PSX Longplay [046] Ridge Racer

Ойындар

www.longplays.org
Played by: deskawa
As the walkthrough is long for a game with just a circuit, maybe you'll want to skip some parts of it. If you don't care much about the game or its music I would recommend you to see at least the final duel against the Black Lamborgini, which is the Darth Vader of the racing games. This pimp stops at the middle of the race so you have an advantage, so the trick here is to do a decent first lap and after that, block the path as much as you can.
00:36 Original Circuit Slow Mode (Feeling over)
04:10 Original Circuit (Rare hero)
09:10 Extended Circuit (Rotterdam Nation)
15:00 Extended Circuit Duel Mode (Speedster)
22:30 Reverse Circuit Slow mode (Ridge Racer)
25:32 Extended Reverse Circuit Duel Mode (Rhythm Shift)
As you see, I didn't record Reverse circuit with normal speed and Extended Reverse Circuit with normal speed. This is because they don't add any unique content and all the music tracks were already covered. -

This was the first game i bought when I got a psx, and was also my first console I ever owned. It was such a proud moment. I used money from my first job I ever had. I still remember opening it, that brand new smell. This game was just so good. The music, graphics and the technique of drifting your car and getting it just right so you would get a little turbo boost as you came out of the corner. Man, I played this game so much. Beating the black car was rock hard, but the feeling of accoplishment when I finally did it. Once id completed it, I used to compete with my mate to do fastest laps on the first track. Shortly after I moved onto Wipeout and thats a whole another story. Wonderful Memories.

Ridge Racer is a stone cold classic, I really enjoyed playing it again all these years later for a new series I'm working on. Graphically it may not have aged well but the gameplay is still amazing and the soundtrack is fantastic despite being a little limited.

The game brings a tear to my eye, these were the days when everything was so fresh and exciting (unlike now...). When arcade excellence became home and standard norm, it was filled zeal & enthusiasm and I still feel it when watching this classic (only Ridge Racer V provides the same feeling!!). Which leads me to now?!! What the hell happened?!! We have it all, the HD graphics and music but something is sorely missing and RR1 shows it, I don't know what it is....Weren't things supposed to get better in time, not worse?!!!.........

Your gonna get bombarded by a bunch of young kids who dont appreciate old school games and are gonna try their best to silence you and dismiss you by saying it's all simply nostalgia that makes you feel that way. Fuck those little kids. They'll understand one day. Or maybe not. They were all born in a time where games hold your hand and day one patches and updates are the norm. Where a game is good bc "muh graphics". Even when the gameplay is complete ass lmfao. I play modern day games. All the time. But these classics, just cant be touched. Except mine wasnt ridge racer on the ps1. Mine was ridge racer on n64. Fucking love that game lol.

1995 was a magical era, snes sega gen was still going strong, but the next gens were just appearing, it seemed like the big players were going to be the sega saturn and the nintendo 64 with some wierd ones on the side like the 3do and jaguar and then from left field sony dropped this i was blown away at 8 years old like DAD thats the one- i'm 31 now and VR has come kinda close to reproducing the wow factor but not 100%

  • @yocbjone

i remember playing this game and remembering back to donkey kong on snes as the best graphics we had seen, and then the playstation came with graphics like this, it was so amazing! new console, and a hole new world of amazing graphics and games. enormous anticipation about the future and what it could hold, cus this was literately more than twice as good graphics as the one we had seen before. the leap from snes to ps1 was the biggest leap in graphics we have ever experienced, imo. (basically from 2d to 3d) if we could ever have something like this again, would be awesome! another thing, i remember looking at the dinosaur in the demo disc that came with the ps1, it was around the time when jurassic park showed in the movies, and i was thinking, "i'm sure we will have graphics like this on consoles in 10 years", oh my i was wrong, it's now 20 years later, and.. yeah..

Hail the classic of namco! ^^ its one of the best racing games back in the 90s . =3 and the other sequels are really awesome too like Ridge racer type 4, Rage racer and Ridge racer revolution . but the ps2 sequels arent that great like the psx games because it loses the charm and awesomeness of ridge racer . =/ I think that namco should make the series again simple ,arcade-like , with epic locations and cool music to get stuned for years like the psx games .

Still play it to this day. I also really enjoyed the 3ds version personally and i think I'd have alot of fun with this one. Those old school ridge racer drifting mechanics where you just slide up on a turn and kick the whole damn car sideways all the way around it lmao I absolutely love it. They dont make good arcade racers like this anymore. Now everyone wants to do simulators. Which I do play on occasion. But they are stupid boring compared to these old school arcade racers lol

Ridge Racer Type 4 was the first game that i played in this series. So coming here from that game ,the control is easy to get used to , i manage to beat each races with just few attempts. Difficulty curve isnt that high like Daytona USA ,drifts can be executed much easily and i was very satisfied being able to conquer the game. The four races in Arcade Mode are actually easy when you know the layout of the track and get used to the controls. The true challenge starts at Extra Mode ,i cant beat anything from Mid-Level onwards. Sure, the graphics didnt hold up well but who cares as long as the game is fun and playable. Wish Namco would give us a new Ridge Racer already

@Amaranthus616 ill try to explain my point better. arcade racers can be compared to each other, as they are similar and have their differences. but other styles of drviing games can also be compared as they too may have some similarities but many differences. they do borrow some elements anything can really be compared, simulation driving is still driving, as is arcade, just the comparison is how each style does it

@msimplay well its still not that strange, the guy just likes more realistic things, as you said, many base whats good and whats not based on realism levels its not unusual for someone to play a game, and decide they dont like it as much because the other game they played was more suited to them. in that guys case, more realism is more suited to him. hence, he didnt like ridge racer as much as gran tourismo and made that comment based on how he felt about it but i agree, more arcady the better

@msimplay i dont like gran tourismo, im not one for simulators. the closest thing to simulation i play is test drive. and that still feels arcady but still, comparing isnt just seeing whats the same, its seeing what one has and what one doesnt, usually to make choices. and arcade racers and simulators have things the others dont have, and sometimes do have, test drive unlimited feels like a cross between, even some simulators do when you can sometimes shunt other cars and get away with it

  • @Xegethra
