I agree that each filter has it's spot in the hobby and that sponge filters are the easiest to maintain ect plus if it does act up you really don't have to get super dirty fixing them as it's always going to be the pump that's probably broken. Great job on the video 👍👍 looking forward to the future of the channel. Thanks to you all at Dan's fish for being amazing 🙏👏👏👏

Great chanel. Sponge filters can syphon water from your tank if the pump is positioned below the tank and powers off. A non return check valve will prevent it though 👍

I put my canister filters in a Rubbermaid container under the tank to contain occasional leaks. This have given me enough time to contain and detect leaks when they happen and as you said this is basically a given.

I RUN A CANISTER ON BIG MY 150 AND 75 GALLON TANKS THAT ARE OVERLOADED WITH FISH. THE OTHER TANKS , 2 55 GALLON TANKS I USE FOAM. AND ON THE SMALL TANKS I USE FOAM. IF YOU VASOLINE YOUR O-RINGS WHEN YOUR CLEANING THEM, THEY WILL LAST LONGER. AND REPLACE THEM EVERY FEW YEARS.

Sounds like a good setup to me! I'm never used Vaseline on the o-rings...silicone faucet grease has always worked great for me.

For us guys who have a large fishroom running canister filters is not an option, it would be too costly. I’m running 110 tanks on one pump with all those tanks using sponge filters. Even on 125g. tanks. Fish are in excellent health and constantly breeding so I know I’m doing something right 🙂

Too true. Sponge filters are great for large fishrooms. Gary, do you produce extra fish you want to sell in quantity? If so, please feel free to reach out. I love purchasing fish from hobbyist breeders.

I think I am going to setup all of the above on my current planted tank. Already running ugf. I have all the others around from old tanks. I won’t be reporting back, but this should be fun

I have an HOB and a sponge in my 40g...a lot of water oxygenization and bio filtration. The sponge is on a pump that can run on batteries if the power goes down. I agree though that different filters for different applications.

Depends on what you enjoy in the hobby. You can’t really do an ADA style aquascape with a sponge filter. Not just because it would be unsightly but also because it takes up a lot space inside of the tank getting in the way of the scape. I think sponge filters are great and I would use them if I had a fish room with a bunch of tanks. For me in the hobby I focus on just one show tank.

I currently have a 10 gallon tank, would you recommend a sponge filter or a canister filter? (currently have a sponge filter but have been debating about switching over to a small canister filter)

Hi Dan, why is there no new Hang on Back filters out for small aquariums? 60cmx36x40 or smaller... Tidal 35 would have been nice if it had longer intake tube and slimmer design

Are there really no HOB filters that work on that sized aquarium. There used to be. If not, the market must not have been big enough toc continue production...that's my best guess.
