Brock, the highlight of this video is the time that you spend with your grandson. It reminds me of the time that I spent with mine. When you raise your children with trying to make a living and all the things that are a part of raising your own children time goes by to quickly but you are making memories with your grandson that are timeless. Trust me on this. My #1 grandson is 31 years old and has a wife and two daughters and he still calls me all the time. You are making a legacy that neither you or he will ever forget. Buddy, I hope you've noticed that I'm not the kind to Monday morning quarterback you by now. However when you broke through and there was a person standing there I nearly had a stroke. Please God be careful with that kind of stuff. I broke a blade on one of these and it turned into a ten pound bullet that flew about 75 yards. Also, Google satellite view can really help navigate when you get into these big thick properties. Map view will also help define property lines as well.

You can use the brushcutter to feel the ground in front of you for things like rocks, soft ground and inclines when you're in places its harder to see. Just push the front end down into the ground to see what it's like. Just make sure to go slow and back up frequently when doing that. You can also back up over brush left on the ground with the front end down to get a cleaner cut.

I bought a Diamond Mowers SK Pro mower which is rated to 10” diameter trees. I’ve never tested that claim with anything more than maybe 6”. I think my next purchase would be a disc mulcher mainly because it can do what a drum mulcher can do but at half the price. Nice video!

A few things to consider with a skid steer rotary cutter. When going through trees you can hear the cutter slow down. If you don’t have a relief line back to the machine the motor can blow the seals. The Diamond cutters have solved all my issues with this, the Diamond is rated for 8” and still works great for grass. The mulchers do not cut grass.

Right. I have looked at those diamonds cutters. The Loftness Timber axe is a unique product in the industry as a 30 year old design before mulchers were popular. It mulches and cuts grass. Kind of like a ultra tough flail mower.

I had the same thought though If I was using a mulched I would have had to switch attachments back and forth for the clearing

@@RockhillfarmYT right, I just cleared 10acres with the Diamond tri blade. Worked great for the 3’ tall grass along with the super annoying 3-4” honey locust trees. FYI. Good choice on the Deere, our bobcat t650 overheats all the time.

@@82ndpara21 I think in summer time 90+ degrees most machines without a auxiliary hydraulic cooler will eventually have problems. Ive used a Cat 279 with no aux cooler and rotary cutter and it would overheat on and off all day in louisiana heat.

I've never ran one on a skid but have been surprised by what a brush hog on a 60 hp tractor will do

I see what you mean about pushing the limits of the brush hog. Suggest a mulcher for the forrest like brush.

Way to close a video out Brock!👍. That’s a nice set up. Lookin behind you constantly and backing up on a tractor gets old when brush cutting a lot of area and around trees you want to keep. Been looking at loader mounted options for my tractor, for clean up and tree lines.

Nice job Brock. Have you used an open front rotary cutter? Do you think it would’ve done any better? I’m researching both styles now.

Idigit4 on here. There's plenty of videos of him in some seriously thick stuff and how he works the cutter to make cutting it easier. The only advice I can give is always keep the backside of the deck pointed away from the window. I've seen first hand what a chunk of wood will do when it blasts through it.

Mow/bush hog seems pretty good. Now that its been a year or so how has it held up???

I think if you are considering making land clearing a big part of your business the mulching fecon style head is the way to go.IF you are only making it a small portion of the business i think the rotary cutter on the skidloader worked pretty darn good.There's a big financial commitment difference between the two.

I'd take a battery grinder to restore the edge on the blade every hour or so

Buy and use a DJI drone for quick reconnaissance. I have the little Spark and do that if I get disoriented.

How much do you generally charge on a job like this?

Looks like it works nice only thing I don't like is the people standing in front of you when you headed in their direction.

It’s got John Deere stickers on it. Sold by my Deere dealership but I don’t know who actually makes it.
