Public Image Ltd (PiL) are an English post-punk band formed by vocalist John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), guitarist Keith Levene and bassist Jah Wobble, with frequent subsequent personnel changes. Lydon is the sole constant member of the band.
Lydon emerged after the break-up of the Sex Pistols with PiL's Public Image: First Issue (1978). His new band had a more experimental sound: Wobble's "droning, slow-tempo, bass-heavy noise rock, overlaid by Lydon's distinctive, vituperative rant". Their early work is often regarded as some of the most challenging and innovative music of the post-punk era. Their 1979 album Metal Box was ranked number 469 on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The NME described PiL as "arguably the first post-rock group".

Ahhhh That we have John McGeoch recordings ..... to many greats; martyrs to the piss.
His passion, I think that would be the right word, after all these years, is really quite impressive. I was expecting this video to be a shambles, yet it shocked me with his sustained ability. Hat tilted.

I recently heard Die Toten Hosen with their song "ist dass noch punkrock?" (Can you still call that punkrock?) and the bright sound and production perfectly underlined what Lydon always said about the Pistols: that they were too conventional. "Never mind the bollocks" is a very raw sounding record, worlds apart from what punk currently is, With PiL Lydon was making a big statement, both lyric wise and music-wise taking it as far as possible from what the Pistols stood for.

Khatia Shiuka Dear Lady, to thee extent ov my knowledge, PIL stands for : Public image, limited (at their beginning, when they came to Paris, France, they even translated this into : " Image publique, S.A. ", which means thee same in french ). So , yuh are right, or , at least, could be _ but, I could be wrong !..
