The crying when he’s holding Gwen felt so real because it was ugly, it was breathy, everything that seems unattractive but so raw and heart wrenching because everyone has cried like that at least once. Just brutal

It also just makes it hard to watch in a strangely beautiful way, of someone pretending to experience more pain than I ever have, and doing such a good job of it that it seems genuine.

I also think what made the MJ and Garfield Spidey scene so special was that she asks him if HE'S okay afterward, because even in the midst of her own brush with death, she didn't forget that he lost the woman he loved just as much as her Peter loves her, and he NEEDED someone to ask him that. No one ever asked him if he was okay back in his world because who could? Who would know? He had to live with that in his head for years.

I think that it was just so clear that he got extremely emotional saving her and making sure she was okay, so much so that she couldn't help but make sure he was going to be alright. They said it numerous times throughout this episode - Andrew Garfield is an absolute master of facial expression. I am well aware that he's acting in that scene and I still want to just run up and give him a hug. Her reasoning for asking aside, I absolutely agree with the rest of it. He needed someone to ask that, and he needed it to be someone he saved, because otherwise he wouldn't be able to stay strong. MJ just happened to be the perfect person for it, because he can't help but see Gwen in her, and the guys were right when they said he desperately wanted to ask Gwen if she was okay. Such a bittersweet moment, but one that I think gives AG's Peter a lot of closure.

That's a good point. I remember the stuff that Jonno and Alan said before about vulnerability and the ways in which it can help us overcome difficulties - but if you're the hero who's always wearing a mask, if you've got no-one to open up to and it's literally your JOB to be strong *all the time,* who're you going to be vulnerable to? That, in turn, reminds me of the TEDTalk Brene Brown gave on vulnerability (I think the second one?) in which she talks about a father with only daughters: all the daughters take after the mum in expecting him to be this invulnerable Superman figure, that they would rather have him fall on his sword than ever show a single moment of weakness. So, you know. Ain't just superheroes who have to deal with that.

@@Stolanis I also think it's important to know where your space is to be vulnerable and where you need to put on the cape and be a hero. Usually, when other people need to be put first, we don the cape. However, when it's our time to be put first, we need to be ready to take off the mask and cape and be vulnerable. In that scene, in particular, AG's Peter needed to put others first, and couldn't be super vulnerable. Just the look on his face before he nods. "I'm okay for now, let's keep going." By shelving his own emotions and putting MJ first in that moment, he proved that he can overcome his own grief and despair, even if he feels like he wallows in it when he's alone. It's encouraging, in a sense, that even when he's so grief-stricken, he can still motivate himself to move.

Andrew actually said the “Are you okay?” Line was very important because in that moment all Peter could see was Gwen’s body he’s holding, and he needs MJ to tell him did it to make sure he actually did it.

I’m so glad Andrew Garfield is finally getting the limelight he deserves for his Spider-Man films. I don't think they were bad movies though. Not good either but very enjoyable and I think they were treated quite unfairly at the time of their release. Now that No Way Home exists and Amazing Spider Man serie is considered part of the MCU multiverse I hope Andrew gets another shot at being a Spider man but this time with a good script.

I love Andrew's Spiderman. Many people don't like him at first, but after No Way Home, he got the chance of redemption that he deserved

Many don't like him throughout. Worst version of any part of the character. Worst Spidey, Worst Peter, has the worst swinging, he's the dumbest version, he had to steal his web formula and google how batteries worked. Its all just awful.

I respectfully disagree..

You guys missed something... When Andrew saves MJ in No Way Home... He used his aerodynamics to grab a hold of MJ instead of relying on his webs, unlike the last time when he tried to do with Gwen(which inevitably causes Gwen's death) . It wasn't until he grabs hold of MJ, that he uses his webs to slow their descent down safely. This level of details shows how much introspection and grief the character actually would've gone/been through... To correct their tiniest of tiniest mistakes and taking more variables(such as stretching of the web string in Amazing Spider man 2) into account. For a redemption arc, and it honestly does an incredible job on that.

That was one of the details that hit especially hard for me, like he must have played her death in loop in his head, trying to figure out where he went wrong, what he would to differntly. I thought about a quote from Spike "I didn't save you that night, but every night after that, I did save you..."

