A mix of bad mixing, bad vocal direction from whoever was coaching them that day, them trying to make it sound like they're singing "Live" instead of in a studio. They should have stuck to the original format the other Archives used. No one would have been mad about a Studio quality cover.

Because of that, of course they won't fix rng and the prices. So I'd expect more various and high quality covers from Colorful Stage, at least. And make them playable. *This is a song analysis/rant or whatever, and is a bit of a long comment, just to be warned* Alright, I *think* I may have found the reason people are having issues with the cover, and the blame does not fall on either Akito or An, but rather it is the line distribution, the voice direction, and the way they have their voices interact with one another. I’ll also give some thoughts on how they could have improved. Take this with a heap of salt. By no means am I some master musician, these are just my personal thoughts. Line Distribution/Voice Interaction - Alright, let’s get this out of the way first. The line distribution feels all over the place, which isn’t the fault of the CVs, and it’s because it doesn’t have them commit to a role of either main or backing vocal. They swap A LOT and it causes a sense of whiplash when it does. Compared to the OG GimmexGimme, Rin takes the role of main vocal with Miku being the rapper/backing vocal. This cover has An and Akito try to fill both roles, and it just does not work with the way the song is structured. From what I’ve gathered, VBS songs have a tendency to pair up the male vocals and have the females back it, or vice versa. It’s pretty rare for them to split off in male-female main vocal pairs compared to WxS, which handles the gender split much better in my opinion. The only two songs I can think of off the top of my head that do this are Children Record and Echo, and they’re both REALLY good covers in my opinion, but the guys do sing a bit by themselves before the girls take over and then they join back in to back them. How would I change it? Stop swapping the voices around. If Akito is going to rap, let him rap. If An sings, let her sing. But if they both need to sing, then there is something else that they can change to compensate. Voice Direction - Akito/An is an amazing pair of voices when used well, it was shown in Echo after all, but this isn’t them using their voices to their full potential in my opinion. GimmexGimme is a song that actually thrives on the fact that it is sung by vocaloids, giving the song a more electronic beat that makes it so catchy to listen to. Akito and An are not vocaloids, and it shows because it REALLY sounds like An is straining her voice to try and match Rin’s pitch. Her having to constantly sing in a higher register than her more natural voice compared to something like Forward really shows itself. It also doesn’t help that Akito’s trying to match with hers either during the chorus, but An’s voice being so shrill and loud overpowers it. So, what could change? Truth be told, GimmexGimme isn’t a song that really compliments Akito or An’s voices all that well. An really sounds like she’s pushing herself to sing all of those high notes during the chorus, and what Akito offers to the song can be sung by someone else just as easily with little to no difference in the way that it truly sounds. If anything, Kohane would probably sound better as she’s able to match Rin’s pitch and hit constant high notes much easier than An can. But if An has to be the one to sing, try to let her use her more natural voice and tone it down a bit. There’s already a male voice where one originally wasn’t after all. As for Akito, give some more feeling to his voice. As many of you have claimed, yeah. The man is being held at gunpoint and is half asleep. Let them man be louder, let him growl a bit or something like Miku did. His voice isn’t “bad”, what he gives is fine, it’s just that there’s nothing else that makes it pop. Final Thoughts - It’s an alright cover. Definitely not the best they have, but it’s something I can gain a bit of enjoyment out of. GimmexGimme is a very hard song to sing too, and the chorus is really the only major issue after all. The pre-chorus and the ending are actually pretty solid and I enjoyed the vibrato An had in her voice during it. Akito also sounded pretty good during the ending as well. So, take this as you will. Just my own thoughts. tldr: The voices are fine, it’s just the mixing is damn awful and it feels like they were given deliberate instructions to sing like they did. Akito needs to “wake the f*ck up soldier” and An needs to take a BREATH DEAR LORD GIRL STOP STRAINING YOURSELF.

this broke sakis bones, killed kanades mom, sent kanades dad to the hospital, made mafuyu lose feelings, made mizuki struggle with gender identity, and made leo/need split up in middle school.

Honestly feel a bit bad for the singers here. Normally together I think the two of them sound amazing. And while I dont think this cover is god awful or anything, its def not as good as their usual. Honestly I just think it was down to poor direction and song choice. In their defense this is a really difficult song to sing well, especially for people at very different pitches. It probably would've been better with both girls singing given the higher pitch of the song, but yea. I can't really give the singers hate for it. Theres probably a lot behind the scenes that happened that we dont know that affected the final mix.

I think Kohane did well, so they should have chosen Kohane and An for this cover. It's not the singers that are bad, just the mixing.

It feels like both of them were given different directions on how to approach their parts to sing without being shown the others part to be able to tell how to work off each other oml

the main reason this is so bad is because their energy isnt matching. akito sounds tired but an sounds like she chugged 4 monster energy drinks. if akito also chugged the monster itd sound great
