I like what Punkt is doing with their software. Now they just need a phone with a QWERTY keyboard so basic communication isin't miserable

This is certainly a very big improvement over the pigeon messenger app.

Thanks for sharing. I updated earlier this week. A big miss for me is the lack of support for media playback. Who knows how long we have to wait for them to sort that out. But I’ll gladly take this update.

This augurs well for the forthcoming OS update. Are Punkt finally getting a grip? I hope so.

These videos are great. Does anyone know if there’s a landline or cordless phone that uses a gsm SIM card? I want a second line for the home that I just leave plugged in.

Jose, thanks for your work as always! I am currently using the Mudita Pure and thinking of Switching to the Punkt MP02A. The Light Phone 2 seems like a much better choice but I can't type on Touchscreens at all, I need the physical Buttons. I live in Switzerland, so no need to worry about carriers. Besides those three phones, do you know of any other "luxury" simple phone? As for Features that I need on the Phone, I have very basic needs. No calendar, music player, MMS etc. The Reason why I want to Switch to the MP02 is because of VoLTE, in Switzerland 4G calling and older gets discontinued at the end of this year, only VoLTE left. Another Reason is the extreme instability. I've posted quite a big list of bugs on the Mudita Forum, but none of them got addressed so far. We've had constant updates for the Pure until the End of March. There's no sign of Progress since the 24th of March and we all know they're working on the successor. I think that there won't be much updates anymore until they release their new phone. You can't even buy the pure anymore since march. They stopped producing it. I just don't want a cheap device that feels cheap and has no proper updates. That's why I've been only looking into the Luxury simple phones.

It seems like Nokia feature phones especially 4g feature phones are getting better every year at a point that I don't have to rely on smartphones to use TWS earbuds. I just bought the Nokia 110 4g 2023 as a replacement for my old Nokia 130 2017, a basic but very durable phone with Bluetooth a2dp

Does anyone know which Canadian carrier supports 4G/VOLTE on the PunkMP02? I can only access 3G on Bell. Any fix?

Hello Jose, Thanks for your work. I live in Switzerland and I have now my mind almsot 100% made up, I would rather go with the light phone 2. But... do you think they will implement a pigeon style worldwide texting application in the near future? This for me the only drawback right now, as my girlfriend is in France right now, here land line communication is not available because of the roaming issues, but she has a plan with free data.... I feel this pigeon thing is great for that? Do you think light phone is thinking about this?

I’m really considering getting this phone to replace my iPhone because I love the aesthetic and minimal functionality, but I’m wary after reading so many mixed reviews on it. Do you think it’s worth biting the bullet buying this almost $400 phone or is there too much room for disappointment and regret? What’s your opinion?

I'd say wait until the stabilize and deliver more updates. It's a good contender for sure, but at $400 I'd say a few more updates to show they are really behind the phone would give more confidence. The phone works well for texts, calls, and Signal (with version 2.0). But I'd wait.

Been looking into the light and Punkt. Currently using a palm to type this. I’ve had a Unihertz Jelly 2 as well. I need Signal for work. But I am concerned about just switching to Punkt and not being able to communicate with the signal groups for work. It’s the same signal, all be it different format, as the Smart phone app?

You have access to most features. Group texts are available and easy to use on the Punkt for Signal

There are not a lot of options for that sadly. I'd recommend the Punkt or the Kyocera Dura XE (not mininal though)

Does the MP02 have a regular phone and texting app for daily driver? I use signal as WhatsApp alternative for a few friends and family abroad, not for all my contacts

Hi Jose! Thanks for the video. I switched my SIM card after getting Pigeon was working fine on my MP02. But now it says "SMS messaging is currently disabled. Invite Name to Signal to keep the conversation here." Have you ever encountered this? I have no idea why it worked yesterday with my other sim card.

Thanks for your video! If I were to make a new account of Signal using the same phone number as I am currently using, I take it I would log out of all my current instances. Do you know if I can then connect Pigeon to Signal Desktop?

Yes. No dual connection. If you use pigeon, you can only use pigeon.

you say "text messages through signal" but is it actual texts? Like if someone texts my phone does it show up in signal? or do they also need to be using a signal app to send me a message in that app? The deciding factor for me is to know that if I receive a group text on my phone that I will be able to interact with the group. Does this update help normal group texts work?

They also have to use the signal app. No group text messages outside of the signal app.

Hi I wanted to know if you had a recommendation for a phone if I'm prioritizing privacy. Basically I dont want google/big tech to track me and use my data. The only app other than calling or messaging I would want is gps but I assume that would conflict with my desire for privacy. Anyways kind of went on a tangent thanks

I'm confused how texting works. Can you receive group texts with this phone? I don't want to make my friends download any special apps like Pigeon or Signal onto their smartphones only for the purpose of communicating with me, the weirdo with the weird phone.

I wish it wasnt 400 bucks like the light phone i might get the sunbeam flip phone its expensive but not that expensive

They all come unlocked. It should work with Telcel and ATT MX without issues.

When you uninstall Pigeon 1.0 in order to update, did you lose all your texts? If you get business SMS, do those texts get handled by a standard text app or is it all consolidated into Pigeon? If consolidated, how can you tell which messages are E2E?

SMS and Pigeon are separate. When you update, you keep the Pigeon texts after you sign in again in my experience.

@JoseBriones my main dislike for Signal is I lose all texts if my phone gets stolen. Sounds like Pigeon at least backs up to the phone but I still presume the same is true of texts of the phone gets stolen?

You should talk more about real world network support. For example the fact that this phone doesnt work with mint even though they say it doea is way more relevant than any feature. Unfortunately ive learned juat to not trust your opinion when you say a device works on any given network

Idk what you are saying because my Punkt MP02 works with Mint, US Mobile, and Red Pocket. And I'm not the only one. Just because Mint may not work on your area doesn't mean that it doesn't work for others. Research why Mint is doing this in your area, but the Punkt MP02 works with Mint in a good number of areas.

@@JoseBriones Respectfully, it's you that needs to do research. It's missing critical tmobile network bands. I'm not sure if you understand how much of a problem this is. This means no matter where a person lives, they are going to have issues with the phone. Even if it's perfect at home, performance will invariably plummet when they are moving around the world, as people do. This is a fact and something you would know if you knew what bands these devices supported, what bands the network uses and the purpose of each one, and what it would mean to not support each of those bands. I mean isn't this the point of your channel? "Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it won't work for others" is an extremely naive way to look at a technical recommendation that you are making, and that's being generous. Especially when the bands are right there for you to learn about.

Not at the moment. There have been issues with the whole deal because of possible copyright from one of the companies involved in producing the F30. I have it on hold for now.

That's really annoying, having to manually uninstall and then reinstall, and potentially reconfigure applications. Instead of simply updating them in place.