@@chand911 uhm... Actually physics withstanding... Just driving wouldn't have worked... You also have to manage the speed... The rate at which you're falling down. Thats where your aerodynamics come into play... Cause by default your body falls at the speed of 9.8m per sec... In that particular scene, MJ fell off first, but from a higher ground, which also increased her speed towards the ground while passing Andrew's floor because he was several floors below from where her fall actually began... So he had to streamline his body movement during his own fall to match upto her speed in order to get a hold of her[because remember how I said that by default all objects accelerate towards earth at speed of 9.8m per sec.]... If he didn't do that... MJ wouldn't be saved I'm sorry... I know how weird it is that we're talking about physics in a superhero-physics-defying film... But if you look closely... You can actually see that happening...

This a great point. What also stood out to me as well is that, once he had a hold of MJ, he twisted them around so he'd hit the ground first this time. Partly I imagine because he knows he's more durable and can take a bigger hit and buffer her from that impact if he couldn't slow them down enough before they hit the ground.

I really appreciate what I think is Tom Holland physically reacting to the "She was my MJ line". It looked as if, after a pause, he starts breathing harder, I could almost hear his heart rate change processing his current grief and the thought of losing MJ too. Knowing there is a literal universe where that happened, where he loses her.

No Way Home seriously did so much justice for all the spidermen. It was an absolute treat to see them together.

I almost ugly cried in the theater at Andrew asking Zendaya, "Are you okay?" Andrew pulled his soul out for that line, and, as a fan, I couldn't be more grateful to him. The No Way Home film gave fans what they wanted, but I think it gave Andrew what he *needed*: closure on his initial arc as Spider-Man/Peter Parker. He has been growing as a person, actor, and human being since then, and his reservoir of emotion he can pull from has only gotten deeper.

It was so beautiful to see a grown man healing, in communion with his fellow actors and billions of us; his spidey-self, his career trajectory, and his relationship with ex girlfriend Emma through art, no matter what an evil corporation Disney is, even with that; something so pure and magnificent did come out of what was conceived as a cash grab.

I saw it on Disney at my daughter's and while she was expecting me to cry, she was NOT expecting to have to pause the film.

I had been watching you for a long time so when we connected and you asked if I wanted to be in an episode, I was truly so taken aback but completely honored and thankful. It was a true joy flying to Utah to meet, film, and collaborate with you and this episode is such a beautiful representation of the times we had and the relationship dynamic that quickly formed. "The costume represents something [...]. In those two days you understand it is an honor, and people dream to be in that position." This is actually a sentiment that I always respected about the cosplay community when it comes to kids at conventions. All cosplayers seem to have this unspoken understanding that there are certain costumes you put on that require an unbreakable illusion for kids. I still remember the story about the Daenerys cosplayer who was mistaken for Elsa by a kid and immediately jumped into the role, and how a nearby Anna cosplayer played along and even helped them quickly braid their wig, all because kids kept coming up thinking she was Elsa. I think that's one of my favorite aspects of seeing movies made about superheroes, that idea of getting to bring that symbol to life for people in a very real way.

I was cosplaying as a female venom (half and half), but my red hair was wild that day, so someone called me Carnage, and I just replied as Carnage would... "We're Venom, You Twat!" with the Southern Hill Billy accent and all. It was hilarious! 😎👍 Embraced the female Cletus Kasady character the rest of the convention. I won the unofficial cosplay award for most convincing actress. 🤣🤷

26:05 if you didn't cry from this scene then we have nothing to talk about. In a movie that was centered around Dr. Strange, Tom Holland's Spiderman, and a reality warping spell breaking the multiverse they managed to give Andrew Garfield's Spiderman quite possibly the most deserved moment in modern cinema. He got to save the girl. I'm crying typing this out and I hope this scene never stops making me cry.

Andrew Garfield is such a world class actor - the scene with Gwen is an absolute stunner and regardless of what you think of the quality of the films themselves the brilliance of his acting ALWAYS manages to find a place to shine through in every single one BTW Omar was wonderful guest - lovely insights and well spoken. I would love to have him back for any of these in the future

I was talking with a friend of mine about spiderman and I asked what is his biggest flaws in the Andrew franchise, and my friend said "adaptability" and that is because tobys spiderman saves falling people by propelling himself towards them, while Andrews shoots his Web, the first person Andrew saves is a child he catches with his Web, and he likely continues doing that method over the time till gwen when it fails and she dies, only after that does Andrew propel himself to MJ in NWH to save her. He learns that the same method that works half a dozen times before won't always work. And that's what I love about the different spidermen.

