PSA: How to make prints stick on a new Creality glass bed. Fix adhesion on a new Ender 3 v2, 5, CR10

If you want to try these torture tests - www.thingiverse.com/thing:487...
Something that trips a lot of people up - me included - when you get a new creality printer or bed, is that initially things will not stick to it. This is a massive problem, and without fully understanding why, a lot of people end up either turning the bed over and using glue, tape, etc, or worse they bin the bed entirely and buy a magnetic or other kind of bed.
There's really no need at all. Stick. With. The. Bed.
Watch to the end to see me showing off what the creality bed is really capable of. My printer runs on stock springs, no bltouch (yet), so all this is do-able out of the box. No funny business or tricks.

this means it's putting 10% more out on the first layer as I understand it? Not sure if cura adjusts the line spacing for infill to compensate for it...have you tried doing a large square area to see if the extruder backs up and starts clicking or you get ripples? If it doesn't do either then you should be good to go! 👍

there is 2 spots you do this in Cura, quality and material. Also Cura does adjust the spacing. Lost in Tech, a very good adon to get is Settings guide in Cura.

I'm having trouble with the first layer so I'll try that. Im also having some issues with my print. After a few layers the PLA makes a little bump and once the nozzle go back there things turn to spaghetti. I've been wondering if slowing the dual fans might help. Btw I have a brand new Ender 3 Max with CRtouch installed and an updated firmware with more settings.

Thank you so much for this life saving tip... I got the Creality glass and replaced the original bed with it about a week ago, wiped it thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol (!!!) but unfortunately was straggling with non sticking printed parts since. Your advice worked like magic. Apparently the IPA couldn't really clean whatever came on the glass from manufacturing but the dishes soap and water did. So thanks for sharing man, I almost gave up and you made my day :)

Washing it in the sink with dish soap and rinsing thoroughly was the only way I got mine to work after lots of frustration. Now it works awesome, and the occasional cleaning renews the surface again. A few minutes extra of pre-heating won't hurt either if you are having issues with adhesion.

This solution was so simple I was mad that I didn't think of it. Nice wet rag and a preheat at 80C and ran a few test prints to cure the bed and it now sticks well. Appreciate the advice it saved me from tossing the thing. Also found running a little hotter on the first layer helped a lot, that and keeping the bed at 80C has helped in the initial adhesion.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm new to FDM printing (have some experience with resin printers) and was banging my head against the wall on my Ender 6. I tried cleaning the nozzle, replacing the nozzle, replacing the Bowden tube, checking the esteps and kept getting spaghetti prints. I really thought I had an under-extrusion problem, but it was a bed adhesion issue! Some Dawn dish soap and then raising the platform temp to 70 degrees made all the difference!

Hey Ryan, I have the same printer...same issue. So wash bed with soap and prime to 70 degrees with a test print, then for subsequent prints you can go down to 60? Or always print at 70?

  • @ryanbecker6584

    @ryanbecker6584

    2 жыл бұрын

@@mitchvik1711 I’ve been sticking to 70 for the whole print. In the creality slicer you can change the temp in advanced settings, or if you just want to use the simple settings you can change the temp manually right after you start the print using the printer UI. I’ve been printing duct / pipe adapters and they print beautifully and after cooling they come off without any effort. If you have more surface contact it may be more work to release the print.

Hours of trying to get it to stick and nothing worked. I tried cleaning with IPA and it didn't work. It only worked for me after I watched this video. I used liquid dish soap in addition to the water because it is supposed to cut grease on glassware - so it should work the same on a glass bed. Well I did it and the PLA now sticks no problem. This helped for the first couple prints and then stopped sticking again... **UPDATE** Turns out the glass bed that came with my ender 3 v2 had a few manufacturing issues. 1: the glass was warped in the middle 2: textured finish was all wrong. I have received a replacement glass bed from creality and now it sticks EXTREMELY well. (so well that even at 20 degrees my prints won't pop off. I have to stick the bed in the freezer for 5 mins to get my print to pop off) I hope this helps anyone who has the same problems as I had.

