Great series and thanks to OSN for giving you an introduction to BABYMETAL. I always knew he was not exactly selective when it came to discerning between fact and fiction so you got a good dose of both.😁 I can't possibly correct everything (I could but nobody would want to read it all🤓). A few of the main things that stood out to me: - If Su looks sad or serious while performing she is acting, it is related to the song. - The fans at Legend S in December 2017 were told (admittedly not long before the show) Yui was not feeling well and her doctors had advised her it would not be in her best interests to perform. During the concert the audience sang her parts for her. - There was no new album in 2017, 'Distortion' was released as a single in 2018 and was included on the Metal Galaxy album released in 2019. Far from being all over the place with them not knowing what direction they wanted to take, that album was very well planned and explored musical styles from around the world and some more electronica and pop styles on the Light Side (the first half of the album) and continued with their heavier more metal oriented songs on the Dark Side (the second half of the album). - BABYMETAL (or Amuse - one or the other) did make an official announcement in October 2018 that Yui had decided she would no longer be part of the band and would be leaving. Yui also issued a statement to say thank you and sorry to the fans for her decision to leave. She said she had desired to perform on stage again but she had still not fully recovered her health so she had thought long and hard before making her decision. She hoped to meet everybody in the future as Yui Mizuno and to follow her own long held personal dreams. - Most of the rumours and the more insane conspiracy theories seemed to originate in America (that is how it seemed to me at least). - There were no multiple attempts to replace Yui, no try outs, no girls getting a bad reception from the fans and I have no idea who the gymnast OSN was talking about may have been ... unless he was thinking of the 2 dancers who supported Su and Moa on the 2018 tour before Yui's announcement. They were affectionately named 'Muscle Metal' by the fans. - From the start of the 2019 tour 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) were brought in to take turns dancing in the third spot. They were not "trying out" for the third spot, they were supporting Su and Moa as dancers. Riho is now a solo artist and actor, Kano is with her own JPop group. Momoko continued as the last remaining Avenger from about March 2020. - In January 2023 BABYMETAL returned from a long hiatus to play their first live shows in nearly 2 years. They teased the possibility of a new third member. At their next big shows on 1st and 2nd April they ended the 10+ years of the Metal Resistance lore and created a new BABYMETAL with new lore also revealing the new third member would be Momoko (now known as Momometal). - Moa and Yui always did sing harmonies as well as their backing vocals and chants etc, this is not a new thing they suddenly discovered Moa could do since Momoko became the third member. I'm looking forward to you discovering more of their songs and performances ... I won't try to confuse you with suggesting my own favourites or a specific order to follow.

Ah, Karate at Download 2016.... This is my goto vid to show my friends what Babymetal is all about. Other people might show Headbanger, Road of Resistance, or Rondo of Nightmare..... Those are great performances, don't get me wrong, but this here is basic Babymetal. Su's Vocals, the Kamiband rocking out, Yui and Moa leading the crowd, and the Crowd participation. In some of their Japan mega concerts you'd expect the Japanese crowd to go bonkers, but to see the look of surprise on my friends faces, when they witness a sea of non-Japanese metal heads, singing along with 3 little Japanese girls... That is priceless. Its so good you're getting a short history of the girls. So many ppl seeing the success they are now, don't give them enough credit for the struggles they had. ppl see the mega concerts and sold out stadiums, and assume that it was all bought and paid for by Amuse. No, these girls had to fight their way to what they are today, every bit as much as any rock band just starting out in someones garage.... They played in food courts, they got hate, they were under budget, which is why a lot of their fans are so fiercely (maybe even toxic) defensive about the girls in comment sections. Hope you now go ahead and checkout some of the suggestions the fans have been leaving in your comment sections, maybe even checkout some of the guides and Sakura Gakuin stuff. Sakura Gakuin was the OG idol group that Babymetal came from. Most of all have fun. 😁😁😁😁🤘🦊🤘

