Pt 4. From a Campsite to a B&B to an Aire, the journey continues if not for a spot of luxury!

In this vid we have moved onto a campsite in Chateauponsac, right next to the small beautiful and ancient fortified town in the Haute-Vienne. We don't spend too much time here as we have a date with our friends in their B&B in La Souterraine.
We spend a few nights off the camera and enjoy some holiday time with our great friends Cheryl and Phil before heading back out on the road. We head back towards Bellac before deciding where next to venture. Near to Bellac is a little Aire campsite of which ends up being a lovely place to stay.....cheaply!

    Hi Tony and Claire . Dunno if I've asked this before but have you done a run down of what's involved in fitting the Range Rover seats to Freddie ? If not could you perhaps do one please ? Or point me in the right direction ? We're currently looking for solutions to convert from a double passenger to swivel single (we already have the swivel taken off the drivers seat) without selling a kidney . As an aside on a normal height base with the swivel on the drivers seat I could not get comfortable as I was sat too high. Are the Rover seats much higher than a fixed normal height seat ? I find I could do with being slightly lower TBH but at near on £170 for a seat base 20mm lower it's a tough pill to swallow on a tight budget . ATB Fattrucker P.S. I hope it goes without saying we love your video's and have been watching for a few months now . Slowly wading through your back catalogue . We do like to see how other people live their van lives . Too many video's show a spotlessly clean "Shoe Home" every second of their trip. I guess we're not into a routine yet being newbies . But we always seem to be tripping over knickers , undies , bra's , socks and dogs in ours , oh and bin bags of rubbish LOL. Safe travels

  • @adventurevanfreddie

    @adventurevanfreddie

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey up, we hope this finds you well. Firstly, many thanks for watching and for leaving the comment. OK, as for your seat question, this is quite complicated to explain but I'll try my hardest not to confuse you. Our seats came out of a Jaguar and are quite big to be fair, and are arguably not the best for swivels due to the depth (front to back). Because of the depth, I had to fit different rails that would allow for greater forwards and backwards movement so that when I rotated the chair, I could manoeuvre the seat to avoid contact with the steering wheel (when swivelled 180 degrees). As for the double seat base, I removed the seat part and cut off the excess part of the frame that supported the centre seat, thus retaining the original base. As for the drivers seat, yes, I had the same problem. Once I had fitted the swivel plate, I sat far too high. What I did here was to cut the seat base in half, I then removed 2 inches (height) from the top half of the frame and then welded the two halves back together, reinforcing the base/joins with some steel angle. I've yet to put a swivel plate on the passenger side as we have the permanent sitting area in the back and quite like having the bench seat set up. If you can't weld, any fabricator will be able to cut, lower and weld your seat bases for you and I should imagine about an 1 - 2 hours of labour for both. If you a happy cutting your bases yourself, welding them together wouldn't take long at all. I hope this helps, if you have further questions, please let me know. All the very best, Tony.

  • @Fattrucker

    @Fattrucker

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@adventurevanfreddie Thanks Tony for the explanation . No problems understanding . It was very clear TBH . I was wondering if there was any issue with the width of the seat runners on the Jag seats or if you just drilled new holes for the longer runners on the seat base ? I think (but don't quote me on this ) that Jag and Land Rover are very similar rail widths . But that's going off the assumption that they're virtually the same company . I might tray some Merc Seats as I've had some fitted before to my Discovery 1 . That was just an easy drilling new holes on some flat stock to get them to fit . Also some older Alfa seats look comfy and that's also a popular Land Rover mod too as they're not too thick in the base . ATB Fattrucker P.S. We've used some of your park up What Three Words locations in Anglesey and Wales . Fantastic apart from the gated slate quarry . (Don't know if you want to update your info ?)That's a no go now as the gate seems to have been reinforced and a more robust lock put in place . This makes it very difficult to turn around Especially in a LWB Ducato LOL . On the flip side the park up across the road from the river (with the grassy picnic area/firepit) up/down the very narrow twisty lane was quiet and beautiful . Many Thanks .

  • @adventurevanfreddie

    @adventurevanfreddie

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey up again. Okey dokey, park ups first. Glag you found the one next to the river and yes, it's definitely worth tackling the small winding road, great little park up. As for the gated quarry, we didn't stay overnight here as there is no where to park up, we were just fortunate that the lorry who had gone down the road had to bust the gate open so that he could turn around (this wasn't a park up, more of a place to visit). Right, onto your seat bases. Once I removed the seats from the frames, I had to fix a piece of 50mm x 5mm flat steel to both the front and the back of the swivel base, cut wide enough to allow for the width of the new rails. In essence, increasing the depth and width of the swivel plate. I then used 2 pieces of 40mm x 40mm x 3mm angle steel and welded these to the front and back of the seat bases, angle down. This allowed for a flat fixed structure so that the bottom of the swivel could be fixed to the seat bases. So, in the end, for me it didn't matter how wide the seat runners were, I just extend the the swivel base to match and ensured I had something solid and flat on the seat base so that I could attach the bottom of swivel plate. ATB, Tony Ps, let me know how you get on buddy.

    You and Ian could get together and complain about 1970s monstrosities made out of concrete ruining the landscape! He complains about that all the time in Britain!!! He’s a total architecture snob 😉

    Absolutely, the 70s monstrosities ruined many parts of Britain and replaced quite a few historic landmarks. I'm with Ian lol, architecture snob haha.

    @@adventurevanfreddie When we visit London, he bangs and on about that all the time! Cheltenham is a lovely place with beautiful regency architecture, but there’s one 1970s concrete “skyscraper“ that ruins the landscape. It is called Eagle Tower. Of course, my cheeky husband calls it Evil Tower 😂