Both bed types have advantages, something I'm covering in an upcoming episode, so much so that I run multiple printers with multiple bed types, so if you don't get on with glass...it's not that big a deal. That being said...it is hands down the most convenient. When it works. 👍

i have start using Painters tape on my ender3 glass bed...And damn! this work amazing!!!! Super tight prints that stay nice and flat on the bed.sometimes with high prints I also use the tape to fix the print even better on the bed and so you prevent less vibration the end result is a flat and tight printed object.

YES!!!!! I discovered that myself. I was using glue stick with a little water but one day after doing maintenance and washing with dishwasher the bed I never had to use glue stick again. I discovered that no matter how much you wash your hand after 5 minutes your healthy skins oil are back. And micro dust is another one. Now I always cleaning with a super clean wet (be careful to not damage electronics) sponge before a print, does not matter if I just printed something or not. No more problems with any type bed sheet surface anymore.

I had that bed in my ender 3 and it never worked as intended, I cleaned with isopropyl alcohol, I manually level the bed, I installed a bl touch, I changed the springs, but it failed most of the time.. The object didn't stick to the bed or I had to lower the nozzle so much that almost scratched the bed, so at the end I gave up. I changed it for a magnetic PEI sheet and it worked like a charm, it also has the advantage of been really easy to remove the objects.. The only downside is if the bed is not flat, the sheet follows the shape, but nothing that some aluminum foil at the center and the bl touch automatic adjustment can't solve

I'm in the very same route as you were because I can't get adhesion unless I use glue stick. I have added yellow springs, lock nuts, jyers bltouch UBL and even 3 washers to compensate the plastic bracket that holds the bed wiring. I have washed the bed with dish soap and alcohol and no luck adhering not counting the many hours trying to get a perfect bed level down to the .001 mm. The only thing I have not tried is priming the glass bed to 70 degrees if that doesn't work I'm going to get a magnetic flexible bed when I run out of glue sticks since I bought a bulk pack from walmart that was on sale.

Been printing on Borosilicate glass for years no "special" coatings.. For PLA is REALLY simple as you covered. Clean it - I used rubbing alcohol and it gets very clean. Make sure bed is level!! Print first layer about 10-15C hotter than the rest of the layers. (Will vary depending on ambient temp in room) Have had very good luck with this.. Noticed printer works better when ambient temp is about 24-27C (75-80F)

100% Agree. Currently doing a master chief suit and have quite a few 5 day prints coming up and between every print I clean my Bed with IPA or Denatured alcohol and with a minor z Height adjustment I have 0 worry a print will come off the bed. If you are still having poor bed adhesion even after cleaning and you have leveled using a piece of paper I found the z height still to be to far away. For me spacing with paper had me at -2.61 but after a few test prints I landed on -2.77 so just using paper may not be enough ( or I just grabbed thicker paper some how). Just watched your TPU video and can't wait to try it out once the rest of the suit is finished, want to do some joint pieces in TPU.

Get a microfiber cloth, they are made to wash glass without leave any trail of dirt. Then get cold water on it cloth, since cold water is more clean the hot water from tap. Then heat your head to 65*c and then start clean the plate when its at the warmest. it will dry up superfast, and because it turns the water hot it removes anything.

Cheers! I had the "magnetic sticker" flex print bed which was fine, but then a warranty failure had me getting sent a whole replacement heat bed and flex surface, and I thought "what the heck" and ordered a glass plate for it. And had the exact same issue. I used IPA, and in the end I turned it over and used the glass side. But when I went to wash off some of the glue stick I ended up having to use, I washed both sides with warm soapy water, and just for the sake of completeness, tried the coated side again. They must ship it with some protective spray that resists IPA, because it's been good as gold since then. NOTE: I was using bulldog clips to hold the glass down, which as it turns out aren't a good fit, and after ripping off a silicon sock with those, I ended up getting the 7mm flat SS clips similar to yours, and now consider them to be essential kit for a glass surface, too. I’ve since been using the glass bed upside down on the pure glass side. For most parts I just clean with 70% rubbing alcohol before each print and the bottom finish is like a mirror. Let it cool to room temp before removal and the parts fall off. For tall parts with more height than surface area, I just apply some glue stick if necessary (90% don’t need it). The smooth glass finish on the bottom of the parts is just unreal!

