Pure Surfing Chaos in LA
Спорт
New swell brings pure CHAOS with it to El Porto beach.
The good news... a mediocre swell finally hit. The bad: everyone was jonesing for waves and paddled out together.
Thanks for watching! I'm Brad Jacobson and I'll sea ya on the sand.

Looked like a great day. To get back in the car and drive home.
Overcrowded spots are not even worth going in. I always end up going down the beach even if the waves are worse just so I don't have to compete with 5 other people for the same wave.

Tech nerds suck! They always ruin everything.
The amount of people surfing hardboards these days that clearly should still be on foamies is mind blowing and extremely scary at the same time...

Someone should set up a ding repair stand on the beach. These guys are nuts🤣
this vid is like one of those movies you catch on TV it's so bad it's good and you have to watch it
Hey! Man I love the style of your videos. Growing up in the 80s I would watch old surf movies from the 60s and 70s because it was really all I had beside the magazines. I can definitely see the influence in your narration, especially the humorous bits. I dig it! Anyway, hope you see the comment.
Choas!!!!😅😅😅 looks like a surfing course for beginners. Either way, looks like they're having fun 🎉
In just a few clicks, these videos have quickly become my favorite thing to watch as I lay in my comfy bed on the east coast.
It was painful 😂
i miss the good 'ol days where you were excited to have someone out to share the waves with. too bad this is the direction things are continuing to go. surf trip time!!
Drop knee on the Wavestorm 😂

this spring been so bizarre in socal
Thanks for the laugh b-rad.
Haha dude that’s insanity!
Almost everyone out there looks like they should be riding higher volume boards…
love to see all the Costco boards, lol
I saw you out there yesterday but couldn't get a parking spot close to the front of the lot (Edit: NVM I was on dawn patrol but saw a guy filming) but literally the whole lineup cheered when a wavestorm caught one of the outside waves when there was a mega lul in the waves
What kind of camera set up do you use ?
Cue the jaws music 😂
haha the thumbnail is funny and cool
Kooktown USA! Surfs up brah!
There's a beach called Reef Road on a "private" island in Palm Beach Florida which requires you to either live at a million dollar mansion there or own a jet ski or boat. That mitigates crowds somewhat but New Smyrna north towards the famous Daytona beach area is accessible to all so the crowds there are the same as in L.A. I won't paddle out when it's like that. Unfortunately it's getting more like that everywhere - Costa Rica, Bali, Australia. You have to go to Namibia or Ecuador or Scotland to escape crowds these days but L.A. is pretty extreme.
Looks like El Porto is now El Kooko
Partyyy Waves😊🏄🤙
All I need is a cool buzz and some tasty waves and I'm good!
So glad this isn’t my local break. What a mess
Typical springtime in the south bay
Didn’t see a single one of them all winter 🤔

Are you in a trd pro 4runner?!
Wow only two skilled surfers, welcome to Florida! 😂😂
I asked a lifeguard driving by Lowers one crowded day how more people don't get hurt down there on a daily basis and he turned and looked at me- "I HAVE NO IDEA!" he says. It was Jeff Kramer if you know who that is, San Clemente legend. like 20 something years ago btw.
El Porto looks more like the Barn Yard!
On days like this me and my friends just drink a bunch of beers and then we go out with no intention of surfing but just to mess with people and get in the way and then play dumb.
Looks exactly like Pacifica 🤣🤣🤣. EXACTLY like Pacifica
Every time there's a swell where I live here in Japan (Shonan area of Kanagawa), this is what it looks like, if not worse... don't think I'll ever get used to it LOL

Normal winter temps in LA OC beaches
This makes me appreciate the marginal lefts I scored by myself on Sonoma County the other day. The water temp was 48 degrees so maybe that kept the crowds down.

Yikes! I’m old, I like 70+ degree water, haha. I had plenty of cold sessions in my teens, twenties, and thirties. If I can’t do a 3/2 with no boots I’m not going. 49 degrees is pushing it. The water never warms up like it does over here though, huh? You get 89 degree water on the outer banks almost every summer. Makes me appreciate the Gulf Stream. Hahaha

