Psychedelic Art Installations with Justin Lowe and Jonah Freeman

Ойын-сауық

Justin Lowe and Jonah Freeman create immersive environmental installations that play on ideas of drug culture, psychedelia, architecture, and film. Beginning with their first official collaborative piece, Hello Meth Lab in the Sun, the artists have created a web of reoccurring narratives that have sprawled into several connected works, most notably Black Acid Co-Op and Bright White Underground.

They are not. they are most likely commissioned, like you said. installation art is hard to sell because it's (most) often tied to the place it was made, and interacts with that specific place. art does not always have to be sold :) (thank god!)

It's art people. It's about immersing yourself in different worlds, different cultures and appreciating the creativity of the artists. Just because you cannot comprehend its meaning doesn't mean it's stupid or useless. This is cool as fuck.

beautiful. You've taken my favourite aspects from my childhoods gaming concepts and made them a real experience. You should add actors to live in your installations, it would perfect your piece

Before you call it pointless, consider larger philosophical questions like what is the point of any creative process that exists outside of pure function. I'm not saying that you have to like the work but calling it lame, dumb, or pointless is an incredibly simplistic response to art...if you think its bad, at least attempt to articulate why. That said, I love what these guys are doing...especially the B&W photos of the staged psychedelic group therapy session. Good stuff Vice.

Pretty interesting. It's cool to see this getting recognized as art. Great movies like Evil Dead and Fear and Loathing can relate to this. Atmosphere is all about "set and setting". The room at 6:29 is pretty trippy/psychotic. I would not want to trip there.

I said LIKE, as in an example. The scene were Hunter wakes up from under the american flag with a tail and looks around in the suite is to me the scene that relates most to this video and the installations in it.

I understand the purpose of this, it's just that I'm not a big fan of this sort of psuedo mysterious psychedelic style. it really glamorizes the potential or actual lives of the subjects so that people viewing it think that their lives are a lot more than what they actually are.

I enjoy these scenarios immensely, yet I must say, These theatric creations are stimulating and inspiring as well as disturbing, only to those who havent lived the counter culture out of due necessity for the survival of the highly evolved mind. I have nothing negative to say. Still these presentations and the trips endured by those who were able to "experience" this art differs greatly from the cats who have endured heavy acid trips in dark rural places with the full intent of promoting human evolution. this shit is funky, beautiful, and groovy, yet I have spent my life in the acid trenches being a light to lost souls who actually are tweaking, drinking, extremely poor etc. california has done well in sensationalizing the real scene, but I must say this is only a way to express theatrically, the lessons of primal psychedelic survivors to financially advantageous onlookers.....none of you will ever know what it is like to actually be there in a shitty rural poverty stricken home, being the cat that actually makes higher thought make sense to high primates searching for hope....
