    The great thing about psychology is that, it's everywhere, in our every day lives but most of the time, we do not take time to even observe what's happening within us, around us and that's what interested me in studying psychology.

    We know alot about the brain but not alot about how the mind works. Is how I introduced my self to my psychology degree pursuit there at the start of my 4 years 8 semesters of college. Dormant is the word I used towards degree along with the topic of being curious about failure instead of depressed by it. With this I brought the experimental psychologist idea of "understanding how to explain schizophrenia by way of knowing how the schizophrenic's brain work". Terrill TC!

    1:08.I am a psychology supporter myself but I think he was very biased in the psychology vs psychiatry commentary. The REAL reason why people often suggest going to a psychologist vs a psychiatrist is NOT because a psych has many more "weapons" in which to prescribe treatment. The REAL reason is because many people are wary of psychiatrist for the reason that they treat mental disorders medically. If you're having mental or emotional problems.. wouldn't you rather work through them the "safe" way using logic and reasoning and methods to help you change or shift your thinking? Or would you rather risk being medicated and end up messing your mind up? I don't know if the medicine that psychiatrist can prescribe can actually mess your mind up but that's the phobia that most people have (whether it's true or not) and the reason why they prefer to go to a psychologist for the safer option. Also, a psychiatrist is usually more expensive than psychologist

  • @Tara-js3bv

    @Tara-js3bv

    Well sadly most psychiatrists immediately administer medicine because they aren't really trained properly in psychology. Also medicine rarely helps people and therapy has been more effective in the long term. From my own personal experience, a psychiatrist can work if you need medication, which is rarely the case. I would recommend therapy as someone who suffered from mental health issues. A psychiatrist can make things worse if you go to one immediately. For example, I was given a dose that posed the risk of triggering suicidal thoughts. Medicine changes your brain chemistry so if psychiatrists just give you medicine, which is often the case, you could be in danger! See a psychologist first and if it's not working then proceed to get medication.

    Yes. I'm a third year psych student and for my major so far I've been required to take basic Statistics, behavioral statistics, and research methods which of course has Statistics. It definitely isn't easy and is a whole OTHER realm of math and I've had a single problem take 1.5 pages of paper, but it's doable and totally worth it when you get to where you wanted

  • @tandago7281

    There is no such thing as "bad at math". Maybe you have low grades, for now. Yes, you'll need math - mostly, you'll need statistics, which you will have to study hard, but from scratch. I wouldn't say that high school grades in math mean you won't be good at that! You may become good at math if you understand the ins and outs of the problem you are solving, and it becomes meaningful to you. It might be that once you start learning how statistics helps us be awesome at measuring human behaviour, you'll become fascinated with it and won't get enough of it! What you need is a willingness and determination to put in the time.

I can't decide whether I will study psychology or not. I would like you to know that, not being boastful, I am good in math. Average in science and english. Please, help me decide.

    I need you to introspect what that fear is all about. What is its root cause and where is it coming from? It's likely that it's the pressure of marks and expectations. Dont think in that way, have a deep quest for knowledge, and do what you feel is right for yourself

    Psychology might be "probable", but its probably is low compared to classical physics, chemistry, and, other examples, such astronomy and geology because human beings are not things (brains in this case) and are unique to each and every individual.