"At some point, I just stopped pulling my punches. I got rageful. I got bitter. I just don't want you to end up like me." Andrew Peter No Way Home. You know he was so robbed of this incredible story of overcoming loss and grief because Sony just doesn't know how to handle Spider-Man. The MCU isn't perfect, sometimes their movies are too formulaic, but they did help with the Home trilogy and Spider-Man was redeemed in a lot of ways because of it. And I'd love to see a movie with a not so friendly Spider-Man. One that's darker, one that's tired, one that's just...kind of done. Peter SUFFERS in his life. The man can't seem to catch a break. But even despite all that, he gets up. He keeps going. And that's what I love about Spider-Man. He's us. Just with powers. But in the end, he's just....us.

The wildest part about that quote is hearing it about 5-10 minutes after seeing AG's Peter literally catch a falling car with one hand while hanging from the other. Imagine that Spiderman pulling his punches. There'd be nothing left for the average guy. AG's Peter has to sit with that darkness, and it seems like he's only barely beginning to see his way out of it.

Would be interesting to speculate what happened in-between TASM2 and No Way Home, as he said things like 'he got bitter' and 'stopped pulling his punches' and dropped hints such as 'he never had the time to do Peter Parker stuff', I think he turned to the darkness completely and became full-time vigilante Spider-Man, probably living as a social recluse when he's not Spider-Man, and maybe he was even unemployed? Does he still live with Aunt May if this is the case? There are so many possibilities and spaces to explore the character, thus they must make TASM3!

The thing I love about the MJ rescue scene in NWH is that he rescued her differently from how he tried to rescue Gwen (which incidentally matched how he had rescued Jack, the kid, from a similar fall - ie worked once, should work again - but it didn't). To me that says that since ASM2 he has been thinking about her death and what he could've done differently to save her - how else he might've tried to rescue her -> which he then used when rescuing MJ. Also yeah, spider-flu is one of my favorite scenes...

As awesome as the “it’ll make you strong” psychological reason for having the little boy put the mask on is, I can’t help but also think it’s a great way to provide a makeshift layer of smoke inhalation prevention without freaking the kid out anymore. If that was something that at all crossed the filmmakers’ minds, that’s a cool detail.

Andrew Garfield was the most powerful Spiderman for me. I never understood why it became cool to hate him. He has the best redemption story line I've ever seen. I loved this episode. "Real heroism is 'I'm going to keep doing the right thing, and I'm going to keep being kind. And I'm not going to lose my decency just because I'm getting the s*** kicked out of me.'"

@@boserboser6870 I honestly don't think they were that badly plotted. I think they suffered a bit in the edit, some of the dramatic connective tissue, especially involving the villains, got simplified in favor of action (some deleted scenes should maybe have been left in, because while they weren't essential for a coherent plot, they would have helped give weight and context to character motivations), but they still work. I honestly think Sony should talk to Marc Webb about the possibility of a director's cut of both movies. I'd love to know what that would look like, as I know he didn't have a whole lot of control over the theatrical cuts. Even if it ends up with a The Batman-length TASM2 (or close to it), that might be what's best for that movie in terms of narrative flow.

I used to study teaching and people really underestimate the sheer effort and tenacity you have to have for the profession. Even when the kids are not only being brats but just plain cruel to either other students or yourself, it's hard. Really hard. The fact that you got through the whole year and still have that hope of choosing to be kind is incredible. Even if you end up doing something else or life kicks you a couple too many times, you have the privilege of knowing what many will never know of getting through that year in your life with kindness. Remember that hard year because if you can get through one, who's to say you couldn't get through another. It is a thankless job quite often, but guess what stranger? Thank you for your hard work and kindness. You'll be okay.

I just remember screaming, 'there's three Spidermen, for God's sake somebody save her, please!' And of course it was Andrew's Peter who immediately reacts first, not that Tobey didn't care but Andrew's Peter knows, he knows that grief. He's gonna get there if it kills him.

It's not that Tobey's Spider-Man hadn't seen it first but it's the fact that Andrew's Spider-Man has played that scenario in his head probably a hundred times, a scenario where he does something sooner or slightly different and saves Gwen so when MJ is falling he knows exactly how to grab her and how to land so she'll be safe

I need them to cover that movie, it's my old time favorite movie and my relationship with my father it's pretty much like the one that Jim has with his father.. Which makes the movie hard to watch at the same time that it makes it special when I feel down.

I've been severely depressed as of late, but that Gwen speech... God, it hit me really hard. It's exactly what I needed to hear right now. Thank you, Cinema Therapy guys, you give people hope when life seems hopeless. I don't know what's possible for you. I know that if you live in the USA, mental healthcare is expensive. Please, if it's at all possible, get help. I've been where you are, I just spent months in a mental institution (voluntarily) for depression and anxiety. It feels impossible but life can get better. It's not supposed to be this hard. It will get easier. If you need to talk, I'm here.

