Psilocybin appears to be a 'swiss army knife' medication, useful for treating a wide variety of disorders, from addiction to anorexia, with most finding anxiety, depression and PTSD being greatly reduced. It's like an SSRI that actually works, but much safer

The good thing about shrooms is its non addictive, the best experience I've EVER had on ANY drug was shrooms, I've been so happy my face literally hurt from smiling so much for so many hours, but but once the trip wears off the last thing I'm thinking about is dropping another trip, you need time to recover, the closest I'd ever had trips together were a week apart but usually months or years, having said that it's been 6yrs since the last time but certainly would again given the right time and setting

After 15 years on Lithium I finally gave it up this year. Since then I've had 7 experiences with Psilocybin in a home setting. There was a great variation in my experiences with Psilocybin but all were positive experiences. Each dose of Psilocybin had an after glow effect that gave me a positive mood boost for 3-5 days. I had no negative experiences with Psilocybin and I will continue to use it for occasional Mood Maintenance. Thanks for your work and shared stories.

I'm on 800mg lithium only, I'm not finding lithium that good, what made you come off lithium and how is it going

@brmc6145 It was the side effects that finally got me off it. Don't get me wrong. Lithium was very decent as a mood stabilizer and greatly cut back my thoughts of suicide ideation. But on I once had to go to the hospital for a minor overdose of it that left me severely dehydrated. I would also get shaky hands occasionally and I always felt tired and zoned out on lithium. Making time to exercise on lithium just never happened and I eventually got up to being 35 pounds over weight. Also when you're on lithium you need to see a kidney doctor at least twice a year because over enough time your kidneys will begin to fail from long term lithium use. Now off it I'm happy I no longer have to worry about kidney damage. I'm walking up to 90 minutes a day after work and my mood is ok. I feel more irritable than when I was on lithium so that is one downside I have to live with. As mentioned above, the psilocybin trips once or twice a month give me anywhere from a 2 day to a 7 day mood boost. I hope that helps you.

This is sooo fascinating and has sold me on integrating psychedelics with bipolar treatment. Im interested in joining trials/research/treatment for myself. Thank you so much for this.

Medication was always supposed to be administered with talk therapy. Somehow, we've gotten so far away from that healing model. Psilocybin paired with therapy seems like an absolute must for healers and doctors right now. I hope that doesn't fade away as psychedelic therapies and dosing become more modern or break into the "mainstream."

I agree, some form of integrated therapy is a must as we start involving psychedelics. My fear is that we get stuck in traditional talk-therapy when we need progressive forms of working and understanding therapy. We need safe, structured yet inclusive forms of working (psychotherapy, physical/emotional work, movement, breath work, healing and indigenous wisdom). We also need conversation to deepen our understanding of "integration" so it evolves from a buzzword to its real potential.

I think people with a good support system already have a leg up in their treatment of their bipolar disorder so I hope people won't be prevented from participating in research trials for not having a support system, as people diagnosed as bipolar are already stigmatized in that way and excluded from research as well as many treatment facilities. But maybe I misunderstood the researcher. Thank you both for the work and the episode.

What I dont get is, why in the world would anyone what to loose there sence of reality, when people with mental illness struggle to be in reality. I mean , who wants to feel all that paranoia and see things and hear stuff thats not there. Its totally nuts, I think its not a good route to take, to heal somebody in the trials of their mania or phychosis attacks. I just dont get it and I wouldnt get on that LSD band wagon, ever.
