We wanted a passage way/stair gate to keep our puppy away from the carpeted area of our house because she kept peeing on it.

I wasn't so sure, but went along with it...
We paid $59.46 AUD for the gate and $12.71 AUD for the spacer set because we have skirting boards. I'm guessing that they sold this as an extra so the box could be smaller. Most people have skirting board so I am at a loss as to why they didn't include the spacers.
Would I recommend this gate? Probably not on balance.
Does the gate work as advertised on the DreamBaby site? Yes apart from the 1 handed operation.
Pros:
Can span larger distances.
Can step over gate if needed without worrying about a hard top of gate.
No bar along bottom of gate, so no tripping hazard.
Has two sets of brackets meaning you can move the gate location.
Cons:
Hard to install correctly for the average person.
Spacers cost extra.
Noisy (But you can eliminate the noise by holding the knob while retracting.
Hard to use for younger members of family.
Needs two hands to operate.
