I’ve seen a lot of opinions and that is fine. But the facts are that the cross and whistle happened almost exactly at the same time and the ref had already grabbed the wistle after the corner failed. Not the same. Here, the referee blew as the player was running away from goal. Then he turned on a dime and crossed the ball. Very different situation. The ref had already allowed the attack to continue well into extra time of extra time, so he was in the right to blow the whistle.

I think there should be an unspoken rule (if there's not already) that the final whistle should only be blown in middle of the pitch. If they're actively attacking on either final 3rd of the pitch, play should continue.

Not sure about the added time on added time but you cannot blow the final whistle in that situation. Hadn't even finished blowing the 3rd whistle for fulltime although the first whistle is fulltime, as it is just tradition (1 for starting both halves, 2 for half time and 3 for fulltime).

Number 6 hears the whistle blow right when the cross is taken and doesnt attempt to defend the cross, and starts to slowly walk off the pitch before the goal is scored because he knows the game is over. You can't allow a goal once you blow the whistle and cause the defenders to stop playing.

Because he was under pressure from the Valencia player who screamed at him to blow the whistle. He did so even though the ball was mid-air in a clear attacking situation. The VAR took about 2 to 3 minutes to check a schwalbe from the Valencia player which meant that Madrid should've gotten the time to finish the attack by Brahim towards Bellingham. In the end, you even see the Valencia defender screaming because he witnessed the goal and thought they lost the game.

First seeing something like this, normally the Ref would allow the last attack and it was surprising that he blew while the cross was been made. One would ask the why u allowed the play to do that far then, makes no sense.

He blew the whistle when the ball was in the air, i think his biggest mistake made was not blowing the whistle when the player was facing away from the goal. By him allowing the player the turn and face towards the goal and given the opportunity to cross it is where I can see people's issues.

This commentator has no idea! Every other commentator is saying the opposite that, when he put his whistle in his mouth for the first time he did not blow! Only the second time he blew it and that moment the cross was already happening!

Not comparable because Carvajal intercepted the ball and got a hold of it. Plus it was ended on time, while in the 2nd half he ended the game 30 seconds earlier (counting the 2:15 minutes which he spent on VAR check during extra time)

When I did my ref course they mentioned the case in the World Cup of a ref blowing the whistle after a corner had been taken and goal scored. They told us that you should let the phase of play finish. As it was a corner and didn’t really get cleared but came out of the box the other side of the pitch, in possession of the attacking team. I’d of considered this to be the same phase of play as the corner and let it play out before blowing up.

I’d have problems with it just because the added time should have been more than 7 minutes anyway, this plus the VAR penalty check during the extra time

As a self-anointed body-language "expert", I look at señor Gil Manzano's expression right after blowing the whistle and I see defiance, I am 90% convinced that he's happy/proud of it, the implication being this is just a reflection of referees in the Liga being _mucho cabreados_ (not happy) with Real Madrid for the infamous weekly Real Madrid TV segment reviewing *refereeing errors* . Real Madrid TV is right bringing these errors into the spotlight tough (even if ultimately it might not be the smartest move from a self-interest point of view). The standard of refereeing in La Liga is a problem.

The game was already way past the additional time. The corner was the last 'chance'. Thats already like a favor from the ref.