Hiroshima 2017 concerts were actually Dec 2nd & 3rd. Also there was no fact checking a girl and making her leave after Yui left lol. (probably mixing up the muscle metal dancers) OSN making up some things as he goes lol. I'm sure he means well. Should be called "The Not So Correct Education of Babymetal " 😂

@@OldSkuleNerd Might been some Fandom stuff. Su's Birthday is the 20th of December. The Muscle Metal ladies (Minami and Minako) were just an addition due to Yui's absence. Later in 2018 they added 3 more: Saya, Shoko, and Kotono (singer in Koiai now).. By the end of 2018 they were all gone except Saya who finished the tour in Australia, where she actually wore a mic. 2019 they added masks on the Kamis and then brought on the Avengers: Riho (doing solo project now), Kano (in J-Pop group @onefive now) and Momo (who attempted to go total K Pop group but didn't make it). After 2020 it has only been Momo and not official In 2023. Also the East Kamis have not played for Babymetal since January 2023. Been using the West since.

Hope I'm not going to get called a "toxic fan" by oldskulenerd once again for correcting couple of things he said. They did announce that Yui wasn't going to be there at Legend S in Hiroshima. The concert they didn't tell anyone anything was their opening concert for their US tour in 2018 in Kansas City. Which was months after Legend S so ofcourse everyone just assumed Yui was going to be there but were shocked when she wasn't. Also Distortion wasn't some album they were going to release. It was their first single for their album "Metal Galaxy". Also Distortion came out like a year before Metal Galaxy did so you got your timeline a bit mixed up which isn't really that big of a deal just something to point out. Also where the hell did you get that "fatshaming" stuff? Yes the two dancers were nicknamed "muscle metal" but I really wouldn't call that fat shaming:D. Still appreciate you taking your time and telling babymetals story. You got the main beats right and that's what really matters.

Some small corrections: - BM third album didn't come out until 2019. - After the first show, BM put out just a statement that Yui would not be taking part of the US tour. - The announcement of Yui not being part of the band anymore was in October 2018, just before the MV for the Single "Starlight" dropped - In my opinion you are overestimating the impact of a really small part of the fandom that criticized the dancers. Most of the fandom was always pretty supportive of the dancers! 2018 they actually call it the dark era, and was also kinda explained in the lore. Sincerely I have no idea how much they added to it after Yui left, or if everything was already planned. After the Legend S show in december 2017, that represented the Light, we entered a dark side that ended with Dark Night Carnival at the end of 2018! The biggest clue we have about Yui condition, is that in the last show she was seen in, you can see something on her back, that looks like a back brace. Another thing, Yui disappeared since then, apart from 1 single comment she did in the 10 years Sakura Gakuin celebration. We only know that SU and MOA said that she is doing ok. Good job overall on what you both did, it went pretty well! Hope you continue your BM journey, and you enjoy it!! 😄

And just to add a little to how Momo was added. After the weird "Muscle Metal" dancers they pivoted to this concept of three "Avengers" filling in for Yui. These were Momo, Kano and Riho. After some time touring where they'd swap between them as the third eventually it became exclusively Momo, whether that was due to international visa issues or other commitments the other girls had, who knows. Riho and Kano eventually moved to other projects (Kano with a jpop group called onefive as well as acting and modeling, and Riho as a solo singer) and during the coof times Momo did a South Korean reality "k-pop competition" show called Girls Planet 999. Once the covid lockdowns ended they started touring with Momo again, still in the "Avenger" role. Finally in 2023 they announced that Momo was becoming "Momometal" and being added as the official third member. It was awesome hearing the crowd cheer extra loud for "Momometal Desu" during the song Babymetal Death after she was introduced. And during the PIA Arena performance of Monochrome seeing Su and Moa pull her in for a group hug during the breakdown in that song still gets me in the feels. I think most BM fans were super happy for Momo and glad that they were officially returning to the "stability" of a 3 person group. The mystery of Yui still remains and probably will remain for a long time with how private Amuse and Japanese culture in general is with personal privacy. I just hope wherever she is she's happy.