I love that Alan can cry and be like "it's totally ok". And sometimes when he cries I cry too. I love the chemistry between these guys. And I also love to hear their opinions on different movies 😄

I remember reading somewhere (this channel?) someone's grandmother describing crying like "when you have sorrow it's like carrying a thick blanket soaked in water. When you squeeze out the water, it's still a burden, but not so heavy to bear". As good a description of crying/relief as I've heard.

nah, you're getting it wrong. what those people say is that TOBEY is the best peter, Andrew is the best spidey, and Tom is the one to have achieved both well. but from that argument, I've seen ppl saying this in terms of what they've read in the comics. TBH, i personally find it hard to compare them becuz they all bring something completely different to spider-man AND peter parker so i honestly feel like its useless to compare them cuz they all tackled the character very differently

They are films. Inspired by the themes and tones of the comics. They are not supposed to be necessarily compared to the comics. They are fantastic films and the acting on all parts was great. For someone like me who is a cinema nerd and has never read a comic in my life, but understands the concept and the culture, these films are absolutely fantastic.

“He's trying to do everything right. He's juggling this world that is falling apart around him. The worst outcomes are happening. You as a person what motivations do you have to continue doing what you believe is right, if your life is falling apart. Whether you save the city or don't save the city, if you are losing yourself in the process, that's a really hard place to stay strong from. It would destroy anyone” .... This hit me more than I can say

"Yes, you can... Put on the mask, Jack" Remember, one of the most poignant things about the character has been that whole psychology of the mask... "Spiderman can be *ANYONE* ..." .Working it into the scene this way is honestly a bit of a tearjerker to me.

Honestly, that scene where he saves MJ is also a redemption moment for his lifelong regret of not saving Gwen - he gets a second shot at saving the girl and this time he gets it right. Sometimes we can learn to forgive ourselves by being able to help someone else in the same situation where we previously failed ourselves. It doesn't fix the past, but it gives us hope for the future.

I love that the Saving MJ scene in No Way Home hits hard even if you haven’t watched any other Spiderman movies. You can completely understand the emotions he is going through from the few pieces of dialogue we get about Gwen prior to it. Andrew Garfield is so good at acting, man-

Honestly, I feel like Andrew's Spider-Man is the one whose story is least resolved, because while I do agree with what you said in the scene where he saved MJ, I think it also shows the signs of him still not being over it, because of how easily he did save her, it was so quick and sudden with how quickly she was out of danger, and then it lingers, I think that emotion behind his part of the scene is also a little bit of thinking about how easy it could have been to save her, and I get the feeling from the scene that he's thought about all the little mistakes he made thousands of times and how he could've done things differently, and then possibly feeling like he proved himself right when he saved Zendaya MJ, with also that little hint of closure. But besides just that, I also get the feeling that if we see more of him in the MCU, or his own continuation movie, that we'd see a lot more of him overcoming and managing his anger, and gradually learning to love again with his own MJ, as it's hinted at in the lab scene, that he's the only one who doesn't have an MJ, I think it'd be tough to find the right casting for an MJ for Andrew Spidey, specifically one that wouldn't just constantly be compared to Emma Stone's Gwen, but it'd be nice to see this character, if not have a happy ending, then at least move to a happier and healthier place in his life, as it seems to be implied that he's the only one who never really got that, when even Tobey's Spidey did, after everything that happened and how low he went in Spider-Man 3, it'd be nice to see a good depiction of a story that's closer to what Spidey had in the comics, which is he loses Gwen and after a grieving period, grows to love again with MJ, as it'd be an opportunity to explore how difficult it is to open up again after losing a loved one, and also show the healing process, and how reconnecting with people can be a very healthy way of dealing with grief, even if there isn't a follow up romance. I mean, think about it, Andrew's Spidey, is the only one who has no outlet or anyone to trust with the information that he's Spider-Man, not since Gwen, and I don't recall, but I'm fairly sure I don't remember his Aunt May knowing anything about or figuring out his secret. I think the perfect way to wrap his character up in a healthy way, would be learning to balance reconnecting with people, with super-hero life. But that's just me.

I don't think Andrew will get his MJ. That's not how multiverse works. In the comics there also were different versions of Spider-Man, but I don't think even one of them got to have Gwen AND MJ. And we have to remember that MCU is based on the comics afterall.

Agreed, you can really sense Peter's anguish over losing Gwen, but luckily was able to forgive himself years later by saving MJ from the same fate.

