated from the core themes from the original movie. I wasn’t entirely sure it was a good idea for them to even touch the older franchises anymore but this shows me that they can still deliver if they really want to.

As for the spirit show itself ignoring that the horse is literally about Spirit Jr. It really was not a bad show similar vibe to the kind of shows I would’ve watched when I was a little kid in the 90s or 2000s era. But the problem is that they used an IP that had an established themes and core values to it. That the show in a lot of ways threw out the window when making his Son’s show. I mean they don’t even bother to mention Spirit or Rain from the movie in *anyway* in the show. It vary loosely follows the idea of “spirit the horse that couldn’t be broken” and other attributes that the original spirit had. I mean the only real positive that I can say about this show is that at the very least dreamworks confirmed that Spirit and Rain really did make it long-term or at least long enough to have a kid together. Then when their Son grew up he went on to have a herd of his own to look after. So at the very least we know that the bloodline of spirit didn’t end with the original one. That’s really the *only* thing about the show that I can find some consolation in. But I’m gonna be honest if this was just a random horse show, that had no connection to spirit in anyway shape or form I’m not gonna lie it would be a fairly decent show. They just used the *wrong* horse from the *wrong family* to be the star of it.

I like how 2D animation is making a comeback with mixing into 3D. This, Bad Guys, and Spiderverse are 3D with a ton of 2D elements and inspiration and then Klaus was 2D with 3D effects added on top. This has been bubbling under the surface of 3Ds complete dominance since Disney bailed on 2D and I am all here for this new mixed approach. It is so pretty and makes for some cool shots.

The story was honestly top tier, he’s desperate for two things that are both intangible and I love that. He’s not stealing anything or protecting anything that he can actually put his paws on. He’s running from death, but deciding what kind of life is actually worth living. He wants to live, but he also wants to *LIVE* and it’s freaking great to watch. I never realized how much I agree when you said this feels like old school DreamWorks. You’re SPOT ON. I’m 22 and have been watching DreamWorks my entire life, this is the first time in years that my peace was disturbed by watching one of their villains. Of course with the cloak I first thought he was just dressing like the Grim Reaper. Only later when it was revealed did I realize that this thing had no way to pass through the energy the star was creating without being literal death. I also like that since it’s after a cat it appears as a wolf. Edit: My favorite part would have to be that the forest responds to who you are. Examining your desires and leading you into more danger if you have a bigger lesson to learn about why you want your wish. And the fact that it teaches a perspective that’s largely opposed these days. That perspective being not to allow what you’ve been through to change you. Many times we use what we’ve been through as a “logical” excuse to treat people worse and worse. So the fact that the dog’s life had been the literal worst and yet nothing could stop him from being happier than the characters who had much more of what they wanted was the best way to teach Puss his lesson. When searching for the meaning of your life, the best thing to search for is what makes you happy. Yes morals and whatever else come into the question, but if you’re not a piece of garbage it’s easy to find happiness that doesn’t bring detriment to others. I hope the message of this movie got across to live for something real and not for shallow things like attention from the masses, the coveting of power, or trying to solve a problem that only exists in your mind.

Don't agree at all that the beginning was "a bit lacking" at all as the start of the movie was ALL about trying to highlight on how much vanity and pride Puss has in his name, how people view and love him, and HOW skilled he really is. ONLY to then bring him down to earth and have him get humbler and humbler throughout the movie. The beginning was PERFECT for setting everything up by having that fantastic song for Puss getting sung as WELL as showing on how cool and badass he was taking out the giant on his own. These were ALL key and important stuff and the dialogue wasn't "bit lacking" at all as it was set-up and paced PRETTY well extremely so. Love this whole movie entirely!

The animation and artwork in Puss in boots kind of reminded me of Arcane. Spiderverse animators were geniuses to use it and pioneer systems to enhance it since it portrays the look of scrolling through a comic book almost perfectly. Puss in Boots is a statement piece, its used almost exclusively on action sequences to portray fast movement. I wouldn't be surprised if puss in boots upsets Pinocchio, its my pick for animated feature. It hits on ALL cylinders. It is visually impressive, plenty of colour and art style is pristine. Its got one of the best action scenes in any animated films. The characters are all pretty immersive and have plenty of depth that wasn't present in the first film, with this many characters it can be hard to juggle with but even characters that are secondary to Puss in Boots and Kitty all have great moments. I found the humour pretty good and relaxing, there is very little cringe and annoying characters that seem to fill most animated films (the dog had potential to become an annoying character but turned out to be a pretty important and heartwarming character). The most impressive thing I thought was the themes it presented and how it executed them. It tackles various themes such as indulgence of fame and making the most of what you have, which are generally simple themes but this movie doesn't shoe horn any of that in and doesn't feel forced. The movie moves with extremely good momentum through its 1:40 run time and has very little dead space or parts that were dragged out. One of the best movies of the year and is a must see. Younger audiences would love the sheer entertainment value of the visuals and comedy while the older audiences can appreciate the maturity in which it goes about presenting important themes for the younger audiences.

Same, I wasn't planning to watch it until all of the praise. Puss 2 was absolutely stunning. Funny, silly, mature, witty and clearly took a lot from Spider-Verse's action, heart and artistic merit. It still feels like Shrek's universe, just with a new coat of paint. Spooky too, you feel the danger whenever that wolf pops up on screen because he cannot be stopped. Theater I saw it in was full and the audience loved it! Shrek was heavily teased as returning too, I am genuinely hyped.

I just saw it last night and it was GREAT! It was so good hearing Antonio Banderas’ voice come out of this adventurous cat! The story sounds simple but it’s executed very well. The villain (the Wolf) was very fascinating and genuinely scary and cool. I love how we think he’s just another bounty hunter but then the twist comes that he’s actually the grim reaper, literally!! The animation truly surprised me. The CGI mixed with looking 2D at times and moves in a stop motion like way in certain scenes. This is to me, my favorite movie in the Shrek franchise and this movie is living proof that DreamWorks is still nailing it in the movie and animation industry! DreamWorks, you did really great!😉👍

This has got to be DreamWorks best movie so far. They really raised the bar on this one. I even watched this movie for the first time on some good quality headphones in ultra HD. Even got stoned beforehand. This movie blew my mind with the layers of Character development. It just feels so relatable, if you've ever had to face your own mortality. Truly amazing work of art. I've been watching animated films since I was 3. My first one in theaters was beauty and the beast. I've always been a huge Disney and DreamWorks fan. This easily blows many classic Disney films out of the water. I truly am grateful for the opportunity to enjoy this movie. Death was a very well made character. His voice actor is truly a master at his trade. And the little puppy was the best. He brought out the best in every other character with his innocence and purity. Can't wait to see what they do next at DreamWorks.
