Puppy Nail Trims

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Having a dog who doesn't stress about regular grooming starts just a couple weeks into life. We keep the nails short to make it more comfy for mama to nurse and so their bones grow with proper alignment. We will continue to trim them and keep them short so they stay desensitized to it.

@@mcrchickenluvr they don't wear gloves out of fear of mama rejecting them, it is a simple sanitary issue to reduce the spread of disease and bacteria. Puppy immune systems aren't fully developed and they are in there cleaning poop, trimming nails, and handling ALL the puppies. It is just best practice to wear gloves at this age. When a puppy fell out of the whelping box, Matt didn't go and put on a glove before rescuing it, but when possible, it is better for all involved.

Take a look at getting a Diamagroove grinding wheel for your dremel. They do not generate heat like sandpaper can. And they fit in the Dremel differently which minimizes vibration. Those are the two things dogs hate about Dremel. They come in different styles and abrasiveness. Make sure you buy the real ones not cheap crud. They last a long time! Have used them on my Rotts and now GSD for years.

BAWLING CRYING over a video of yours I just watched about injuries. I just lost my dog after 15 years. She NEVER showed ANY signs of pain or lethargy, but after an exam the vet said she had several BAD injuries. Her spine was fractured from her jumping, as yours does. She always jumped and ran and plowed into me. She also had her Achilles tendon torn and due to the thickness of her fur you never saw the HUGE lump on the back of her leg. I have cried 😢😢myself sick over not knowing. It's been over a year now and I'm STILL DEVASTATED over her not being here. She was a lab/husky mix and the SMARTEST DOG I've EVER owned. She chose me, and I ADORED HER. 😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤

I beg you for advice regarding my 3 months old basenji puppy. He’s been with me for 5 weeks at this point. So me and the pup get up on the sofa for his afternoon nap. He falls asleep, wakes up and starts biting on a sofa cushion. I have his favourite chew toy at hand, so I give him that instead. He joyfully takes it and bites at the toy instead. As soon as my gaze shifts from him to the tv he starts biting on the sofa cushion instead. Re-introducing his favourite toy (squeeky tennis ball) isn’t interesting any more. He usually shifts attention to me when calling him, but not when biting on the sofa cushion. Little mofo is looking at me and nibbling on furniture. No “normal” methods of getting his attention work at that point, only litterally yelling his name. Then he stops, but that loud yelling scares him. In an instant his ears go backwards and he starts sprinting back and forth on the sofa, trying to reach my hands and bite. In that moment he isn’t exhibiting aggressive behaviour, but evidently my loud yell puts him in a very undesirable state of mind. I tried redirecting with treats, but I don’t want him to learn that chewing on the sofa cushions is a way to get treats. I am spending more than 10 hours a day with him. In that there is at least 2 hours of active play time. About 3x15 mins physical (fetch), and 4-5x 15 mins with puzzle toys with his kibble and a couple of treats hidden in there, which I help him “solve”. Leaving him alone with a puzzle toy doesn’t work at all because he nips the plastic casing off and instead of a piece of kibble or treat he uncovers, he takes that piece of plastic and chews on that instead. He is crate trained and when in his crate he has a couple of different chew toys (like kongs, hard rubber bones etc.) which he can bite on without much supervision. Just to clarify, I don’t care about the sofa cushions at all. The issue is puppy’s safety. Because the cusions are made of fabric which he nips on and then pulls out the threads and swallows them. I also tried not putting him up on the sofa next to me, but then he starts nipping and digging on the carpet. If not that then he runs around the house, searches after anything made of fabric and does the same thing. I guess I would have to remove all the carpets in the apartment, together with all of the towels, clothes, sofa, curtains and laundry and move into a cubicle made of pure white reinforced plastic. Please, any help is welcome, because to be honest I am at the end of my wits here. 🙁

Just my 2 cents. A couple of things came to my mind: A) he is trying to get your attention by doing something that definitely gets your focus (him biting fabric) B) he finds some mental or physical (new teeth) relief/pleasure in biting fabric, or he is just bored.
