Purple Whippet in Enamel and Copper

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a video tutorial on how to use enamels. I filmed my enamelling process; using a stencil; blending and layer different enamels to get the colours you want, creating texture and depth.
I use leaded enamels mostly. In this video I use mostly opaque but also transparent enamels together.

Awesome. Do all the pieces stay together because they are in a frame. Can watch for hours. Over and over.

Hi Geraldine, Luvly piece of work, thankyou for sharing, looking forward to your next. PS I’ve spent COVID trying to learn enamelling with many MANY failures - you make it look so easy, I’ll keep going if you keep inspiring 🤪

Hi Lesley, good for you to get started. It takes ages to learn...there are so many computations and things that can go wrong and you can't understand why. It takes a lot of practice and you should keep practicing your sifting - keeping the sifter parallel to the piece, make sure you are using the right mesh size for the enamel particle size, take copious notes on your test pieces and just keep on practicing! Its the only way I'm afraid, but pretty enjoyable too.

Hi Geraldine. I’m really enjoying your tutorials. Where did you get those tiny millifiore? The ones I have purchased are much bigger. Thank you for your help.

Hi Jill, you’re very welcome and I’m glad you’re enjoying the tutorials. I know, most of the Millefiori are actually too big for enamelling...I’ve had these ones for years and am not 100% sure but I either got them at Milton Bridge or WG Ball in England...they are called “wafers” . So try those two places. They’re very expensive unfortunately but they do look nice!

Great work… how are the pieces of the 'jigsaw' held together once made?

I use various different glues - just make sure you get one that doesn't go brittle with age...

How did you do the slits for the eyes?

Hi Janet, I didn't use stilts for the eyes, for things that small I use ceramic fibre board cut up into small squares. So they aren't wobbling around. I cut the squares up to about 1.5 inches squared so that they are stable. If you get ceramic fibre board it usually comes in a 12x12 inch x 0.5 inch thick sheet that can be cut with a Stanley knife. But make sure to wear a mask while cutting it, it is bad for you to inhale...
