Thank you for your comment. Though I have no knowledge of the Japanese language, I learned Chinese in high school, and some words caught my attention. 悪党感 - Thomas Hampson has never been good enough to sing opera's notorious villain, Scarpia. Nevertheless, Piotr Beczała alone makes this performance worthwhile to watch. 照明 - The majority of videos produced by Wiener Staatsoper have a serious issue with lighting. Yet, this opera house is more lenient in allowing their videos to be uploaded on KZread. Bayerische Staatsoper is equally lenient but poses a different issue: ugly staging! Check out my uploads of 'Il Trovatore' and 'Semiramide' and see the viewers' complaints despite the great singing. 最近経費節減 - I agree, the recent cost-cutting has no doubt affected the quality of production and significantly reduced the enjoyment of viewers. I have videos with more traditional staging and costumes; however, they are all blocked on YT (e.g., ROH, Met, etc.). KZread is the best platform to reach a great number of people, but there are many restrictions. I hope you understand my dilemmas.

thankyou I understand your comments
Thank you! We love the traditional staging and costume. It's far more effective than those awful contemporary productions!
This is very truthful staging and loyal to Puccini's desire and intentions. So many productions of Tosca out there where staging and costumes are anything but what the plot and story requires. Radvanovsky, Beczala and Hampson are on point here, although at times I feel Hampson is not fully suited for Scarpia. I feel he is not convincing at times.
Owacje mówią same za siebie! Jestem dumna, że mamy takiego wspaniałego śpiewaka. Tosca też ma piękny głos. Wykonanie świetne!! DZIĘKUJĘ!
Those high C’s surge out like a laser beam! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! 🌹🌹🌹
Admirable TOSCA avec une telle distribution !
Thank you for the English subtitles. It was enjoyable, and overall well done. To the original play as filmed, I understand "mood lighting" but the stage was too dark!
Thank you again for your work that you share here for free.
Maravillosa en cuanto pueda
A beautiful work! I sometimes get this one mix up with Madam Butterfly. I guess it's the dramatic music.
❤ Идеально...
What a star-studded production! Beczala and Radvanovsky are superb. I don't feel Hampson is menacing enough, though. Is it the silly white wig?

Indeed .Hampson is a to "liric" baritone for Scarpia.
After "O dolci mani", Floria tells Mario to do this during the mock execution--or he dies trying. According to Tosca, at the exact time the volley of shots by the firing squad go "bang! bang! bang! bang!"--Mario must fall down to the floor immediately and stay down until the firing squad goes away.
After the encore of 'E lucevan le stelle,' approximately 3 minutes of the video had to be removed due to copyright issues. I hope viewers understand the situation. 😅

Thank you so much for posting this wonderful video. I wonder why do you have to remove the 3 minutes due to the copyright? i do not get it but your hard work is greatly appreciated

"E Lucevan Le Stelle" is a heavily used operatic aria by a lot of pro opera tenors, and a lot of them had been recorded and - sadly - copyrighted. That is why they had to mute 3 minutes of it. Sorry. :( :(

I got it. The muted part due to copyright refers to Tosca arriving at Mario's cell, and Tosca tells Mario the brief story of how she got out permanently from Scarpia's lust-filled love for her...ending with something like "I saw the knife, concealed it, and as he finished the safe-conduct writing and was about to fall into my arms---I stabbed Scarpia in the chest...he fell and died. Scarpia is no more!"
If this is a movie about this famous Puccini "verismo" opera, I would say this trailer...... "Mario Caravandossi, a revolutionary, is out for something. He meets up with prison escapee, Angelotti, at a church, and eventually Mario tries to abet his escape. But there is an omen for both of them which can mean doom to them--the butcher of Rome, Baron Scarpia. He discovers Angelotti's escape and fires a prison cannon to warn both of them of trouble for them soon. Angelotti decides to get out, and so does Mario. Floria, a gifted church singer, eventually gets a love-interest with Mario later on, and then, as Mario is caught, interrogated, and tortured by Scarpia, Floria eventually gives in by Scarpia's threats, falls in love for a short time, and eventually, Mario is arrested and condemned to be put to death in jest. Will Floria save Mario from death in a risk-taking move? And will Mario and Floria get out and eventually seal their love? With powerful music by Giacomo Puccini, welcome to the most dramatic "verismo" love story of all opera----Tosca!"

O superb production and singers! Thank you. My only wish, as with all operas, is that atmosphere disrupting applause is left to the end and a minute's pause even then, not after every familiar aria and shouting "bravo" at a soprano which should be brava, anyway. Callas loathed having to hold the character during the noise.

The definition of spoiled.
I respect every artist, and I'm aware that many of them sound differently live BUT-I don't like Sondra's vibrato and Scarpia is not a role for lyric baritone which Hampson is
The tenor is World class. Where do I buy this recording?

The Vienna Opera House seems to have serious lighting problems. Almost all the videos produced by the house are quite dark.

Pure Tosca mi pare un po' troppo vecchiotta per essere così"ambita" sia da Cavaradossi che dal barone Scarpia
As far as one could see through the murk, that may have been the least authoritative looking Scarpia in the history of Tosca! Tremble? Rome went to sleep!

Yes!! I don't quite understand why Hampson sang this role. All the other roles, even the secundary ones, are incredible.

Interesting that so many comments address the staging sets costumes, I suppose because that wasn't much to say about the singing. Which was slow, ponderous and awful. Do these people listen to themselves? To the glories that was opera in the early days of recording....Shame, crying shame.
Soprano not a Tosca..and Mr Thomas youre far too handsome to be a scarpia. And your voice not that evil tone yet..
Hampson inascoltabile! Uno Scarpia fiacco, inerme, inespressivo e soprattutto poco autoritario quindi poco credibile!!!! Davvero ridicolo...
