Purrfect Side Hustle: Meowtel Cat Sitting | my experience

Are you curious what working as a cat sitter for Meowtel is like? Have you considered cat sitting as a side hustle or even full-time career? OR are you a cat owner wondering if Meowtel is a viable option for finding an amazing sitter for your fur baby?
In this video I tell you all about my experiences working as a cat sitter for the popular cat-sitting app: How I found out about it, what the application and onboarding process is like, how to find clients and set your rates/radius, Meowtel's expectations and rules, what my experiences have been like so far and - the question everyone is wondering - how much money can you actually make?
I also give some tips for success if you are considering signing up as a Meowtel cat sitter and share my opinion about using the app to find sitters from the perspective of a cat owner/lover.
So...if you're a cat lover looking for the purrfect side hustle, or a cat owner wondering if Meowtel is a viable option for finding an amazing sitter for your fur baby, this is the video for you!

    So sorry for your loss. Thank you for this video. Would you recommend this job to someone looking for a pt job? Can you make your own schedule? Do you have to set aside $ to cover taxes?

    Thank you so much! Personally I think it’s a great PT job! Signing up is free & you never have to take jobs - just make sure to update your availability regularly online because Meowtel does track what percentage of the jobs you accept that you say you’re available for. However if you mark yourself unavailable you are fine! You very much set your own schedule. Some pet parents specify what time they prefer you stop by each day but most are extremely flexible. If you love cats & like flexible schedules go for it! And yes taxes are your responsibility. The app tracks your earnings and mileage (which is a write off) so it’s very easy

    @@dawn1163 my references were for pet sitting jobs, yes, but if I wouldn’t have had those I would’ve used a different professional reference, someone who could speak to reliability, punctuality, work ethic, etc. I do remember the line about not using family members/etc as references. I would think the main thing they want to confirm is that they are hiring a responsible person.

    What a great update - thank you so much for letting me know, and sorry for the delayed reply! Ordering the merch is a great idea! You are so right about the differences between Meowtel and Rover...I very much prefer Meowtel's approach. I feel like when I use Rover I am too focused on filling everything out and it is distracting from what I really should be doing. Hope your experience is continuing to go well!

    Thank you so much! I have not yet stayed overnight at anyone's house. Sometimes I open up my availability for it, but I almost never get those requests. And honestly...I am hesitant just because I live alone with Katniss and so if I am staying at someone else's house this means deserting my own cat. But we shall see how things develop in the future. My experience has been that most cats are independent enough that owners are satisfied with one or two daily visits

    Do you have your own litter box and things for the cats or do the owners bring everything needed? And how do you find that the different cats get along with your dog(s)? RIP Jackson 😢 so sorry

  • @MeowmyandMe

    @MeowmyandMe

    10 ай бұрын

    Awww thank you for your condolences on Jackson - I miss him so much! The owners provide everything needed for the cats, although I have occasionally brought along a favorite toy that I think the cat may enjoy. When I do this, I always let the owners know and send pictures. I also never leave that toy at their house but take it with me when I leave. I don't introduce different cats to my dogs, because I am going to their homes, they aren't coming to mine. I have actually learned that inviting cats to my house is against Meowtel policy. I think in general cats feel much more comfortable in their own home environment, as they are very much creatures of habit. Hope this makes sense!

    Sorry haven’t finished the video yet, so forgive me if you do mention this. But how do you avoid the possibility of someone “dumping” a pet on you, like they just don’t show up to pick them up?

  • @MeowmyandMe

    @MeowmyandMe

    4 ай бұрын

    Unfortunately I don’t think this is something you can avoid completely, as a person who would do this likely wouldn’t be honest about their intentions up front. One thing I have started doing is asking every client for an emergency backup - a friend or neighbor I could call to help out in an emergency. For example, a snow storm that recently dumped 24” at my house made it physically impossible to leave for a day, but I had their next door neighbor as a backup. This was arranged ahead of time because I had been watching the weather and mentioned to the client my concern. What I have learned fairly quickly is that people who hesitate to discuss an emergency backup are the ones to watch out for. Fortunately no one has dumped an animal on me yet, although I have had two people tell me they planned to give their pets to a shelter unless I knew someone who would take it (and make no mistake; they were trying to get me to volunteer)

    @@MeowmyandMe Thank you so much for your reply. The emergency contact is a good idea. Lets just say that someone who was, lets say on holiday, was supposed to come pick up the animal a week ago, and now you can not contact them. How long do you keep the animal? And what if the emergency contact doesn’t want the animal. I would be conflicted to 1. keep the animal, in case the owner eventually shows up(but also what if they do not pay the rest of the stay) 2. Give the animal away 3. A rescue/shelter (But what if the owner does show up and the animal has been given away) There are many people that leave the country for good, and some may find leaving them with you rather than paying a surrender fee a better choice. And make you an involuntary volunteer 😬

    @@simplyemz5139 this is true. My friend owned a doggy daycare and I remember there was a German Shepherd who was dropped off and never picked up 💔 That poor dog lived at the doggy daycare for multiple months while my friend tried repeatedly to get ahold of its family. Technically in Colorado an animal is considered abandoned if it has been left somewhere for 10 days or more AND a written notice has been sent by certified mail to the owner, return receipt requested. Each state’s laws are different and it is important to learn what your state requires. But once an animal has been deemed abandoned, the owner can be charged with animal cruelty and the pet can be legally turned over to a shelter (or kept for yourself I suppose). I think it’s nearly a certainty that someone who would abandon a pet won’t be paying you for that extra time. Personally it would break my heart and I would consider keeping the animal if feasible. But definitely before giving it away make sure you are aware of and following the laws in your state.
