PULLING SEINE WITH LOCALS ON MAYARO BEACH - Traditional Net Fishing In The Caribbean + FISH RESCUE

PULLING SEINE WITH LOCALS ON MAYARO BEACH - Traditional Net Fishing In The Caribbean + FISH RESCUE
#netfishing #traditionalfishing #caribbean
Last weekend I made a trip with the family to spend the day on Mayaro Beach. As luck would have it, as soon as we pulled up to the beach, I saw a seine being pulled. I grabbed my breakfast and rushed down to see what was happening.
I was just in time to see the net starting to come up...I joined in with local fishermen and helped getting the net up on shore...
The catch this day was not the best, but I think they got enough to make some money and feed their families. I did my part my rescuing as much of the by-catch as possible. Mostly stingrays and also one very unique fish, that I have never seen before!
Hope you guys enjoyed watching! Please share with anyone you think might enjoy! Fish On!

Do find many Bonefish in these Nets? Seine Netting in St. Croix was one of the reasons the Bonefishery disappeared for decades here. Used to ruining the nets and fishermen would throw them up on the banks to reduce their numbers and save their gear from tearing. Now its the most sought after fish our Clients request (along with Tarpon!) I know there are some Giants in Trinidad and Tobago … folks still eat them or do they release them? Awesome video! Love that you release some of these fellas but still can provide quality food for the locals!
