Pt. Nikhil Banerjee is to my mind the purest Sitar player. The divinity that floats from his music is unparalleled. Since he wasn't a showman, other names circulated in the music world in India and abroad as representing the best in Indian Classical music. To my mind he was the real purist, not trying to cater to western audience. I am blessed that he selected Sitar from Calcutta for me. This perticular rendition of a most pansive melodious raag is one of his best

always the best. i chose sitar as my instrument of study many years ago, yet nowadays i find less pleasure in listening to it. Banerjee always does it “right” in my opinion…a very sincere musician, always trying go dig farther. so melodic and tasteful, yet superb technique. GOAT

Yet another masterpiece from Nikhil B. Music from and of soul as always. No gimmics, no sare egara matre ki tal. Simply a touch of heaven.

who on earth told you that saade gyaraah maatre ki taal is gimmicks? talk sense on public platforms. Yes this recording and Nikhil da are divine. but people who play such complex taals can also make divine music.

Thanks to Subrata Choudhury for uploading and superb recording quality. What about a Lalit in same quality. One that I have from Dover Lane with Zakir on tabla is big but poor recording disables enjoyable listening. Another one from a commercial co is a disservice to this great artist as recorded in a thin cheap disc sounding like a tin can!

যার বাজনা শুনে মানুষ এমনিই মোহিত হয়ে যায় তার দরকারই বা কি দেখনদারি করার 😊

উনি তো দেখছি জোরে জোরে ডান হাত দিয়ে স্ট্রিং টানার আওয়াজ করতেন না যেটা বর্তমান শিল্পী রা করেন......, তাও আমার মতো অজ্ঞানী শ্রোতাদের ওনার সুরই স্বর্গীয় বোধ হয়..... অজ্ঞানতা ক্ষমা করবেন।