If Alan cries one more time (like he won't?), I will have to come on as an emotional support fan. And honestly, having Omar get choked up at one point along with Alan's tears sent me over the emotional cliff. All three of you were so great in this episode. This is what we love about you guys. Bring Omar on again and keep up the good work.

I literally watch these so I can cry and to have background at work sometimes. Thank you, for breaking me and helping me feel something.

The moment I finished watching TASM I realised Andrew is my favourite spiderman and TASM is favourite spiderman movie. I still don't know now why some people had hated it . The way Andrew connects emotionally with us through his acting is amazing. I call him the emotional spider-man. And man.. Emma's acting was fantanstic . The whole performance of Andrew when Gwen died in his arms oh god , that had me bawling my eyes out. I wanna give him an oscar for that scene.

Friends and I have a breakdown. Tobey was the best Peter. He played dorky smart Peter perfectly. Andrew was the best Spider-Man. He played snarky confident Spidey perfectly. Tom is a good blend of both. He's not the best Peter and he's not the best Spider-Man, but he's the best mix of both.

@@WalkerRileyMC yeah... I've heard that before too... Peter Parker in the comics and cartoons was always a nerdy awkward kid... But as Spider-Man, with the mask on, he was able to be more confident and snarky, with those fabulous quips and one-liners to the bad guys.... Tobey's Spider-Man was missing the quips and snark... But Andrew's Spider-Man had the best quips and snark and one-liners... like he was best representation of Spider-Man from the comics.... but Andrew's Peter Parker was too cool and not awkward enough... Tom brings that geeky awkwardness to Peter Parker and he's got some great quips and snark and one-liners.... The one thing I loved about Tobey's Spider-Man that I wished they had kept with both Andrew's & Tom's versions is the organic web-shooters... I know in the comics that Peter makes his own webbing and web-shooters (and there a lot of funny moments of Peter running out of webbing) but I gotta say from a genetics/biology standpoint... if this were real and Peter was genetically altered to have Spider Abilities... It just makes sense to me that he'd have organic web-shooters in his wrists... I remember there being a lot of online chatter about people complaining about that aspect of Tobey's Spider-Man not having to make his own webbing/web-shooters (my dad included) but once people saw it in the movie, it just makes sense.

@@captsparrowslady I don't think having the webbing come out of the wrist is supported by real spiders either. In that light it would make more sense if he had webbing come out a new organ near his rear and then created a wrist-mounted dispenser for it after somehow harvesting it. Personally, I think it's a cool inclusion for that particular version as it gives him a distinctly spider-based power (other arthropods have similar senses and relative strength). But I also like the tech-based webs since it means one of his powers is reliant on his intelligence and ingenuity. He has to science up one of his most important tools in a garage on a shoe-string budget.

I'm here for the Andrew Garfield appreciation. It's great to see his talent being appreciated.

In no way home I think there are a couple of powerful moments. Like Andrew's spiderman saving MJ and Toby's spiderman standing in front of green goblin. I do like how each spiderman has that different but similar heavy moments. It pushes them forward. I do like how when Stan Lee first came up with him people weren't sure it was going to sell.

While the TASM movies had their problems, I love how this was able to draw out some of the best parts of both the filmmaking, the acting, and the writing. Having grown up reading Spider-man in the 80's, I had a pretty solid grasp on it all, so when Gwen had her fall in the clocktower, I knew what was coming. I also knew it was necessary as the tragedy added a few important things to the world here. It showed he couldn't always win. Bad things can still happen to a hero no matter how hard he tries. And overcoming the loss and grief built character in how he perceived being a superhero. To that end, Andrew Garfield did an outstanding job with the role. As a "Peter Parker" he did the best he could, though the writing wasn't great. As Spider-man he was phenomenal. As the balance between the two I have no complaints and we saw just how amazing (pun intended) an actor he was with the right material for No Way Home. He deserved all the accolades and more.

Andrew Garfield has always been my favorite of the Spider Men and it is everything to have his performance and these movies reviewed and praised by the Internet Dads. His acting is so poignant and he radiates joy in the suit.