OldSkuleNerd telling a Babymetal story from a different timeline is funny. 🤣 2018 is the only "dark times" that they went through because of Mikio's passing in early 2018, and Yui's abscent then eventually departure from the group in late 2018. Ironically, the Lore also went for a darker storyline. But it was planned long before and was not directly influenced by the reality at the time. In 2019, they introduced 3 backup dancers to rotate and perform in Yui's spot in the choreography because dancing as a trio is what they most comfortable with, compared to the other formation they tried throughout 2018. And nothing was changed, Moa always has been a great singer and doing harmonies. Anyway, great that you're enjoying the music. Keep diving in the Fox-Hole! 🦊

_Ossu!_ 🦊🤘🥋 Probably you got this already clear in the comments but, although this Download Festival got its own backstory with BM because until 2015 they were banned from the festival but DragonForce help them out to perform live and they got this epic live show under a heavy rain, the truth is BM always remember Sonisphere Festival 2014 as the turning point in their career, they said it again a few days ago in a couple of interviews also at Download 2024. Overall this was a great live show but they got plenty of outstanding live version of this song such recently at Europe Tour in festivals such Rock Am Ring, Graspop and Pinkpop, so make sure to check that out. Nice one! Here’s a fun suggestion: OSN and Maria should do a combined reaction to the “Not So Extensive Guide to Babymetal”. It’ll help separate the facts from some of OSN’s “fiction”, lol. Either way, it’ll help both of you appreciate Babymetal even more. 🤘🦊

No one fat shamed anyone. And no one hated Muscle Metal ( Minami and Miyako) or Saya. I seriously don't know where you got that from. The three replacement dancers were only from October thru December 2018. And those were Saya, Kotono, and Shoko, who only did 5 shows each to end the tour.

The infamous Drowload 2016 performance. They almost didn't go ahead and perform due to the wet weather, as Koba was worried that the stage was too wet for the girls to dance. He wouldn't let them go on until he was satisfied that it was dry enough, and he even mopped the stage himself to make sure it was acceptable. There is no doubt that 2018 was Babymetal's annus horribilis. The loss of Mikio, the inability of Yui to perform and the uncertainty around her future in the group, as well the various struggles they went through trying to figure out how to keep performing with just Su and Moa meant that it was a very difficult time for Babymetal. Su and Moa have admitted that there was consideration of calling it quits and ending Babymetal, but they made the decision to press on in the hope that Yui would be able to return and rejoin the group at a later date. The whole situation around Yui's absence from the US tour was very badly handled, with no warning coming from Team Babymetal that Yui would not be appearing, and it ended up being the US management who had to issue a statement that Yui would not be on the tour, which caused further consternation in the fan community. Su and Moa subsequently said in interviews that they were very worried during this period that the fans would not accept them without Yui, and were even afraid that fans might throw things at them! During this period, they used several different formations of dancers, including the two dancers Old Skule mentioned, Minako Maruyama and Minami Tsukui, who fans nicknamed "Muscle Metal" that performed on the 2018 US tour, as well as several other dancers including Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono Oomori filling in the third dancing position. There is no evidence that any of these girls were being trialed as a permanent replacement for Yui, they were simply acting as placeholders in the hope that Yui would recover and be able to rejoin the group. Old Skule got his timeline messed up with the release of the Metal Galaxy album and the timing of Yui's official departure. Yui's departure from Babymetal was announced on the 19th of October 2018, the same day that the music video for Starlight was released. The Metal Galaxy album that it features on, wouldn't be released until almost a year later on October 8th 2019. Once it because clear that Yui was gone for good, in 2019 they introduced the Avengers, the three dancers that would fill Yui's old dancing position in the triangle formation, as they had decided after some trial and error that this was the best formation. The three dancers were Riho Sayashi, former ace of Morning Musume, and long time friend and rival of Su-metal right back to their days at ASH in Hiroshima; Kano Fujihira, young Sakura Gakuin member noted for her strong dancing skills, who would subsequently go on to be part of the J-pop group @onefive; and Momoko Okazaki, another former Sakura Gakuin member and noted dancer. The Avengers took turns performing with Su and Moa at live shows, but they did not have mics, and they were not named. Kano only performed at shows in Japan (probably due to her young age), while Riho only performed on and off for a few months, before she moved on to other projects; it seems like Riho was only doing it to help out her friend Su, rather than because it was something she was interested in doing longterm (she's too big a star in her own right to do that). That left Momoko as the only active Avenger from 2021 onwards. The story around what happened with Yui remains a mystery to this day. There has been a great deal of conjecture around it, with theories ranging from the plausible to the absurd. The truth is that the only people who know are Team Babymetal, and they will never tell. For whatever reason, whether it be ill health or personal choice, Yui left Babymetal and the fans need to accept that and move on.

