I extensively visited & still visit Dhaka & Kolkata . To me ,it was quite different before 80s ,Kolkata was supreme in all cultural & progressive thoughts but now that has changed . Dhaka in the last decade is become a major metropolis with its food , music , economic impact on its looks as the capital of one of dynamically evolving nations . Dhaka looks absolutely stunning as it should as its capital . Kolkata still holds it charm , more like a nostalgia to me , as my family lived in park- circus before 1947 & all my uncles were from Presidency college & dad from St Xavier’s . They loved Netaji & loved that City & I inherited that love too .When we were young the family used to talk about early 30s Calcutta & I am always in love of that place . Love for Kolkata from Michigan vis Bangladesh .....

nazmul haque so u mean to say that kolkata has stagnated while Dhaka emerged victorious in the race,I have not been to Dhaka but I visit kolkata regularly,if what u say is true then the reason behind it could be that eastern India is less developed while other metropolis of India like Delhi Bombay Bangalore Hyderabad has developed immensely

junaid anwar True . Kolkata ,with all its potential lost out to other large cities u pointed out . Again, it never got the glory of pre- British India or once British-India’s capital or the home is India’s Bengal . There is so much energy & intelligence in Bengal & Kolkata & it never seemed to get a grip on either in economic arena or administrative space . Culturally it does have lot to achieve & still has the tremendous potential ! It needs a mentor , a guiding light , fire in its belly , fierce independent thinking & pride & needs inspiration from history or just follow Bangladesh

rubbish idea.a nation can not decide what a person will eat .backward country like us fight over beef pork issue.in the western countries there us no problem .they are far ahead than us for their liberal thinking

পুরনো স্মৃতি মনে করিয়ে দিলেন হিল্লোল ভাই। প্রায় ৩ মাস ছিলাম। ওখানকার খাবার বিশেষ করে স্ট্রীট ফুডের ভক্ত হয়ে গেছি। আমি এখনো অনেক মিস্ করি। তবে ওখানে কিছু সাউথ ইন্ডিয়ান ফুড পাওয়া যায় যা আমার খুব একটা ভালো লাগেনি। কলকাতার বিভিন্ন জায়গায় খাবারের অভিজ্ঞতা আমি ফেসবুকে একটা ফুড রিলেটেড গ্রুপেও শেয়ার করেছিলাম। আর আমার এই কলেজ স্ট্রীটে যাতায়ত বেশী ছিল। পুঁটীরামে তো খেয়েছিই এবং কাছেই অবস্থিত কফি হাউস, প্যারামাউন্ট জুস শপেও গেছি। এছাড়াও কলেজস্ট্রীটে একটা রেস্তোরায় চিলি চিকেন আর ফ্রাইড রাইস খেয়েছিলাম যার স্বাদ এখনো মুখে লেগে আছে।

Radhaballavi was invented at the shova Bazar rajbarhi, Kolkata. It is offered as bhog to their family deity Radhaballav, hence the name. Since its invention it has been quite famous especially in the vaishnava circles. Nowadays it is available all over Bengal. Putiram is one of the famous versions. The accompanying lentil soup is slightly sweet and is made of Bengal gram. The kachuri itself has a filling of mung beans and spiced with asafoetida amongst others. And as you said it is quite addictive. It will be wrong to classify this as luchi, since luchi doesnot have a filling but is a type of puffed up fried dough.

You may be from Kolkata but you simply don't have the experience to make the comparison I am trying to make here ..my Kolkata friends still ask me about places and addresses that they themselves struggle with ha ha

The (dirty and dark) oil used for frying seems to be some used engine/mineral oil collected from an auto repair garage!

Luchi n kochuri are 2 different thing. Kochuri have stuffing inside, but luchi don't have. Cholar dal is slightly sweet in taste. These are pure veggie food. No addition of onion n garlic too.

Adnan Sir, it's called radhaballavi. The spices for stuffing is different from regular dalpoori and special type of Dal called biuli r Dal is used. Also, in Kolkata cholar Dal is always always and always sweetish.

Hi Adnan, nice to see you in Kolkata- my city. only one request i would like to make that if possible give some back ground of the place ( even as voice over) like College Street is famous for it Book Shops - literally it is called "Boi para" in Kolkata also world class Presidency College was right in the corner from where famous alumni-es like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, swami Vivekananda ,famous Poet Michael Madhusudan, Famous Scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose, Film Maker Satyajit Ray etc. passed out. Hoping you know few of them, and according to me sharing few extra details will give some interesting dynamic to your video and specially when you are in historic place like College Street. You are doing a great job and we really like your videos.

