Just so you know the skull guardian voiceless card only has its negate while Lo is on the field. It gains attack while Lo is on the field or gy.

I always go 3. Tye fact I only get 1 card for 3 OR 6, it doesn't seem worth losing half my extra deck

Purrely hardly ever goes into anything outside of its cats, and tech options or cat multiples don't always come up. It's almost always worth to prosp 6

Guessing it was a missplay where both players read the card wrong. Spell from deck Monster from deck or graveyard. I've honestly done it before on accident as well where I added the ritual spell from gy.