Oldskoolnerd is misremembering several things, maybe one of the BABYMETAL guides would be more factual than the guy who called our beloved Boh, doh...lol

The general consensus is that live Babymetal is best, sometimes the album tracks get too many coats of audio engineering layered on them.

There was no album in 2018 just the single for distortion on vinyl released on record day They did not release The next full album until October 11th 2019 when they release metal galaxy which was a two album set which had the light side and the dark side and Yuimetal officially left Babymetal October 19th 2018 not 2019

Wow! I didn't know Oldskullenerd knew Babymetal's history so well! A master! Indeed, the phase in which Yui left and Mikio passed away was very difficult for Babymetal and the fans. Babymetal symbolizes the innocent joy in metal and those facts hurt a lot. But, as the Karate song says, they were consistent with it. They have overcome this phase and shine again - once again. I recommend watching Babymetal perform in Poland (Progresje, 2024). Pay particular attention to the public. It's the rebirth of adult Babymetal. It's incredible. 🤘🤘🤘🦊🦊🦊🔥🔥🔥

I love the enthusiasm, but it is hard to listen to the misinformation. The formation with the 2 muscle dancers was pretty much panned, as was the formation with multiple dancers. The muscle dancers did a great job, but really didn't fit the BM aesthetic. With the multiple dancers, Moa seemed to get lost in the crowd. People liked what Su and Moa were doing, but they really needed to be a unit of 3. When they went to Australia with only 1 dancer, fans were mostly supportive, with some calling for her to be permanent. When they started the rotating Avengers, fans were supportive. Some had their favorites, and a small portion will never accept a Yui replacement, but the overall reaction was good. Most people wanted a 3rd member with a microphone, which we got with Momo, eventually. That closed the door on the hope that Yui would eventually return, and most have embraced her fully. That small segment will still never accept a replacement for Yui.

Did I just listen to a fairy story ? When Maria says at the end, that’s quite a story. Well Yes it was! Now go and learn the real story.

By the way, one of the dancers that OSN told you about, after Yui left, was Kotono, who is now the singer in KOIAI (Liza-X)

I think you should watch the not so extensive guide to babymetal.

Yui actually fell off stage during budokan red night that was 5ft to the ground. While she was missing for a couple songs...she returned to finish the night. Although she said she mostly bruised her ego....she did get injured and possibly was the catalyst to her having back issues after that. So yea she did have an illness of sorts and probably played a role in her departure but not the actual reason which is still not officially disclosed and Japanese also respect peoples privacy and do not hound celebrities like in western countries. Su and Moa also still speak to her but again just mention that shes doing well and keep her privacy.

Don't know how correcting some mistakes in the facts oldskule is telling is "gatekeeping". It's not like people are being assholes about it. Pretty much all the people doing the fact checks are being polite.

He gave you the worst live video of this song. The UK crowd is just terrible, as usual and it's raining and it's a festival. All ingredients for a sub par viewing. If you want to see a good performance, watch the Budakon 2021 version.
