Such a commitment! 10 to 14+ years of caring for a dog. Wonderful companions - but be sure the commitment is real and long-lasting. I've had 3 dogs now. I'm 76. They, all 3 have been a thread in my life that I am so grateful for. Unconditional love. Just be prepared for how great a commitment it is to adopt these little guys. These children are so lucky to be able to adopt a puppy. Now get out there and go for a walk!!

I’ve been asking for a pupper for 6 years, and a few days ago I experienced heartbreak, something happened with my friend. Then, My mom told me “why don’t we bring home a puppy?” And right there I started sobbing. Like, SOBBING. I thought I was dreaming, and this whole thing was fake. It was such a happy moment for me and in a few weeks we might be bringing home a Orange maltipoo :D

It’s crazy , receiving a puppy creates a very unique reaction in most people, especially women. I think it replicates the feeling of having a child which is completely unique .

Can happen the other way around as well. My Stepmom wanted a dog, but we children were and still are the ones taking care of the dog(s - the first one we got about 15 years ago when we were still in school (my brother 10, my sister 12 and I was 15 back then), and after he died at the age of 13 (he was 5 months old when we got him) she thought 'let's get another one' and didn't even ask us....). We were always the ones who were going to the vet with him, teach him and going for walks and so on. The only thing she does is giving him treats for absolutely nothing, so many actually that we children set him on a diet because he was getting to fat and we forbid her to give him random treats just because he is asking her to (she get's annoyed by him quite easily and he knwos that). This woman is not able to take care of anything, not even herself. My siblings and I love our dogs to pieces, but sometimes it would be nice to just be as irresponsible as she is and stay in bed late instead of going for a walk early in the morning or late at night (she doesn't like to go outside in the dark -__- ) and so on..... Sorry for the long rant XD she annoys me so much. But sadly in most cases it is as you said. Most children are not old enough for this kind of responsibility

I got my puppy a year ago. My grandma is a breeder(she is good whit dogs). It was " my last day whit him"...not. I saw him with a red bow, i did not think of it, i saw my family film, i did not think of it. They Said he was home, i cried alot my hole family cried beacose of me (I cried for like an hour + I was shaking) I wanted him from the first time i met him. Now he is a 1 year old Border Terrier. When i got my dog,we were just at my aunties place, her dogs had puppies, when they were ten weeks my mum just grabbed a puppy, put it onto my lap and said "we're taking the dog" and I was like "What?" And then we left with the puppy and I've had him for a year now
