Thank you for this very helpful explanation I can now make my creations available for my friends, For my own use I import the DDS height map from a list of workshop files that I like and create new maps making changes in terrain editor similar to what you do, I just imported one into the Desert DLC added my custom settings for rocks and painted in the right trees and oases (hopefully they will allow the right trees to be selected in the fill map selection tool for each DLC one day) Cheers 🙂

Ty for the feedback. The sky is the limit when it comes to creating maps. When I have a quiet moment, load up the terrain editor, use the random map option to see what turns up. It was such a random map that formed the basis of my Five Points Map.

Thank you for doing this. I am very interested in map making and have several ideas, but have no idea how to do it for WR:SR

TY for the support. Made my first map out of curiosity, now I am often thinking about a theme for a new map. :))

What are the dimensions of the base map? If I want to create a map in a graphics editor, I would need to know how what the height and width is to create my image.

Good question, never measured it. Think it is in the range of 22 - 25 km square. If planning to import a real-life terrain map it is not a one to one, so would recommend selecting a larger area then see how it fits. Then use an graphics editor to adjust the size/selection area until it looks realistic. There is an upload limit (think it is 2 Mb), have found using a 2048 X 2048 image size keeps things under control.

@StephenSilverbeard thank you so much for this. In past maps I have used diffusion clouds and Wilbur to create really nice looking maps (Wilbur does the water erosion simulation), although the way WR handles water, you can't really simulate water coming down from high to low elevations for realistic rivers.