KOOKY!! 🍪
This is a good equivalent to all the fun things humans enjoy. Can't see the sights cuz too many people in the way; lining up for an hour to buy a meal from a truck; paying $100's to attend music festivals and being OK with standing a half mile away from the bands on stage...
pure kookorama
10,000 gumbies sprawling...
Not many future world champions here.
Yup, that's the El Porto I know.
What I noticed in the footage of the large amount of low skilled surfers with technique and etiquette . Yes you will have a certain amount of novices in the water but this seems to be like a surf camp model with no direction . Chaos as you perfectly stayed .
My shoelaces were stolen in that parking lot.
damn, I'm so happy where I live seeing this mess...no crowds/localism, year round chest/head high waves and clear warm water. Definitely not the biggest and best, but fun and relaxing with the odd pumping groundswell, so i'll take it anyday over this. Only problem is sourcing equipment i guess. California has such a huge coast, so i would assume tonnes of great breaks, so is it that there really are SO many new surfers or is it more that most surfers are clustered together in certain areas of the coast etc? I don;t get it, I'd rather drive 2 hours to a nice non crowded break, then again I don't know much about Cali so just wondering

Crowds bug. Thanks for the content tho!
Nothing about that looks fun.

I call these the covid surfers
Even filming this must've been frustrating
i cannot beleave it
You have to suck and start somewhere. I love that there is one shredder guy out there sticking out like a sore thumb with his light colored wetsuit.
Dear surfing industry, happy now?
French guy in white wetsuit ;)
kooks galore
all the "work from home" transplants from NoCal session....
King Lamb for mayor
1990s was the last of the best for surfing
I really would've just did yoga on the beach cause ain't no way.

Leashes and wetsuits are great, however they also make surfing accessible to anyone all year long.
Barnes and noble
At 4:45 someone almost got a longboard to the head
So many Covid surfers
Hard to keep up with proper surfing ettiquette with conditions like that.
surely weekday mornings would be less crowded due to people being at work? 🤔🤔

I just gotta ask WHY?
Oside born n raised. Seems to me the problem has been social media. Every kook just wants to take the 10am "dawn patrol" selfie. 😂😂

twice as many as last year, half as many as next. Get used to it.
Most are learners than can barely stand. If I see that I would save myself to have to rinse the wetsuit after the shitty sesh. No way I'd get into the water
thats like your average”good” surf day in Florida

when it does break here, it's never ever that crowded, ever lol
Beginners are nothing new. What's new (like 25 years) is surfers crowding garbage surf, and all paddling for the same waves. Don't know where that came from. We knew "one man at a time" as kids without being instructed.
@botaccount3449

New era now. Same at my break when it gets good. Literally people paddling AFTER me down the beach,” like why? Just leave me alone, you dont want these waves”
When it gets like this it's time to do something else.
It's exactly all I HATE about surfing...
Crazy why do so many go there the surf looks terrible even

You'd probably be better off body surfing the tubes on the inside.
Hawaii is the same now too: kooksville 24/7, everyone, “surfs”. The rules are gone. It’s a wholly tolerant, inclusive, NON counterculture, sport, now for the nerds and activists of the world.
Why? Just...why???
Looks like people knew it was sh!t and ridiculously overcrowded so they just tried to make the best of it. Nothing wrong with that.
Look at the boards these fools are riding! Lol
Did you really film yourself for the intro while driving 🤦
Why couldn’t these people take up golf instead
I used to live right up the street from El Porto, in El Segundo. I rarely surfed there because most of the time the surf sucked. The same could be said for the surf in SoCal in general. Yes, the surf can get great but there are long droughts in between. I've taken up other sports.
man I was cringing lol. No F's given lol
Only one rule in surfing and that’s don’t snake anyone. All these beginners were never taught anything, another reason localism is coming back.

Snfl.....surf Nazi,s for life!!!
The El Porto effect has hit many other spots worldwide. Uluwatu is mostly a clustering of chaos. Many lightly traveled spots in Sumbawa are inundated with with the low skill clueless. The Mentawais are absolutely packed. Traveling up North to Simeulue is a wast of time, as it is crowded with folks who saw youtube video of surfing in their land locked country and decided the surfer life was for them. Surfing is no longer dominated by meatheads or highly evolved spiritualists - Surfing is mainstream. Everyone surfs now and the very thing that surfers sought to get away from is now permanently installed in the line up
This is so embarrasing to watch. OMG! Surf stoke, out of control. Clueless! Don't bring this to my beach, it won't go so well!
This is the result of commercializing surfing...the WSL picked up where Gidget left off... But hey I'm not jaded I milked the surf industry like a swollen utter. How else would I have been a "pro surfer" from age 18 to mid 30's( late 1980's forward) avoid having to "get a job" proudly smoke weed all day every day, party and travel, have tons of sick clothes and surf equipment, connections at heavy and/or localized surf spots around world, free places to stay, VIP concerts, "pro ho's" and cheap drugs at my disposal everywhere I went..thank you for the ride Corporation Surfing... hahaha
