Pure Surfing Chaos in LA

Спорт

New swell brings pure CHAOS with it to El Porto beach.
The good news... a mediocre swell finally hit. The bad: everyone was jonesing for waves and paddled out together.
Thanks for watching! I'm Brad Jacobson and I'll sea ya on the sand.

Overcrowded spots are not even worth going in. I always end up going down the beach even if the waves are worse just so I don't have to compete with 5 other people for the same wave.

Hey! Man I love the style of your videos. Growing up in the 80s I would watch old surf movies from the 60s and 70s because it was really all I had beside the magazines. I can definitely see the influence in your narration, especially the humorous bits. I dig it! Anyway, hope you see the comment.

There's a beach called Reef Road on a "private" island in Palm Beach Florida which requires you to either live at a million dollar mansion there or own a jet ski or boat. That mitigates crowds somewhat but New Smyrna north towards the famous Daytona beach area is accessible to all so the crowds there are the same as in L.A. I won't paddle out when it's like that. Unfortunately it's getting more like that everywhere - Costa Rica, Bali, Australia. You have to go to Namibia or Ecuador or Scotland to escape crowds these days but L.A. is pretty extreme.

The water never warms up like it does over here though, huh? You get 89 degree water on the outer banks almost every summer. Makes me appreciate the Gulf Stream. Hahaha

damn, I'm so happy where I live seeing this mess...no crowds/localism, year round chest/head high waves and clear warm water. Definitely not the biggest and best, but fun and relaxing with the odd pumping groundswell, so i'll take it anyday over this. Only problem is sourcing equipment i guess. California has such a huge coast, so i would assume tonnes of great breaks, so is it that there really are SO many new surfers or is it more that most surfers are clustered together in certain areas of the coast etc? I don;t get it, I'd rather drive 2 hours to a nice non crowded break, then again I don't know much about Cali so just wondering

The El Porto effect has hit many other spots worldwide. Uluwatu is mostly a clustering of chaos. Many lightly traveled spots in Sumbawa are inundated with with the low skill clueless. The Mentawais are absolutely packed. Traveling up North to Simeulue is a wast of time, as it is crowded with folks who saw youtube video of surfing in their land locked country and decided the surfer life was for them. Surfing is no longer dominated by meatheads or highly evolved spiritualists - Surfing is mainstream. Everyone surfs now and the very thing that surfers sought to get away from is now permanently installed in the line up
