Built this kit last year, it's more than sufficient for most needs, hasn't let me down once. Battery drains fast at highest power assist levels, but I rarely use them. I manage to reach about 30-33mph on the 3rd level with some peddling along. I only use higher power assist with hills / bridges, as my cadence gets uncomfortably fast above 35-36mph. Perhaps I should replace my front sprocket for a bigger one. Consider it a speed pedelec kit, it behaves in a similar way, with similar speeds & acceleration, only with the option of a thumb throttle (and cruise control apparently). Best lockdown project I've done!

Hub drives have about half the torque for the same power as mid drives which is why people say they can't get up hills, however the 55nm my 1000w 48v kit makes gets me up any hill no effort, maybe sometimes a little pedalling to take some strain off the motor

48v 20ah battery will power a 2000w for about 30 mins at full power, so will go probably about 15 miles. At a lower power (generally apeaking you'll use about 750-1200w on your rides) it will go around 30ish miles.

Nice one - although I don't agree 100% with all that you present - hub drives work just fine - I picked up a cheap 2nd hand bike with an inframe / inbuilt battery 36v - and 250w rear hub motor and no throttle only PAS. That extra assistance got me powering through mud puddles and boggy terrain with ease - I have been mountain biking for many years and have never had so much fun and ease plowing through normally tough and long mud bogs even with mixed 50/50 dirt/road tyres. Hill wise very useful but I did have some issues in icy conditions on mid hill starts because the backend kept slipping out as I needed to spin the cranks before the motor kicked in - I am sure with a thumb throttle it would have been no problem as I could have kept the power on , even with the wheels spinning and gained enough momentum and balance to get to the top.

I built a 1000w hub kit , with a 48v 20ah battery , I live in Canada and rode through the last 2 winters , I had a top speed of 50 mph which I rarely hit unless on open bike paths . Fantastic product , over 2000 km on the battery and regular use at one point was biking 200 km a week . Total cost was around 900$ cdn eith the battety and my only regret is not getting a rear hub , but for snow , the front hub with gravel tires took me through harsh winters with zero issues . Year 2 and my battery is slowly giving and I lost alot of acceleration but still commuting to work in half of the time public transit takes . Was really interested in seeing a 2000w kit and this video answered alot of my questions thank you . I do wonder, what is your average distance per charge ? I was getting around 20 miles with mid use . I won't be buying a pre-made ebike, I agree the hub motors have a bad wrap online but in reality , I wouldn't use anything else , glad to hear someone saying that as well. Cheers , great videos. Lots of info , cheers!

We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. kzread.infoUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

I think hub drives can do most things & apart from massive downhill style jumps they good to go. I choose a mid drive just because it suits my needs and at 750watts peak 1000watts it’s more than enough, I don’t go over 25mph anyway as on a mountain bike that’s as fast as I want which is why I made front ring bit smaller and crank arms to have hill torque upped over top speed.

Steve question I have one of these kits with one of these kt controllers which come with the kit do you know if I was to get a programmable controller is it possible to make the bike give me a constant 2000 watts or even push the Hub motor even passed 2000 watts cos I have seen in some of your future videos that you push 2800 Watts Max out of one of these 2000 watt kits

The standard controllers are 40a you're not going to be able to put much more through the standard kit without causing issues and affecting reliability or longevity. Maybe 60 to 80a controller but you could cause damage to many things. The motor phase cables might melt. The bms might blow, the battery might struggle to pull thar current, the battery fuse might blow

When you say remove it? You can ride it as a normal bike with the kit on. Obviously it's going to be heavier

I've just recently finished an almost identical build (2000W Andy Kirby kit on a Claud Butler 29er MTB). Mine doesn't want to go past 30mph throttle only on the flat in power mode 5. I'm about 90kg and have checked brake's aren't rubbing, tyres fully inflated etc. Any ideas what else I should be checking? Have emailed support but they said 30mph is normal top speed. Cheers

@@PaulL42654 unfortunately not! I guess there are too many different factors at play for anyone to give a true ‘top speed’ for all cases. I will say that in my experience I don’t think my build would ever have gone 40mph, even if ridden by a very lightweight human, fully charged and on a perfectly flat smooth road.

They just don't work AS well, if you were gonna do true mountain biking, you would never use a rear hub.
