My grandfather had a gen 1 Cummins dully(5 speed also). I have very fond memories of sitting beside him driving that beautiful truck. I wasn't able to grab it before he gave it to my aunt for there farm. I will continue to look for one!

They are great trucks and very fun to drive..especially the 5 speed!

One of the best engines the Cummins ever made!! Fantastic for towing and pulling heavy loads! Even much more reliable and they run forever!! Loving the sound of the 5.9 12v and I couldn’t stop smiling and felt relaxing listen to the sound of this pure Cummins!♥️♥️😍

Sounds awesome! I was just checking out my truck on a local railroad cam playback after having the exhaust modified! Cummins are the best sounding diesels!! 9:32 , I'm sad now.

They sound wicked don't they...and this truck is pretty much bone stock too. It has a muffler and a resonator on it...makes me want to go back to a straight pipe and get some better sound recordings.

@@OvensGarage Absolutely go to a straight pipe if local laws allow. No muffler needed in my state and when the pipe cracked in front of the muffler, I deleted it. When the pipe cracked at the differential, I cut it back and went tip down under the bed. My wife can literally hear me taking off at the light 1 mile away!! Maybe I can get another clip of my truck at the rail station and link it here if that's okay. Thumbs up!!!

That's the VE pumped 12 valves for ya! I also rebuilt the starter a number of years ago and it works great.

It's addictive! I should make an update video since I changed the turbo since this video, it sounds way cooler.

we do like the POV driving with dedicated engine sounds. The only thing is these are niche videos so they will take some time to gain views. Dont fret this type of videos also fall under #ASMR and thats BOOMING. Dont put music or the radio on. Just the natural sounds of the truck And im assuming you are changing gears that much because the gears are short

Yes. Assuming that's the Getrag 5 speed gears are short depending on axel ratio. In mine, 3rd gear is good only to 24 mph (37 kph) and 4th gets you up to 45 mph (72 kph) and my fifth has a top speed of 80 mph (128 kph). This gearing is good for pulling but not going fast. I rarely go above 65 mph (102 kph)

V8s are actually the smoother engines, and why Ford and GM went that way in their pickups. People confuse an I6 being perfectly balanced with smooth power, but 90° V8s are also perfectly balanced. Each rotation of the engine on a V8 is 4 pulses, 3 for the I6. I absolutely love both, and am building a 12 valve right now. But the 7.3 we have is definitely a smooth running engine, and IMO has the better sounding idle. Detroit 2 stroke idle for the I6, V6, and V8 engines are my absolute favorite though, but Ford IDI and 7.3 PSD are damn close. The old Massey Ferguson 1155 V8s and IH V8s were sweet sounding music too.

I never put one on, but I'm pretty sure a previous owner did. The steering isn't too bad...but maybe I'm just used to it since I've been driving it for 6 years lol.

Just did that to my ‘89 B250 my dad bought brand new. Still operating as one of our service vans for our HVAC/R company, and still my favorite one to take out and about but after feeling how much better the steering is now I have no clue how I even drove the damn thing before!

I believe in this video I had done the intercooler but hadn't installed the new turbo yet..I should do another one this spring with my new turbo it sounds wayyy better.

Shifting to late, best at 1500 to 1800 rpm. Soumds really good for a little 6cyl. Im impressed with the power thesr make for how few cyls they have. Wish they sounded as good as my v8 detroit though. I love my 5.9 but i love my 6.5 even more.

6.5 will stomp a 5.9 in the ground, I own both. Little 6cyl Is 160hp 360cid vs a 396cid v8 at 210hp

did this truck have the getrag 360?

does this truck have a really tall rear gear in it or is traffic just so slow you can use those gears?

The first gear in the trans is built for towing a trailer. It's not necessary to use unless you are towing but it's fun just to row through an extra gear.

@@OvensGarage I know 1st is like super low I just didn't see the speed limit signs originally. In all the driving I do in my 24v 5 speed the only time I'm cruising at 30ish kph / 18mph is in my school parking lot which is 15mph. Cool truck

would love to own a 12v manual, too bad its extremely rare in my country

I usually cruise around 110kmh but max I've had it is maybe 140. It's not comfortable to go that fast. Lol

I installed a 4" stainless diamond eye exhaust turbo back, and it has a muffler and a FTE resonator. I've been thinking about removing the FTE resonator to gain a bit of my sound back. I miss my old straight pipe.. haha. I've got a vid of the install if you take a look through my older vids.

I wish P-pumps started so fast.

I like to make sure that when I shift the rpms don't go below 1000 on the next gear. So typically it'll be around 2000rpm I shift.
