    Enjoyed your thoughtful and thorough review. Answer to question re racing Half in D2: I raced a half marathon in the D2 after doing training (post injury recovery) primarily in the Velocity 2. This was a perfect combo for me. While I didn’t run a PR I ran pain free. Very excited about that! Two weeks later raced a mile in the D2. I’m loving the V2, D2 combo. I do think training in the V2 post injury was helpful (no plate). Previous year I’d done lots of training runs in the Speed2. I think the daily use of plated shoe was not a wise choice on my part. So happy puma’s V2 is fun for daily and recovery runs. I do track workouts in the D2. Works well !

    Hey Laura! I love this. Thanks for sharing your experience. I knew there had to be runners out there who tried further distances. Awesome work. Also that’s really great to hear about how well the Velocity paired well with the D2. Thanks for your kind words and contribution to the running community here on the channel!!

    The fit is snug but it's really flexible - stretchy enough for my foot, it's comfortable. This shoe is for neutral pronation. Through my experience, Deviate Nitro 2 is comparable with Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 or Asics Magic Speed 3. The plus is it has a forgiving carbon plate and has much more cushion than those two, also more durable (upper, midsole and outsole). I say it's good for Racing if you have Asics Novablast 3 as your Daily Trainer, it's similiar but more stiff and it has racing feel. Or better, if you have more bucks, then Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 can be the best choice as your Race/Speed shoes with Asics Novablast 3 as your Daily Trainer/Recovery Shoes and Deviate Nitro 2 as the second Daily Trainer/Speed if you need a carbon plate felt during your Daily Running shoes. I think Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 has similiar ride feeling with those two.

    i have the brooks ghost and adrenaline and was bored so i got the deviate nitro 2, realised quickly i was way in over my head, this shoe is way too fast for my liking, im a novice runner so this didnt suit me good, it was way faster then i expected, my first run i pr-ed my 5k by 4 minutes, my 10k and my 15k all in one run.... however my heart rate hasnt been so high in all my last 50 runs, even when i was trying to slow my pace it feels like the shoe was pushing me to go faster, i wont return it as i still like it but for me its definitely not a daily, way too springy and fast, also due to me being used to 12mm drop my knees started hurting later that same day, the next morning i still hadnt recovered so i had to really take it slow with my ghosts. awesome shoe by puma i just wish i knew this was for more experienced runners, id like them to expend their line this or next year and make something like a hooka arahi 6 or asics nimbus for someone who needs more support and is more novice.

    I recently raced a half-marathon with this shoe and it felt very comfortable. It wasn't an all out effort but I really welcomed the Pumagrip on the wet roads and it had enough cushioning to look after my legs so no issues getting back on my marathon training. I really like this shoe.

    @@timetorunchannel 10-10.5(USA) range. Definitely 10.5 if it’s a Gore-Tex or a narrow shoe. I tried on the puma deviate nitro 2(size 10US) in the store. It felt like the length was fine. Just a touch, narrow. Size 10 wide would make most sense for the deviate nitro 2. This particular store did not have a 10.5 for me to try.

    @@oneschance That’s unfortunate. No, I cannot find wides on the Puma website anymore or on Amazon. I remember being able to pull up screenshots of the wide. I’m confused why they’re no longer offering them. If it were me I’d buy a half size up. I know you said the length seemed good. It’s a tough call. I hope if you go a half size up they work for you. Truly is a spectacular shoe.

    I've seen a number of reviewers talking about carbon composite vs carbon fibre as though they are different materials bit to my knowledge any carbon plate is always a composite of cf and epoxy resin. To glue the fibres together.

  • @timetorunchannel

    @timetorunchannel

    11 ай бұрын

    Agreed, that was my initial understanding as well. I’ve since come to learn many companies uses “composite” sometimes in polar opposite ways. Which then just begs the question, if it’s the same plate, why would Puma go through the trouble of defining it different on their website?

    I am slightly confused with this (puma deviate nitro 2) shoe. I have one pair of Puma Deviate Nitro 2,it was also my first shoe with a plate in it. its difficult to do easy runs in it because of the foam which is quite bouncy and the carbon plate as it propels you forward .You cannot run too fast like in a race in this shoe because its heavy for a race day shoe.

  • @timetorunchannel

    @timetorunchannel

    Having never run in the SC Elite I can’t speak to that level of detail but categorically and even price-wise they’re not really comparable. The SC Elite is a super shoe and will feel as such. Yes the Deviate Nitro 2 is plated but even the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 is closer to the SC Elite than the Deviate Nitro 2. If someone were to offer me a free pair of SC Elite or to run in my current shoes, from the aspect of performance, no doubt I would run in the SC Elite’s. I’ve done 5ks in the DN2 and they’re great for that but anything at or over a half marathon I’d reach for a shoe designed for those distances, as the SC Elite is.
