Just remember they're always empty of valuables and if they ever did contain anything of value you'd have to hand it over to the police. That should make it easier to leave all the safes behind.

You guys need a wood ramp with a pvc or plastic sheet on the river facing side to make it easier to slide safes. It would need to be at least 1 meter wide and 2 meters deep. Different types of hankering but I suggest 2 to 4 eyelets on the edge of the deck to attach cords or steel rodes with hooks directly on the ground or cords attached to trees or a car close by. The corner where cords or straps will rub it is good to find a very smooth piece of plastic like UHMW if my memory is good. Basically the green plastic that goes under skateboards resistant to lots of friction. It is possible to make it in 2 sections so easier to carry and more practical for using only half. Probably around 100$ in materials

I would suggest a collapsible plastic bucket and a collapsible strainer, so mud from safes, etc. can be poured into the strainer, and water from the canal can be poured over, trapping any large items in the strainer. Since they fold fairly flat, they wouldn't take up much storage space.
