That thermal fuse did not burn out for no reason. The heating cable must be damaged somewhere. This cable consists of two wires, external and internal, similar to a coaxial cable. When the cable overheats, a short circuit is made between these wires, the two resistors start to heat up and then the thermal fuse burns.

I had the exact same problem and also traced it to the thermo fuse in the controller. Mine is also the queen size blanket. I purchased an exact replacement from a mail order electronic supplier in Vereeniging for about R12 and soldered it in, applying more of the white heat sink compound. I took the precaution of moving the good controller to the opposite side of the bed and the repaired controller to my side. When I switched the repaired controller on it worked perfectly but when my wife switched her side on the thermo fuse blew shortly afterwards in that controller indicating a problem was on her side of the blanket. We have only used this blanket for 2 winter seasons.

Hi there I have the same blanket & having a issue where the light comes on but not getting warm. I messured the thermal fuse & it shows 0.2 should I replace.

Hi i tested the thermal fuse and it was good and also checked 240V on the output side of the fuse and it was there. All diodes test good- no other electronics on this one, but i have 4 wires from the blanket and no matter what combination i try i get at min is a few thousand ohms?? does that mean the coils in the blanket have had it as i noticed the little light sometimes come on and not although the blanket did heat , now i get nothing on any setting and no light or warmth on blanket. Howdy! I have the king size one and a queen and the switches are not moving up or down the controllers? Do you have an idea for me? One side of the King works but with major force to get the button to move into position 1,2 or 3. The other side doesn't want to move at all. The queen has both sides not moving on the controller. It's like it stuck!?

I have a Zip brand 3 heat controller that looks like it has all the same components as yours inside but different layout with cables going into each end of the PCB. My problem is the neon only comes on with low heat, it goes off on medium and high although the blanket heats up on all 3 settings. I've cleaned the slide switch contacts, replaced the neon, measured all the resistors and diodes all OK and I can't see much else to check? Does anybody have any ideas please?

Same boat hey. From digging around it seems to be a PTC thermistor. I'm not sure yet where to get one that matches the spec though.

I was wrong before. It's actually a thermal fuse. I found the datasheet for them: www.setfuse.com/product/over-temperature-protection/thermal-cutofftco/axial-shape/h-series.html. I'm struggling to find the exact model but some of the local electrical shops seem to have something similar.

DANGER: YOU MUST USE THERMAL PASTE WHEN REPLACING THE THERMO FUSE ! Dear Jan, nearly cool video, but you forgot the white stuff which has a meaning! I have the same controller with a different blanket sold in Germany. I also found the thermo fuse to be blown and also saw the white stuff you called glue. But it's not so sticky, right? I figured out that it is thermal paste which belongs to the safety system! They want the thermo fuse to blow when the resistors next to it get too hot because of too much current flowing! That could happen due to some short circuit that would overload a part of the blanket that's going to get too hot then and might ignite if the fuse doesn't see the warmth an doesn't do its job!

Thermostat switches on and off as the temperature fluctuate. The thermal fuse blew once the temp reached a certain point and stayed off.

Thermostat controls the temperature. Thermal fuse breaks the circuit if the temperature rises above a certain setting.

Thermostats can go short circuit and so are not a safety device.
