Oppan Gangnam Style was never a "joke" song! This was a cleverly disguised satire/parody of the new wealthy citizens in the Gangnam neighborhood. The fact Psy thinks himself as an Oppan "boyfriend lives" Gangnam Style (life) and desires the Gangnam woman of his dreams (Hyuna) shows this so clearly! @@nataliacoggins6769 Woukd you recommend Gangnam Style as an introduction to Kpop, to someone who has no idea what Kpop is, and therefore has no frame of reference to appreciate the satire or parody; therefore taking it at face value? Or would you recommend something from BTS, or one of the many other relevant artists who can show that Kpop is more than either fan service (as the Astro song, the only other Kpop song this guy has watched, was), or this kind of song? Nothing I said indicates I think BTS is a joke, either.

Yes, only because this Psy song in 2012 became an international phenomenon!!!!! Psy, was part of the late first Kpop generation or lead the wave of the second generation (BTS/IU) depending on how you categorized his musical collection. Osy with OGS literally opened the international door fir Kpop, as he hit 1 MILLION views in a few weeks and to date had over 4 BILLION views. To "celebrate" Psy OGS 10 year anniversary, Psy collaborated with Suga of BTS for his second phenom song That That!!!! It's fabulous!!!! Check our BTS Boy in Luv 2013 dance practice video and you can easily see the talent and potential these 7 boys had!!!! Explosive!!!!! Check out their award show stage performance of We are Bulletproof!!!! OMG, it's electrifying! The Japan live solo performances of Jimin's Serendipity, JK's Euphoria and Jin's Epiphany!!!!! Then the Suga, under his alter ego Agust D, Daechwita, Haeguem, and Amygdala; with Amygdala being the true story of his almost career ending before it started accident and his struggles with anxiety, OCD, and family problems that he overcame! There are a few older, first generation artists that are good. I'll look for the links, so that you can access them easily. One in particular is by a female artist who sang a "coming of age" ceremony song (2001). Koreans celebrate the time when children 19 to 20 and become legal adults. Girls are given flowers, perfume, among other gifts to celebrate this special time. This song became "tradition" for female Kpop artists to sing at their coming of age. However, JK with the collaboration of Jimin, did a OMG beautiful "dance cover" of this song in 2016, when JK was coming of age!!!! I'll find them both and post them. Psy's OGS was the 2012 international phenom song that paved the way for second generation Kpop artists, like BTS, IU, etc. In 2022, Psy did a collaboration - That That - featuring Suga of BTS (wrote, produced, cameo). Fabulous, fun video! You can't really go wrong with any BTS, but I would say to see their talent and growth, start either earlier works. I recommend the 2013 dance practice video of Boy in Luv!!!! The talent, promise and charisma is all there! I would also recommend their live performance of We are Bulletproof. Another early solid performance that showcases their talent. Watch their 2018 MAMA live award show performance! This could never be done on any American award show. As for solos, while performing as BTS, the Japan live performances of Jimin Serendipity, JK's Euphoria, Jin's Epiphany, and HOPE'S Just Dance - all absolutely beautiful. For urban rap, try Suga's trilogy, under his alter ego Agust D, Daechwita, Haegeum and Amygdala. Amygdala is the heartbreaking true life of Suga! He raps about his almost career ending (before it began) accident and the anxiety, OCD and family issues that plagued his emotional sense of well-being. Heartbreaking trilogy. There is one first Generation artist, that BTS bought back. Although other female artists did dance covers of her "coming of age ceremony", JK and Jimin outshines everyone and now othere do dance covers of the JK/Jimin version! Beautiful to listen to the original and then see the JK/Jimin version!

Here's a collection of Adult Ceremony, a song by a first generation Kpop artist! Coming of age in South Korea, (girls get gifts like flowers/perfume) a, represents the time when one turns from 19 to 20 and officially become adults. Many female Kpop artists performed "dance covers" for their coming of age. However, in 2016 when JK was 19, turning 20, he asked Jimin to do a dance cover of this song with him!!!! Needless to say, the JK/Jimin version exploded and now even male Kpop artists do the JK/Jimin version. This took over tictok and youtube!!!!
