Up until very recently, I still felt like Guilty Gear was a "newer" franchise compared to the established series like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and the bevy of SNK fighters like Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters, and so on. I can still recall the issues of PSM I read, talking about how revolutionary the game was. Then I realized it's been 19 friggin' years since then. Wow.

Jonathan Zirkle you’re crazy if you believe that. Street fighter, Mortal Kombat, Virtua fighter (Tekken took it to another level) and Super smash bro’s are the most influential fighting games. Guilty gear just took what samurai shodown did and made the gameplay faster and more combo based that’s pretty much all. It’s still a great fighting game franchise though.

I defeated Justice with Sol accidentally after 100s of continues, i just got desperate and button mashed like crazy until i ended up finishing her off with dragon install then flame distortion. One of my notable victories in life, along with all my blisters lol...

Flame Distortion? I don't think Sol has that move in this game, you might be refering to either Tyrant Rave or his Insta Kill, All Guns Blazing. I only managed to defeated Justice after I remembered you can infinite the CPU by spamming Sol's running kick.

So this is where it all started in the Guilty Gear series.

in GGXX if you taunt, you can also see Faust's face, he has a glorious bald head with no face at all, like a mannequin, weird stuff as expected from Guilty Gear

I always liked what they shout in the beggining of each fight: "Heaven or Hell! Let's Rock!"

We need a Guilty Gear Collection, with the most up-to-date versions of each game (this one, Guilty Gear X, XX Accent Core Plus R and Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-). And a god damn Guilty Gear X BlazBlue...

This game is just the perfect amount of edge.

You mean as a franchise, or as GG1 the game? Because GG1 the game has aged EXTREMELY badly. No one plays that game any more, and has never been played competitively. It's an unbalanced, balls to the wall crazy shitfest. Compare with Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, which is still being played to this day, with new tech being discovered 20 years after its release.

@@Rhannmah GG1 being a shitshow is EXACTLY what makes it endearing as a game, it's as kusoge as you can get but it's still a lot of fun. I love Super Turbo, but, honestly, even though it's fun and has some historical value as the final revision of SF2, it's not as fun as GG and also has a lot of bullshit like random stun and pretty wonky hitboxes.

Shippuden composer worked on GG1. WOW.

Ah, the first Guilty Gear. Back when when Testament was confused for a woman, and Justice a man, albeit quite understandably, considering how they sounded. My first experience with this was renting a Japanese version of this with my brother. We didn't understand what was being said, but we found it fun. As Zato 1, I managed to get to Millia Rage...and promptly got stomped HARD. Good times.

Well, Testament is non binary now so now it's not that bad to confuse them for a woman.

Justice, the guy who you fight in 24:16, fits the description of the "locusts" we read about in Revelation chapter 9. They are demonic beings that have the face of a man, the hair of a woman, what looks like a crown, and a tail similar to that of a scorpion. They wear armor. The only exception is that they have wings and Justice doesn't.

This is awesome, given how early Guilty Gear had some religious references I am willing to believe this to be true. What's really cool is how Justice, despite her evil nature and demonic appearance, has a stage and theme that sound and look more heavenly than anything else. Like, her stage is just straight up called "Heaven" in the next games.

The first one had the dark atmosphere to it. By the time it got to Xrd, it just got silly and comical.

May's voice was near deafening back then, wasn't it? It doesn't help that the Shittier voice compression tools back then were shit, too, but then again, Metal Gear Solid...

this game is amazing and it was made on the PS1. Imagine if this game had been made on a dedicated arcade board like the CP System III

Back in the day (2002 I guess) I gave some James Bond game to my friend and he gave this Guilty Gear (I didn't know GG at that time). Best trade ever.

Neither of those two had a hand in development. The game was (and is) developed by Arc System Works, arguably the greatest fighting game developer ever.

press all the 4 buttons at once (triangle, circle, square and cross) when do that you go into IK mode then it depends on the character you have, but most are done with (down>forward>down>forward>HS(circle)).

I can't believe Guilty Gear is made in my birth year... I don't even know what month it is made. It's either before, on, or after my birth month.

Very beautiful i must say!

This game didn't hit Europe until 2000 and I remember that the gaming press of the day absolutely savaged it for being "outdated" due to its use of 2D visuals instead of the standard 3D that most games were using. Guilty Gear, it seems, had the last laugh - with the possible exception of the Tekken games and Soul Blade, none of the "3D" versions of fighting game franchises on the PSX have aged especially well at all.

For any charcter in this game, it is the punch+kick buttons at the same time. A red screen should appear, and the you do down>corner in the direction you are facing>the direction you are facing, and then press an attack button. However, the enemy can avoid it, and so can you by moving in the reverse direction plus an attack button.

big fan of GG, X on the dreamcast is truely amazing. In the 32 bit era the saturn was way better on 2d than psx.. saturn kicked fucking ass. Even today looking at SFalpha3 + 4mb card .. damn.. even better than dreamcast version