Great video! Also, in my opinion, don't use alcohol (IPA) to clean up the bed all the time. It takes off the light yellow coating from the surface and it turns to a normal glass bed at the end. Just microfiber cloth and water is enough. That's why people complain about the first layer adhesion problems after some time using the creality's ultrabase. Also if you already ruined your bed, you can use sponge sandpapers with fine grit to get a better bed surface and increase the adhesion area of the print. Good luck!

Excellent content! A while back I purchased an E3 V2 with the Creality glass bed, and I've had little to no issues with adhesion. Such a great experience, I purchased the Creality glass bed for an E3 that is kicking around. Though the beds look identical, the one on the E3 is nothing but adhesion problems that no amount of cleaning will fix. Swapping the beds between the printers, the adhesion problems follow the separately purchased bed. I seriously suspect QC issues and judging by the number of folk who complain, and the number of folk who claim it's the greatest bed ever, it would not surprise me if there was a bimodal distribution of satisfaction with this product.

I have to agree with gnoman's statement "I seriously suspect QC issues and judging by the number of folk who complain, and the number of folk who claim it's the greatest bed ever, it would not surprise me if there was a bimodal distribution of satisfaction with this product." I am new to the 3D printing world but as I am sure most people do, I have climbed deep into this rabbit hole. My first printer was the Creality CR-10 v3. It came with the coated glass bed and I have had no problems getting anything to stick to it. A little temp tweaking was needed with PETG and PLA+ but nothing extreme. I just picked up an Ender-3 v2 to add to my new collection and I can not get anything to stick to the bed it came with no matter what I try or how much I have cleaned it. The E3 glass does not have the same texture of coating on it that the CR-10 glass came with. The E3 glass is much smoother and the CR-10 glass has a more coarse texture to it. Like 400-600 grit sandpaper. I ordered a new glass plate from the Creality Store on Amazon thinking I would get a similar textured glass bed like the CR-10 has but what I received feels the same as the original E3 glass and I cannot get anything to stick to it either.

I first thought it must be me not able to level it, but after I washed the glass in warm soapy water I had no issues and was able to print 15 - 20 small pieces (one at a time). Then it started to not stick again. I washed it again and prints were sticking again... What I then did was after washing once more I put a small amount of glue stick down and then used a little spray bottle with 50% IPA, 50% water and a drop of fairy to wipe the bed down spreading the glue evenly into a very thin layer. After ever 3rd/4th print I wipe with the solution. Haven't hat to wash it again in almost 6 months printing nearly every day.

Thank you for a very, really very important helpful video. I knew before that the ultrabase does not like fingerprints and other dirt (however, like any surface). After unpacking, I rubbed the surface with rubbing alcohol and made some prints. Not perfect adhesion of the first layer, but enough to print 4 parts (6 + 4 + 1.5 + 1.5 hours). I typed 55 degrees on the table. But the next part has already ceased to stick normally. although at first the layers seemed to stick, but with the next passes the nozzles next to them began to come off. I started watching KZread) I saw in one of the comments that medical alcohol seems to corrode this surface and it is necessary to dilute it at least 30-50%. Some use gasoline. I started thinking if I had time to spoil the surface. I saw your video. I just wiped it with a wet microfiber and raised the temperature of the table to 70 C. I don’t know what exactly helped, temperature or cleaning (it seems the surface was not dirty, but maybe microfiber cleans better mechanically), but the first layer has already adhered perfectly! The anycubic ones, which is the original brand that mae this kind of coating, work extremely well refreshing it from time to time with a mixture of cleaning vinegard + a good glue stick. Just a little glue in the mixture so is not noticeable. Then it sticks really strong and comes off when the bed is cold. Anyway normal cloath isn't the best option to cleaning it in the long run since the reason of stuff not sticking is the small pores are dirty, is more of regular day maintenance, a dishes cleaning sponge works better using the spong or the scrapping part depending on if you're doing mantainance or it needs a more intense cleaning. Also they are really dependant on having the exact distance from the bed right, depending on the layer height you're printing.