So since we are talking about masks and costumes. I am a cosplayer and I can't deny that every time i put on a costume or the mask of it, it really does change your way of being a little. Like the guy said you stand up taller. You feel more free, more out of your shell. For me it makes me leagues more confident and assured of myself to be in costume especially when it's a character that is a confident person. It's truly a spectacular feeling and thing that happens

I haven't watched the andrew garfield movies since they came out but watching no way home instantly brought back such strong emotions. Really crazy how evocative his performance is years later

The hole "finding a place for grief" part really hit close to home for me... I used to be (and still am in a way) a fan of technoblade... a minecraft youtuber who had incridable humor, mad skills, and most of all he always cared about his fans and about people around him unfortunetly... about a week ago he passed away due to cancer and this video reflected a lot of what i felt... rest in peace techno

Spider-Man taught me no matter how great the pain, you keep moving.. Hope's not something everyone can hold on to, there's some situations where it's back to back levels of hell but if you just keep going eventually you'll come to a better place. Anyone can be Spidey under the mask but it takes an extreme level of resilience to keep the faith that it'll get better and that's why I love the character so much.

Ever since I saw both ASM in theaters Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man has been my favorite, and one I could personally relate to, not with superheroics or loss, but with his peter’s personality and mannerisms. I’m so happy people giving him his due now and recognizing his impact. Also, as 30 year old male it makes me feel good seeing grown men shed tears and know it’s ok. It’s ok, to feel emotionally charged with something you like and express oneself. It always felt “taboo” when I’d tear up during this stuff, because that’s “not what men do”. Thank you guys

That moment when Andrew's Peter saves MJ is E V E R Y T H I N G. It's the perfect kind of bookend for the character, it's his redemption (in his own eyes, because nobody else would have blamed him), it's just such a perfect moment for him. And Andrew plays it FLAWLESSLY. I weep every single time.

Him actually dumping the popcorn on Omar in the end is such a dad thing. Like, the subtle "I'm just gonna escalate a little bit" thing made me chuckle.

I love the fact you guys are reacting to Spider-Man, specifically Andrew's Spider-man, because to me he was the most realistic in the sense he was a bit more relatable. Especially with how Andrew delivered his performance as Spider-Man so well, yet was overlooked because of some of the writing. I still feel like he deserved to have a part 3 of his Spider-Man just to show us what truly happened to him after he lost Gwen, granted it was hinted but there's def. something more there.

Agreed. And one reason I particularly like Andrew's Spiderman and the angst that he brings is that his origin story has parallels to Bruce Wayne (minus being a billionaire). They both lost their parents very young in traumatic/mysterious circumstances, they had both suffered an incredible amount of grief and loss in their lives, and they both use Spiderman/Batman to fill that void and try to affect change with it. Obviously, Spiderman isn't nearly as jaded and consumed as Batman (until it's hinted with Andrew's Spiderman after losing Gwen) and makes the choice to see the good and find moments of joy in it. Once I saw that parallel I couldn't unsee it and really adds more layers of nuance for me to his character and Andrew's performance.

I love that MJ asked Andrew's Spiderman if he's okay when she saw his reaction.

All three actors who played Spider-Man are amazing in their own right. I think that Andrew Garfield has always been my favourite due to his comedic timing and acting chops. Most of his memorable lines were ad-libbed (tiny knives). I just think he had way too many villains to fight (always a bad sign, unless it's an ensemble) and was too "real in the feels" for people. Grief is difficult and we all deal with it in different ways. I also love the fact that all you guys were crying; that's how powerful and relatable it is. Great episode, as always, and thanks Omar for adding to this episode!

Knowing Andrew Garfield used to play with kids behind the scenes, in the spiderman suit, just makes everything better. Yet another reason why I adore Andrew Garfield

The "Put on the mask, it'll make you strong" has a lot of the same energy as the lines in Spider-verse about "It always fits eventually" and "Anyone can wear the mask. *You* can wear the mask." Sometimes you just need that little confidence boost to get you going forward.

I'm a massive fan of Tom's Spider-man. I love pretty much everything they've done with that franchise. That being said, there will always be something about Andrew's portrayal of that character that is so so special. I think it has to do with the emotion and range he gave in those two films. He's my favorite Spider-man for sure.

"I'm just Omar" sir you were Spider-Man and the fact is- you stunt doubled in that suit. Guess what? You helped to inspire people. That makes a hero to me.

Talking about regression, I remember something with The Punisher in the comics they did. They were showing what it was like in Veitnam for him. In there, him and his squad started getting a rep for men who went too far. They killed, did terrible things, were just absolutely brutal. So a new CO was brought in to try to bring them in line and they got frustrated with this CO constantly holding them back and threating punishment for what they were doing... so... they set him up so the enemy would have a clear shot at the CO and he would die. And it worked. Then Frank comments something like, "I can't wait to be out of this hell hole. Get back to my wife and just live normally again so I don't have to do this crap any more." It was, I think, a good set up in that it shows that Frank Castle was always a violent nut job who does what he thinks is right at the expense of others. It wasn't something that just came out of him when his wife and kid was killed but instead he repressed this inner monster when he was with them. Tried to be a normal person. But when what grounded him was destroyed... he went back to that monster again and started doing like he used to back in 'nam.

