As you can see, it's so hard for dive bombers back then to deliver the hit, constantly dodging bullets. Panic attack surrounding your head. If this is a real life you already dead. May the pilot heroes in WW2 rest in peace. True respect, What a horror.

"As you can see.."??? 🧐 This is so arcadic, that it does not even show anything about reality. You would have dropped bombs much earlier/higher (not hitting with every try) and the AA guns are limited in firing directly above the ship! So, yes it was a kind of hell there, but this is just an action focused not very detailed console game!

This is an EXTREME exageration of what japanese AA really was like at midway. IRL it was laughable at best, nonexistant at worst.

You can get shot, you can crash, you can fly into the water but you ain’t gonna die. That’s damn realistic.

This was one of the most high tech planes in WW2. It was able to take a lot of direct fire from 20mm cannons aircraft guns.. 28 - 76mm ship AA guns... Shrug explosive cannon shots in the air... Crash into other airplanes without a scratch.... and fly through an exploding carriers no problem.. The most sturdy non breaking piece of hardware... They don't make them like that anymore.

A modern fighter aircraft wouldn't be able to survive from 20mm cannons perhaps, but they're now able to engage enemies beyond visual range, avoid radar detection, bomb enemy targets with precision guided bombs, detect aircraft from miles away, coordinate with other aircraft seamlessly for maximum situational awareness, have ejection seats that make getting out of the plane easier in emergencies, and so much more. They don't "make them like that anymore" because the standards of what constitutes a "good plane" has changed. It's nice to wax romantic about nostalgia from the past, but don't let it blind you from how much progress has been made from then to now, oftentimes for the better.

Imagine how crazy it must have been in real life. Diving through the clouds to find a carrier deck.

I like how the zeros coming super hot and all maneuvering and as soon as the “game” starts, they’re flying like dumb drones.

My grandfather was an SBD rear gunner… oh the stories that he told… Told the stories of a zero lined up on his sites from a rear attack… made eye contact with the Japanese pilot (things were that close) my grandpa just didn’t have it in him to make the shot and the Japanese pilot rocked his wings and flew off… people were a different breed back then.

Loved this: Stigler instead recalled the words of one of his commanding officers from JG 27, Gustav Rödel, during his time fighting in North Africa: "If I ever see or hear of you shooting at a man in a parachute, I will shoot you myself." Stigler later commented, "To me, it was just like they were in a parachute. I saw them and I couldn't shoot them down."

@@foxw875 I had a chance to meet Mr. Stiegler in person back in 2000 during a Warbirds game convention. After he told us his story, we all lined up to shake his hand. I was 4th in line. Mr. Stiegler used a cane in his right hand and for each of the 3 in front of me, I watched him painfully shift his weight so he could shake their hands with his right, then painfully shift back. When it was my turn, I held out my left hand confidently. I was rewarded with the biggest smile I'd ever seen. He reached out and gripped my left with his and shook it firmly. Everyone after me shook his left hand. I'll never forget that smile.

The thing that bugs me about this mission is the fact that it didn’t show how close America came to losing the battle of midway. Due to scheduling issues the torpedo bombers had little to no fighter cover whilst attacking the Japanese fleet, 36 of the torpedo bombers were shot down without scoring a hit. It’s due to the incredible bravery and skill and in large parts luck that midway turned in favour for the Americans. The decisions made by the Japanese admiral on the day aswell also played huge factors on why the Japanese carriers went down so quickly.

Hell the whole battle was a series of fortunate flukes, getting lost the Americans stumble onto the carriers piecemeal, and the Japanese repeatedly bombed one carrier thinking it was multiple, the whole thing was a mess. But on paper it ended up being a decisive one sided victory, but it was very close to not being.

You failed to mention Ultra, the fact that we could read their coded messages and knew most of their plan in advance. But yeah, a fair amount of luck had to do with it. But we sank four of their carriers, and one the next day, for the loss of one of our own, so not totally luck.

Yup. In some games, when you make a fatal mistake, you die, then will be send to the last check point and start all over again.

In about 7-8 years, there will be no more veterans of WW2, unless you count kids who fought in the resistance, etc. I bet there is no one alive already from the early year battles. We’ve already lost all of the Doolittle pilots/crew

There is only one of Churchills "The Few" left. A Wing Commander who flew Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain. Last of the Dunkirk survivors passed away last year. Still a few El Alamien survivors, but in their hundreds now.

It’s a damn shame that individuals with such an interesting personality and memory of the two greatest wars will no longer be with us soon, they gave up so much. They definitely deserve all the praise in the world.