I personally use hot soapy water (dawn, used to remove oil and grease easily) and a sponge (not the scrubby sponges, the soft ones) and when it gets dusty , because it will, I use a clean 'dust pan brush' to sweep off debris and dust. Not touching it - at all - with your hand/fingers is key, or anything splashing on it (soda, tea, whatever) Ive tried a variety of things, but this and 're tram/level it' are the keys. the increased flow is... useful if you just have to (but beware the elephants foot) Big prints are another story... still have some warping with them. Too much heat difference from the part/hotend/bed to ambient air - might just have to enclose it.

The online printing discord lot I am in always states I must clean the glass with IPA. So I do and I now use glue stick on the glass when doing PETG as it has already taken out of the smooth side some tiny lengths of the glass when model was taken of even when it was cooled. So I taken to using glue stick even with PLA now using the other textured side which is not damaged. Every once in a while I wash the glass i hot soapy water to get the built up glue off then rinse it off and let air dry. I was thinking of buying a new bed in the form of the flexible metal PEI version. But that is very pricey in the UK. I have a Tronxy X5SA printer which I can't use as I had tons of leveling issues with as having 13 inch square ed area and 6 bed screws means it is a pain to level, and the Auto leveling system just does not level the 1st print layer even after doing 40 auto leveling runs, the Blue magnetic sensor they done is useless it seems to only detect the metal under the bed no amount of adjustments sole this? Tronxy have released a new lack sensor which people said does work with all surfaces now glass, metal, PEI, in fact everything.

Should we do it only once or every tie we clean the bed? Secondly, is it sufficient to clean the bed with cold water and microfiber between each print? The behavior I notice is that the first print after big cleaning (take out the bed and clean with water and dish soap) works nice, and each print have less and less adhesion. I was using a mix of 50% water 50% white vinegar but I guess like IPA it's worst than just water

No the idea of printing something on the bed is really just an initial priming. You should not have to clean it often either if you don't touch it. But I did notice with the glass bed that the cleaner and the hoter, the more the chances. Someone else talked about increasing the flow to 110% and I was experimenting with that it helps too. So I guess with those 4 things (70c first layer, clean surface, 110% flow, and fixative adhesive) or a combination of two or three or those then filament should stay down.

don't use glue stick, try sugar or syrup and water mixture. I found the glue stick drys on a heated glass bed and looses it's stickyness. the sugar gives a shine to the bottom print but I dont like that so wash it in water afterwards.

I have been struggling with this so much! I have 3 ender 3 max, all with this bed, all work amazing, bought a cr-10 smart, and it came with the same style bed, but so damn slippery! Nothing sticks, and I have done the warm soap and water. Gonna try again I guess. Thanks for the info.

It's a larger glass so make sure it doesn't dip in the middle I guess, can't think of any other differences so it should really work!

@@LostInTech3D actually, the cr-10 smart ships with a 300x300, same as the e3 max. Can almost interchange the beds except the maxes are about 6mm larger on the y axis. I have a spare bed so I may try rigging something up, and i am strongly considering a light sanding at 3000 grit to rough it up just a touch.

Sorry yes I was thinking of the standard ender glass. If you do use an abrasive on it, please let me know what happens, because it's something I have wondered about!

@@LostInTech3D okay, so probably a little ahead of myself, but I gave it a sanding at 600 grit, not too hard, but definitely enough to rough the entire surface. After that I cleaned it well with warm water and dried it. My immediate observation is that it worked fantastically, though I may encounter problems on release, so I will pop back after this print finishes and let you know, but so far it is perfect.

Thank you Expert! I have the very same glass bed and he same print phenomena occurred! I resorted to glue sticks and TaDaaa! Worked fine! After cleaning the glue stick off, a brilliant and another simple vid by Older Guy With An Impressive Beard Channel, the sticky white just fell off! With hot water and fairy liquid! (Other bubbles are available*) This advice Mr Expert, Sir, means I am already ready to print au natural! Brilliant! Ta very muchly!