"We must be greater than what we suffer." Funny enough, that line was supposed to be given by Lizard in the first Amazing Spider-man film.

Andrew is my favourite Spider-Man. Always has been, always will be. I’m conflicted that now people are finally starting to appreciate him after No Way Home. I’m glad but also frustrated. I think “where the hell were you lot when he was getting unfairly criticised left right and centre?!”

22:25- you know, I've never really felt Spiderman was relatable to me before this. Usually you don't see the superheros loved ones abandon them or leave them for someone else, typically they would die in some tragic way. But this hit too close to home for me. After years of pain and emotional wreckage, eventually you’ll realize that people are the universal lifeline that inevitably will keep you alive. Helping people helps you survive.

"Do not downplay this" is probably one of the big lessons we all have to learn

Please, please, do EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (2022). Amazing movie, I'm sure Alan will cry and Jono will love the philosophy behind it. Movie is about family, determinism, nihilism, and finding meaning and stablishing connections. Plus, the action and effects are truly amazing.

I love Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man so much

This is far and away my favorite Spider-Man portrayal. Andrew nails both the quick humor and the real sense of sorrow that is under everything.

Andrew Garfield did a talk show after his mother died and he said something that has stuck with me: Grief is unexpressed love. It stuck with me because it’s such a beautiful way to deal with something that can be so horrible.

Watching Gwen's death always brings me to the brink of tears. It's my go-to for when I want to be depressed. And I was as close to crying as Amazing Peter was when he saved MJ at the Statue of Liberty. Just watching those few seconds here had tears welling up in my eyes. Andrew acted the hell out of both of those scenes.

It’s doing the right thing even when it is hard. That’s what being a hero is. Standing alone to do good won’t always be the most popular but it’s what’s right.

Man...I got through the whole vid without tears...but that f*ing face Andrew Garfield is doing after asking MJ, if she's okay...bro...this will always break me 😭

Shout out to Cinema Therapy. You guys are just the right amount of logical and emotional that I need right now. With the state of the world right now and so many crazy, scary, sad things happening in the US, having a little mental health time by watching movies with you helps me to have some hope in our future. Thank you for all the hard work you do and stay well. Also, I know it might be a swing in the dark, but my favorite movie of all time is Inherit the Wind made in 1960. There are a ton of themes in that film that I’m shocked to see still prevalent today, so it would be interesting to see both of your takes on it. Not to mention I think it has some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. Alan is right when he says the best visual effects are the actors faces because that is 90% of the movie and it’s amazing. Thanks again for your consideration. ❤️

I think it was a pretty cool choice for them to say that he stopped pulling his punches, that basically means he murdered a bunch of villains, or at best gave them crippling injuries.

That scene when he saves MJ, yes, that's all of us weeping. It's such a good scene gave everyone an Amazing Spider-Man flashback.

andrew garfield was my favorite Spider-Man-he was just so charismatic and goofy which set him apart from tobey maguire and tom holland’s Spider-Man. his story was imo the darkest in a way, and to see him redeem himself in the end was amazing. and don’t get me started on that scene with gwen T-T his love for gwen was so wholesome and I loved them together but sadly they didn’t last

The spiderman journey and motivation has resonated with me since I was a kid reading boy's life in the 90s. I get all the feels with the loss of Gwen Stacy due to losing my first relationship to self demise so y'all covering this character and the emotional journey really validates the rage I fought and still find echos of in my life today.

I remember I was working in a gaming store and my boss was a huge Spiderman fan, we connected over comicbooks. He was teased for liking Amazing Spiderman by almost everyone but me. We just connected and it created such an amazing workplace for gamers and comic book nerds. So many inside jokes happened and that movie gave me an amazing friend, who I have adored to this day his actions and caring nature was so very Spiderman without being a physical hero. He was still a hero to me and saved me so many times.

I always just wanna reach through the screen and give Alan a hug when he cries…and I always cry with him #cryingwithalan ❤️

Grief and loss is such a hard thing to dealt with. I lost my six year old cat last week and it left a huge emptiness inside. It still makes me cry to see her pictures and I always missed her presence in the house but yeah, it will heal soon. She is in a better place now. Thank you for the video. Also can I suggest? Can you please react to SpyxFamily? It's a twelve episode anime about a found family. It's not common today to have an anime or a tv show tackles about found family and I think you two will give a good insight of the story

Andrew Garfield is such an incredible actor and I loved hearing you all say that. He fit the role of Spider-Man so perfectly, he's always been my favorite.

