Puget Sound King Salmon Jigging

Спорт

In this award-eligible video, I explain when it's good to jig for kings opposed to troll with downrigger. Watch and be amazed as I battle not 1, not 1.5, but TWO kings! Chinook salmon fishing! #pugetsound #kingsalmon

    Thanks for the video. Just to share a couple of thoughts from nearly 50 years of jigging for salmon: I haven't found anything that beats a BuzzBomb; a line counter reel really comes in handy; if you're exploring for kings where they aren't congregated (usually the case) jig about three feet off the bottom. Like you, I like iridescent tape on my BuzzBombs, darts, etc. Gary Northrop

    That was awesome man, super educational. I'm not a big fan of down rigging. It's a little boring and I hate the constant noise from the engine and fumes from the exhaust. Don't get me wrong, I have and will continue to use them in the future but jigging/casting is way more entertaining. Nothing beats the feeling of pulling up the rod and the big pull back. Well, maybe spearing a fish does but jigging is a close second haha.

    Really enjoyed this…love jigging but rarely get the chance. A few questions for you….ever run a barrel swivel from the split ring to the hook? Maybe not because the hook would need an open eye and that scares some people off…just would like to know your thoughts. Also, could not quite tell your snap/swivel setup to the jig. Could you please elabarte on that set up. Last, your reel was not a line counter, any reason why? Well, one more. Type of tides that you prefer to jig in? Guess would 1 hr before, 1 hr after tides with less variance. Thanks

  • @WAFishQuest

    @WAFishQuest

    The public shoreline options are not good. "Luhr's Landing" has a tad of shoreline assess. The river itself has "handicap" hole. But that's probably a half mile up river. There's also Tolmie State park, but it's pretty far off the Delta and not really a good place to fish (some people clam there).

  • @WAFishQuest

    @WAFishQuest

    Жыл бұрын

    This is somewhat nebulous advice but, the areas I jig tend to be where they're sort of staking up before they head up a river. Sometimes it's near a mouth, sometimes it's 10 miles away. A somewhat frustrating element is they don't always stack up the place every year. For instance my favorite flat this year was barren. A popular jig fishery is fish trap in Olympia. Popular jig fisheries are easier. You can observe what the other boats are doing and copy their depth. Or start near shore, and do a drift, then go out another 20 feet and drift again. Getting deeper (or you could do it in reverse and go shallower) until you find the fish's lane. Hope that was somewhat helpful!