Man even in ww2 planes are so high tech with that HUD enemy and ally indicator! So immersive!

graphics are very impressive, it flight realism is a no no. Imagine flightsim levels of control and bullet count.

@@worldcomicsreview354 they can, but they can only do a single role at a time, never both simultaneously...imagine trying to dogfight with bombs attached to your plane weighing you down..even multi-role fighters like F-16s don't carry both missiles and bombs all at the same time..

My late Grandfather worked the primitive landing radar on these type carriers. He lied about his age to enlist. Ended up as an engineer for Bell Labs in NC. New the team that invented the first germanium transistors.

Is there a reason all the warships around the carrier don't have turrets? Makes them look like modern ships with vertical missile launchers.

P51 Mustangs only had 9 yards of ammo and probably most fighter planes from that era. It would be gone in an instant if you didn't use 2-3 second bursts and only spraying when you're desperate or taking out a heavy target. That's where the saying "the whole 9 yards" comes from.

Wow! So many fighters and bombers in the air! My wish for so many years has come true. I’m buying this!

I really miss the great story based solo flight sims from the 90's like pacific strike I think it was , I know it had like 10 3.5 inch disks to install it, you were a pilot on the enterprise and went on its campaign through the war.

I refuse to ignore the friendly fire in this video. Guy landed more shots on friendly ships and planes than any Japanese Zero.

Meanwhile in Rise of Flight, overheat on takeoff, P-factor and rudder cause left wheel to fall off, engine failure at 400ft, crash in a field. 10/10 realistic

Graphics has really come a very long way. This is stunning and beautiful. The colours and tone takes you back to that time.

The U.S.losses for the entire Operation Ten-Go was 97 KIA, 122 wounded, 10 aircraft lost, 1 Carrier, Battleship, and Destroyer damaged. The Japanese... 4,137 KIA, 100 plus aircraft destroyed, 1 Battleship (Yamato), Light Cruiser, and 4 destroyers sunk, and 1 destroyer damaged.

@@guyintenn Because that "battle" was unnecessary and couldn't change anything for both side's, but Yamanto needed to "die" as a symbol (other name of Japan is Yamato) for political and propaganda reasons..., and life lost or consequences, who cares, the victory and "democracy" are the most important thing, no? Edit: And learn a bit of history, since this war was avoidable, because it was more of an upraising form oppressed country, than a full scaled conflict of equals.

@@rohenthar8449 The entire battle of Leyte and the Philippines was seen as completely unnecessary because they could cut them off from Okinawa and Iwo Jima. McArthur just had to land there though.

Maybe it's me being a bitter Navy person but the "hold that elevator" in the beginning makes me think that the game makers really wanted a cool way to write the story/game play, or the Navy at the time didn't give a fraction of a fuck about any regulation surrounding safety or elevators.

If you want realism go and join the Navy or the Air Force. It is a game. A very good one. I just don't get why so many people complains about the realism.

It's very sad to think that this actually happened one day! so many men lost their lives because some stupid men who sit in their chairs and send other people to die! and worse, it will happen again and it won't take long! I can assure you that the men who were in the battle that day weren't as excited as the movies and games show us, they were probably terrified knowing they were away from their families and going to their deaths! F for the true heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of others in all times of humanity

Anyone else confused his gunner was a hispanic? Just a quick google search reveals that there were mexican americans that served and even some were pilots but i can't find any reference of them being at the battle of Midway. It's just annoying that the wokeness/rewriting of history creeps into everything.

I believe the campaign also had black soldiers integrated with white soldiers. Blacks were segregated in the military minus Navy. I mean it was wrong but that's the way it was back then. But I wouldn't doubt the company that censors the swastika to show true history.

So realistic that when you run into another plane you just bounce off and see red for a second not to mention you can fly 10 feet from bombs going off with out destroying your plane.

Battlestations Midway and Pacific were like this but not nearly as graphical. I wish they’d come out with a new one like this. Ship, air, & submarine battles.

I’ve seen enough after 5 minutes of dogfights. Every single plane exploding without any differentiation is just so 90’s old school video games. Learn from Warthunder where planes damage is way more diversified and accurate. For this, I’ll pass on COD as not to be disappointed

Always the Victor writes the stories. No one is an angel. Let them show indiscriminate bombings of civilians and dropping nukes…. History should not be portrayed with heroes and villains. History should portray that there were no saints and everyone paid a price.

Are you an idiot. This was WW2. Nazis, the very definition of villains, had to be stopped at any price. ANY PRICE. Oh, and using those nukes actually saved millions of lives.
