    When I play Castlevania, I always imagine Dracula sitting in his room watching you tear through his minions on security monitors thinking the next boss is the one that's going to get you.

    ...except that it would most likely be a series of crystalline orbs that project the images onto special mirrors via arcane, occult, and Satanic magic, Internet Tough Guy. I mean, seriously, why would Dracula invent the television like four or five centuries ahead of the rest of the world? He would be bored looking at static, snow, or a black screen all day long. I mean, who would make programs for his televisions in medieval times, anyway? They already labeled him, and rightly so, as an agent of Lucifer. Also, I don't think that you need pecs and two arms on your arm...have you been swimming around the nuclear power plant again?

    This gameplay blew my mind! How did I never hear of a remake of the original Castlevania for the PSone? It looks awesome and the music is just as badass as the NES original!

  • @paxhumana2015

    @paxhumana2015

    Well, as far as I know, RicardoThePlayer, there was a version of Castlevania for the Japanese MSX, which is a somewhat niche video game console, and that version of the game is the one that is also on this video, and not the NES/FDS versions of the game. However, like Metal Gear for the FDS/NES, the Japanese port of Castlevania, which, up until this game, was known as Akumajou Drakula, just like the FDS version of Castlevania, there are things that are different in this game than its NES/FDS counterparts. Unlike Metal Gear, though, the differences are far more vast for the different Castlevania ports for each system. Now Contra for the MSX, on the other hand, that version of the game should have added more bosses, and then shipped to the NES/FDS that way instead.

    So in this video, there are two different soundtracks for Original and Arrange modes? And in T-0815's long play [083], a "Roland GS MIDI music" track is used? So the game in essence has three soundtracks, or did I mishear? Sorry to ask a bunch of sound questions, but the soundtrack (particularly the one heard in the [083] longplay) is so awesome in and of itself, I am considering getting the game through PSN for it.

    The only reason they remade this because the USA didn't get a release of this Castlevania until the Playstation made its debut.

    has an arcade feel to it and look. The whip cracking is anoying though imo and I hate how they changed the boss music. Call me retro or old fationed or whatever. It's still pretty cool even with new music and graphics. I would love to play this with a joystick.

    +florence flojo I know. Hell, even I'm not that good! I can beat the game, yes, but I've never made it all the way through without taking damage somewhere along the way. The area that seems to screw me up pretty consistently is the fourth set of stages, a.k.a. the Red Brick Cathedral (21:25-27:30). It seems like I can't avoid taking damage somewhere in that area, whether it be from a standard enemy or from Medusa (I've noticed that when the fight with her begins, it becomes clear that aside from her ability to petrify you, she also LOVES to try to sneak in cheap shots with her tail whenever she can).
