Seriously a great video. No BS, no talking about nonsense through half of the video before getting to the point. You went straight to the point of the video. Thanks

You deserve a beer. I'd been struggling for 1/2 hour using wrenches, don't even bother trying to do this by hand . Impact gun done in 2 minutes. Thanks for the video.

My pulley decided it was bored with my commute and exited the vehicle about halfway home, taking the serpentine belt with it. It left behind the collar that press fits onto the shaft though, kind of as a parting shot. Bought this puller kit on the strength of this clear video. Glad I did, as the mfg seems to be above minutiae like including instructions.

Necroposting for anyone looking this up: DO NOT put your pulley in a vise, it's too easy to crack or break it, especially the plastic ones! Ask me how I know. I was able to put one wrench on each of the nut and bolt features on the pulley tool to easily keep the pulley from turning. And if you find a thrust washer of the right size, it will stop the puller when you reach the end of the shaft (typically you install the pulley flush with end of shaft).

Wow thanks for the video ! I bought an astronaut 7874 kit from Amazon. I was stuck on installing the pulley on the new pump. I think I was doing it wrong so now I'ma give it a try the way your doing it. Btw I'm working on a 02 Ford Taurus

Was not sure I was doing this right so I wanted to e sure. Thank you for the quick video confirmation and if I was wrong it would have been simple to correct what was wrong. My pulley had to be removed and installed on the car because Chevy puts the compressor bracket over the power steering pump on the early 2000 S10's.

I've been thinking of doing a youtube video on cars since I started doing repairs on my Bimmer myself. Have you done all these repairs before you needed to in the vehicle and come up with a script first or did you record yourself doing the steps first then think of commentary later? Really cool that you started as a car repair channel gives me more of a reason to follow you. I look forward to future repair videos too man.

Before you crank that pulley completely flush make sure it's the exact same depth as the original pulley that was on the original pump pump otherwise you're going to get an awful lot of squealing and that means premature belt where in your future

Great video. There are a lot of bad reviews on that tool. Has yours held up ok? I like that you use antiseize on the bolts. Thanks

I've f9und that because the two halves that clamp over the ridge are two small for the ring you slide over them to keep them in place. What happens is that it creeps enough from the very beginning that it gets very cooked. To eliminate that, I just omitted the ring and held it together with one hand while I snugged it enough to get all the play out and set firmly in the right position. From that point, it was just a matter of tedious quarter turns until it popped off. I was concerned at first whether or not the tool would work, as my pulley was not intact, but the ridge was there and it was pretty uneventful once I quit assing around and dug out the correct wrenches. 21mm open end and ratcheting 12mm box end is the best combo. No longevity problems seen after a single use. I imagine if you are prone to cross threading and can't be bothered with anti seize you might be able to screw it up. I haven't really looked closely at the bearing, but it's probably a good idea to slap some grease in it to prevent condensation causing rust.

Is antiseize a standard practice at car shops? I literally never heard of it until watching your videos and I did a lot of repairs on my own vehicles over the years.

Yes it is. However, I caution you to learn about what it is and it's proper application before using it. It's a lubricant as well as an anti corrosive compound. It will drastically effect torque value on a fastener so only use it if the application calls for it.

@@glenj.taylor2938 I had a BMW that was what I learned to work on cars on and not a single repair on any of the forums I went to or youtube videos said to use antiseize. Only WD40 if stuffs rusted on

Doesn't work that way when the pump has to have the mounting bolts attached BEHIND the pulley so the pulley goes on LAST. A vice doesn’t come into play at all

So you didn't actually "do this job" You bought a mounted pulley, and went through the motions... But you didn't do any "work in a car" Once it's been attached to an operational car for 24 years... THEN do this and we'll talk. You made a helpful video. Thanks. But you did none of the rest of that
