I have a couple old tug boats I built in the way back. They had a mechanical speed control that used a regular servo to move it back and forth. They were very reliable and despite Radio gear getting more sophisticated I never changed them out. I am now putting together a 30 inch PT Boat. "Plastic" from a old kit I never did finish. I am using a proboat electronic Speed control with it. The Pt boat kit was missing some detail though and I have scratch built a lot of the missing detail. That's how I found your Video. Searching for boats that had more detail to them.

Don’t worry about the PT109 decals on the hull. It real boat never had it.

Those pitman motors are great. Same with the speed control. I would go with max volts, and water cool the speed controller. Also reverse the motor on the right and acquire a right turning prop.

The DUMAS Pitmann motors are bulletproof. No cooling required. If you install brushless you will need to add the complication of watercooling otherwise the magnets inside the brushless motors will be destroyer. Don't rush to "update" stuff like motors, ESC, radio system...keep things out of landfill. Also I wud avoid LiPOs becuz of the explosion/fire hazard and the need for a hi tech charger...plus time spent in maintaining your batteries. I wud use a gelcell or NiMH as they are uncomplicated & you need the ballast weight anyway. Nice to see a large PT109 with 3 props. My latest DUMAS PT109 has only one prop, a 1" plastic...circa 2021

Cool boat. Looking forward to seeing it in action after it being classified “seaworthy.”

watched over this video again as I am impressed with the model it's self. as a suggestion you should give her a new paint job keel to upper decks. [ remember two coats of primer.] remove the PT lettering from any gun mount base and superstructure bulkheads. as PT was never painted on them Don't know why they added them to the decals. only place you would had seen PT-109 would be on the life rings which were Never orange in War Time. they would be the same color as the boat. Other wise the model looks good. There should also be a depth charge in a simple rack port and starboard a few inches ahead of the forward cabin in this scale. Also the bottom of the hall and on the sides of the hull back towards the stern the bottom is painted anti-fouling red with a black boot top and the whole boat should not be one solid color. Hoping you post a video of her when you get her fixed up. a really nice looking model.

Just replace the receiver and transmitter in the mean time, you can still run lipo's in it,just add a lipo alarm. There is nothing wrong with those brushed motors, they're actually pretty good. Dumas is a very good make,it's up there with Billings in quality.

That aft wire you grabbed saying it was bent. It kinda isn't (yeah its bent but its supposed to be) that is a blocker for the gun so that if the crew got over excited and spun it a bit too far trying to chase a target it would block them from sweeping their own deck. It wasn't a straight up and over curve on the one side it had a dent down like what is there. Reversing one of the motors is somewhere between easy and irritating. Just swap the wires on the motor where they're hooked up the change out the propeller with an opposite direction one... Where it gets strange is depending on the prop you may need to replace the shaft to do the propeller swap... Near as I can tell the Port (left) and center rotate clockwise (aft looking forward) and the Stbd (right) was counter-clockwise. Beyond that semperatis is right just swap the receiver and transmitter maybe update the ESC if you need too and she looks almost ready to go.

@@minnoweyesrc30 forgot to mention but some times its a good idea to use magnets to secure some things I used a bunch on a Aquacraft Fletcher for some smaller gun mounts ( and a few other items that need removed for transport or have the potential to get nocked around. Also used em in my recovery rig for it so if i can get to the stern she's an easy tow back. In my case I did the bofers mounts mainly one magnet on them then another on the structure you can also use a magnet then a small bit of metal (like washers or such) did that with some small brass ladders that get removed each time I access a servo I added on it and haven't lost em yet

Looks like that 2nd servo drove a mechanical speed control, essentially a switch that selected resistors or perhaps a half-pack for voltage steps. That astroflight ESC is relatively new, maybe 2002?

Nice model, I would update the radio to 2.4 and you could see how the stock Dumas motors run. See if they are 6v or 12v? Brushless will go faster if you want more speed. Show us the boat running when its ready to go. I have one ready to build and have not decided on motors or speed control(s) yet. Anyone have any suggestions for a scale running speed at 48" triple screw?

Maybe servo is to control torpedo tubes?

Actually you don't want that PT-109 decal for the bow. out side of tv's PT-73. real PT boats did Not have that painted on them. there was only four places on the boats the number was painted. across the top of the forward cabin just above the windows. one on the starboard side on the side of the lower gun tub, on the port side cockpit side between the antenna stand and the curved bulkhead . and the last on the back of the stand of the 20 mm mount on the stern. Those huge PT-109 on the bow would had stood out like sore thumbs for any gunner to lock onto if they had actually placed them on. the bend as you call it. on the after railing behind the 20 mm is actually how it looked.
