Puppy Developmental Stages: Episode 1 | Neonatal Period (0-12 Days)

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Today's puppy developmental stage video focuses on the canine neonatal period and the benefits of Early Neurological Stimulation on future puppy training and performance. Join Uncle Stonnie as he shows off some cool new puppies and talks about the critical stages in puppy development.
The conversation starts off with a little bit of light hearted humor then proceeds to cover ground ranging from down home puppy raising stories to a brief introduction to the military BioSensor program, which later became known as the Super Dog project.
We hope you guys enjoy!

It really baffles me that so many people would argue against doing this type of exercise. Keep up the good work!

    Completely agree Stonnie. I am currently raising two puppies; One is 11 mos and the other 19 weeks. I take them everywhere and socialize the heck out of them ( meeting other fully vaccinated dogs that are friendly, exposure to different climate and surfaces and people) all during vaccination period. I do not wait until the puppies is fully vaccinated to do that. They survived parvo. If we wait, by then too late. A fearful dog happens due to lack of socialization. And lack of socialization oftentimes lead to dogs that are not balanced. You don’t want that. We get puppies because they are a clean slate. You are awesome. Keep doing what you’re doing.

    Something I recommend with the ice pack is letting the puppy find it's way off it, really helps to teach them problem-solving from an early age. So. you can set the puppy on the ice pack and let them find their way off. Seen many other breeders do it and it seems to be pretty helpful! Great video thank you, very cute puppies too :)

    Stonnie, hi! I meant what is the point of sensing the dog to all that. But thank you for getting right back to me. We’re in the process of looking for our 4th Boston. And you’re right, the prices are all over the board. We had 2 Labs early on. They are awesome fun pals! But now that I’m 70, and we have a Cavalier, I’m going for “someone” more my speed. I love your channel. You have taught me so much. I spent a summer when I was 8 yrs, training our Boston Terrier so I could have a circus and show my family. Dogs are definitely a gift from God. Now with all the stuff 👎🏻 going on in our country....I hope we aren’t told there’s a new law prohibiting more than one..... well, (sigh) don’t get me started. Stay well. Then they never give me grief when their claws need trimming. I didn't grow up with newborn dogs, but we had litters of kittens all the time. We couldn't keep our hands off of them. • @marleesp7476
    @marleesp74763 жыл бұрын

    I manage a Therapy Dog Program and plan to get a pup that will hopefully be successful in that career! It is definitely a problem today that breeders want a non-refundable deposit but won't allow visits and insist on selecting a pup for buyers - so people can't screen their pups and are forced to wait until a suitable pup is born, sometimes many months later. Plus - the buyer doesn't know if the pups are really exposed to stimulation or if they are alone in a pen with Mom until they're 8 weeks old. I think I need one of those GSD/Malinois/Dutch pups!

    love your videos Stonnie, really some great advice in there ! i have a couple of questions for you: I have a 15 months old male Beauceron, quite a large, confident herd protection dog. i am still learning how to train him (it's a life time qest!) and by trail and error, i seem to be getting there. i somehow have to be very strong, sharp and firm with him to get reliable (or less unreliable !) responses. nothing like an nice and easy going encouragement or request, like you seem to be commanding your dogs with. it does the job, but would prefer not to have to be so millitaristic in my commands ! i have to sound like the officer in full metal jacket to get the job done :-) ! any chance of this easing out as the dog gets older ? he is really friendly to other dogs and absolutely has to go greet/play with them whenever he spots one. when this happens, he pulls like a tractor to get his ways. any tips on working this problem ? i never saw a Beauceron on your channel, do you have any breed specific tips for this one ? Thanks and keep up the good work ! especially love the episodes where George learns to train protection dogs. very inspiring !

    Say Stonnie, do you got any videos on how to socialize a dog to people? We've got a 4 year old Black Lab/German Shorthair mix who's never really left the farm so she ain't used to other people, she's never bit at anyone or went in to attack but instead barks at them and retreats, once we show her a stranger is welcome she's more calm but still skiddish around them, other than that she's a very well behaved dog.

  • @StonnieDennis

    I should have made that more clear in the video. I'll address it in the next one. Sorry. Basically the premise is the the nervous system develops in response to stimulation (stress). Weight lifting is a good analogy; the act of lifting heavy weight stimulates the body to adapt which results in nervous system recruitment and muscle hypertrophy.

    @@StonnieDennis thanks. I did some research after watching the vídeo and benefits are what you mentioned basically 1. Improved cardio vascular performance. 2. Stronger heart beats. 3. Stronger adrenal glands. 4. More tolerance to stress. 5. Greater resistance to disease.

    @@StonnieDennis this is what happened with the litter I got my GSD/Tervueren mix, she took the size of her father and is huuuuge (atleast in my eyes and compared to males). All the males are big, but my female doesnt fall short from them. The other females are smaller. To be honest I prefer good mixes over a pure bred.