6:46 Another good example of the "emoting through a helmet" thing is halo's master chief. Not the show where he spends 90% of his screentime without a helmet (or sometimes clothes 🙄), but the games, particularly halo 4, 5 and infinite. The mocap guys and animators do a phenomenal job of expressing this broken man without ever taking off his helmet.

1) I love this series of Psychology of a Hero/Villain series! It's a deep dive into what motivates characters and helps audience understand them. 2) 18:30 when the camera shows Alan's face then cuts to Jonathan silently laughing cracks me up. I kept rewinding that clip over and over. 3) Jonathan's slip of Addition instead of Addiction was funny.

So Imma drop something very personal. I struggled with suicidal issues for years, and I'm always trying to be positive and trying to cope with this poison but my biggest inspiration is Spider-Man, a character who has more than enough reason to take his own life but he keeps getting back up regardless, and I'm talking about all the spider people but Peter is who I connect with the most, so when I'm in those days where I'm hurting so much I watch the movies(all of them) and it helps so much.

That’s what makes Spider-Man so personal I think, so relatable. Every iteration is steeped in loss it makes his story sooooo human.

Still not my favorite spider-man but NWH made me care for him. All three spider-man did such a great job!

when you pulled that Jack Black SoR scene, I nearly sprayed water all over the place.

I lost my dad and things like can be hard. He did so much for me, and I’m getting life together for himself and to make him proud. Blessings to u all 🙌🏾

I recently lost my grandpa after taking care of him fore the past couple of years due to alzheimers, he and my grandma were more of my parents since my real parents left me when I was born. So now that they're both gone, loads of memories I had of them raising me after looking at photos my grandma used to take when I was young came flooding in. The house is quiet now and I honestly feel empty. I wish they could've stayed longer but they grew older and weaker despite everything I did to take care of them. That feeling of "I could've did better take take care of my grampa" will linger till I die. Dealing with grief will take awhile but that scar will forever remain.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has my three favorite Spider-Man scenes! The opening scene where he’s chasing the armored truck all while he’s running late to graduation, the first fight with Electro where he’s forced to think creatively and save everyone with only one web shooter, and the last scene ESPECIALLY where after EVERYTHING he’s lost, he still goes out as Spider-Man because people need him!! Andrew nailed the character and clearly understands him! Those three scenes capture three big aspects of his character. His personality, his intelligence, and his emotion/duty! I love the first scene where he’s endlessly joking around and being kinda awkward. It personifies the attitude of the character perfectly. He’s joking around and being awkward and he’s joking about running late with the villains! And when he answers his phone while pinned to the front of a truck and has to tuck that canister under his chin so he can take the call had me laughing in the theater! And how he acted like everything was good and very clearly everything was not okay lol. Then in the Electro fight you see his intelligence and his adaptability. He has one web shooter and on the fly brainstorms how to save every single person in what’s seconds to us and a moment for him! And again his jokes are on point. And him shooting the fire hose with a firefighter hat on was gold! Lastly the last scene in the movie (despite how dumb rhino looked) is my absolute favorite Spidey scene. He just lost everything he held most dear. His life is in absolute shambles. But he has an entire city that needs him. And even though he’s aching and broken and wants to quit, he’s gonna go out there and do it anyway because it needs done. He isn’t going to let it stop him or control him! He goes out, puts on a brave (and jovial) face and attitude and he’s Spider-Man! I love Andrew Garfield as Spidey so much!! He’s so perfect in the role!! It’s a shame the second movie was so bad that it soured people on him. The first one was brilliant and the second had great moments and the actors killed it! But sadly people blame the movie on the actor when he was the best part!

You have to see that aunt may was amazing in this as well. She didn't suddenly decide to put Ben's things away right then. She saw her surrogate son suffering from a loss and instead of talking to him about it and giving platitude or saying I know what you're feeling and trying to relate; she does something. She thinks what does Peter need to learn or hear and how can I relay that to him, by doing it herself. There was no way she was thinking about putting Ben's things away until then. Her grief for his death was still ongoing and by stepping up and being peters mother figure she helps in her own healing as well as his.

This is my all time favorite channel! I love that their is so much to learn and apply in our lives.😊 Thankyou for all that you do!