According to your explanation.... jessore er 'jolojog hotel and sweets' er dal and luchi er test very similar to that...and always u will find 10-15 people are sitting there and eating dal and luchi...this one is also very old one. Sell usually sweets but u can find dal and luchi from morning to evening.

দাদা কলেজস্ট্রীটে গিয়েছিলেন। আরও অনেক কিছু দেখবার ছিল।কলেজ স্ট্রীটের মূল আকর্ষন কফি হাউস ছিল।দিলখুশা কেবিন কাটলেট কবিরাজি ছিল।আর কালিকার সন্ধ্যেবেলার চপ ছিল,বসন্ত কেবিন এর চা ছিল।এগুলো মিস করবেন না দাদা!এগুলো ও এলাকার ঐতিহ্য!

But ma'am. Radhavallabhi is a dish unknown in Bangladesh. As also, sweetish chholar daal is never sweetish in Bangladesh. In fact the subtle taste of making savoury food sweetish is unknown in Bangladesh. They shun the idea of adding sugar to daal if meat or fish or veggie dishes. In fact I have friends from Bangladesh who make fun of Kolkata cuisine for it eunique feature of adding mellow sweetness of sugar to food. In fact most people in Bangladesh thinks, it's not possible to make a gravy without onion . So such are differences. These should be appreciated as it's a different country from Kolkata, India.

আমি একটা জিনিস খেয়াল করলাম কলকাতার দোকানদারগুলোর মেজাজ কেন জানি সবসময় তিরিক্ষি থাকে। আমি তো বেশ ক'বার গেছি, দোকানদারদের এমন মুড ভাল লাগে না, অস্বস্তি লাগে। এছাড়া প্রায় সবকিছুই ভাল ঐখানকার, পুরোটাই বাংলাদেশের মত। খাবারগুলো একটু মিষ্টি টাইপ হয় এই যা। ☺ #personal_opinion

আলাদা দুটি দেশ, যতই বাংলায় কথা বলিনা কেন সমস্ত বিষয় গুলি আলাদা হবেই সে বাংলা ভাষার উচ্চরন হোক,সংস্কৃতি হোক, খাওয়া দাওয়াহোক,পরিষ্কার পরিচ্ছন্নতা হোক সমস্তই আলাদা আলাদা ।এই ভিডিও গুলির নির্মাতার উচিত ছিল কলকাতায় দীর্ঘদিন স্থায়ী বসবাসকারী কোন খাদ‍্যরসিক বন্ধুকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে তবেই ভিডিও গুলি বানানো তাহলে সর্ষে দিয়ে বানানো কাসুন্দি কে তিনি শুধু "কেচাপ" বলে সম্বোধন করতেন না আর গুড়ের রসগোল্লার ভিতরে ক্ষীরের যে গোল্লা থাকে রসগোল্লা কে বড় করার জন‍্য তাকে ও তিনি গুড় বলে ভুল বুঝলেন,যা হোক কি আর করা যাবে দুটি দেশ আলাদা হওয়ার কারনেই এই সমস‍্যা।সবশেষে বলি আমাদের দেশ ভারতবর্ষ আমাদের কাছে প্রিয় আর আপনাদের বাংলাদেশ আপনাদের কাছে প্রিয় এই নিয়ে ঝগড়া করার প্রয়োজন কি আছে?

ওটা ডালপুরী নয় ওটা রাধা বল্লবী। মটরসুটি আরও কিছু জিনিস দিয়ে হয় এই রাধা বল্লবীর পুর। আর রাজভোগের মধ্যে ওটা গুড় নয়। 😁

Adnan Sir Radhavallabhi is a special kind of Dal Puri. In which the filling is made with biuli'r daal . And spices are special kind of as in mouri or saunf with ginger and it's slightly sweetish. Also Radhavallabhi is bigger than luchi or kochuri. Additionally, chholar daal in Kolkata ( which in Bangladesh is called Boot er daal) is always and always made little bit sweet. Always with hint of ginger and chilli's. Sandesh is made less sweet. That's why you eat Sandesh first. Rajvog has kheer or mawa inside . Plus rajvog is too sweet. Rajvog usually doesn't have Gur. Normally it's kheer of mawa inside with flavour of saffron. Plus beside this shop there's paramount . Which is a soft drink shop serving various sherbet. Also inside college Square park in YMCA canteen, the famous mutton / chicken stew is worth tasting.

Dear Adnan Bhai. I do not know from where you are getting the recommendations to try out Kolkata foodies. but places like Putiram was never heard of. This is a below standard place . most average simple sweet shop in Kolkata. There are plenty of this kind of shops you can find everywhere in Kolkata. Please do some more research before going for a video shoot. There are some real real famous places in Kolkata which you should not miss out. ALL the best for your Kolkata food trip.
